En la mañana de ayer lunes más de 200 efectivos de las fuerzas militares y policías de Santiago de Cuba asaltaron 8 casas-sede de la Unión Patriótica de Cuba (UNPACU) con “extrema violencia”, informó la organización en un reciente comunicado.

En la nota se detalla cómo, el operativo se desarrolló sin aviso u orden de registro y con la “presencia de los altos mandos del Ministerio del Interior”. Las autoridades utilizaron amoladoras para romper las verjas de las viviendas, que llevaban “asediadas desde hacía noches”.
“El espectáculo, dantesco, niños pequeños, ancianos, y numerosas personas presenciando cómo iban golpeando a los activistas y sacándolos para llevarlos detenidos”, detalló UNPACU.

El líder opositor José Daniel Ferrer García, denunció que la policía lo trasladó esposado en la espalda y que los efectivos entraron a la sede de la organización “con violencia rompiendo la puerta primero con instrumentos y luego con patadas”.

“Me sacaron a golpes de mi casa, me llevaron para la unidad conocida como Micro 9 y en el camino recibí golpes”, cuenta Ferrer. Al llegar a la estación policial y “por gritar consignas” asegura que dos individuos muy corpulentos vestidos con el uniforme de Tropas Especiales golpearon su cabeza “dos veces contra un muro” refirio.

Entre los detenidos se encuentran: José Daniel Ferrer Garcia, coordinador general de la organización opositora; Nelva Ismarais Ortega, su esposa quien está embarazada y su abuela. Los tres se encuentran, en estos momentos, liberados.

Fernando Gonzalez Vaillant, Ernesto Oliva Torres, Carlos Torres Romero y otras dos personas que se encontraban en la sede -recibiendo cobijo por su situación de indigencia- en el momento del allanamiento, también resultaron arrestados. De estos, aún, la UNPACU no ha recibido información de su estado. Los cubanos fueron golpeados y esposados, y los inmuebles sufrieron una serie de daños. José Daniel Ferrer, por su parte, recibió un puñetazo en el estómago y luego, en el camino hacia la Unidad Policial Micro-9 fue abatido en la cabeza.

La violenta acción contra los opositores del régimen comenzó alrededor de las 6 a.m. Sin embargo, vecinos del área afirmaron haber visto, anteriormente, drones utilizados para “extremar la vigilancia de todo el barrio y así poder controlar los movimientos de los activistas”.

“Rompieron los techos buscando en los falsos techos cualquier material, así como rompieron luces y bombillas de las viviendas, y se llevaron todo lo que encontraron a su paso”, denunció el grupo.

Las autoridades del gobierno de la Isla tomaron posesión de materiales pertenecientes a las personas que habitualmente trabajan en las sedes: ordenadores, impresoras, teléfonos, cables, el router WiFi de la operadora ETECSA, bolsos, medicamentos, camisetas, documentos, discos duros, entre otros objetos.

Una vez arribado a la unidad policial, el Primer Teniente Quiñones Zapata indicó que el arresto había sido consecuencia del activismo desarrollado en base a la campaña por la votación al No en el próximo referéndum constitucional.

“También le amenazaron con más acciones como ésta si seguían fomentando el voto por el NO”, declaró el comunicado.

Entre los documentos confiscados está una lista de los “observadores de las elecciones” que la organización tenía previsto desplegar con el objetivo de vigilar las elecciones y denunciar cualquier irregularidad.

Este suceso, lamentablemente, no fue un incidente aislado. El fotógrafo y opositor cubano Claudio Fuentes, fue detenido el pasado viernes alrededor de las 6:30 p.m. Fuentes calificó el suceso como un “secuestro”.

El activista del Foro por los Derechos y Libertades (ForoDyL) había sido trasladado a la unidad policial de Zapata y C, en la localidad del Vedado, en la Habana por provocar un supuesto, “desorden público”.

Respecto a este hecho, escribiera recientemente Daniel Ferrer en Twitter: “Tiranía incrementa represión contra promotores del NO a la Constitución. Prisión, allanamientos y despojo, detenciones y golpes, amenazas y acoso, son los métodos más utilizados. Diariamente miembros de UNPACU resultan víctimas de estas cobardes acciones”

Más de 8 millones de cubanos están llamados a votar el próximo 24 de febrero para ratificar o no el texto de la reforma constitucional. El borrador final de la nueva Carta Magna tiene 229 artículos, 11 títulos, dos disposiciones especiales, 13 transitorias y dos finales. Garantiza, además, que el Partido Comunista es el único legal en Cuba y está por encima del Estado.

When he arrived at the police station and “by shouting slogans,” he said that two very large individuals dressed in the uniform of Special Troops hit his head “twice against a wall,” he said.

The authorities of the Island government took possession of materials belonging to the people who usually work at the headquarters: computers, printers, telephones, cables, the WiFi router of the ETECSA operator, bags, medicines, T-shirts, documents, hard drives, other objects.

Once arrived at the police unit, First Lieutenant Quiñones Zapata indicated that the arrest had been a consequence of the activism developed based on the campaign for the No vote in the next constitutional referendum.

“They also threatened him with more actions like this if they continued to encourage the NO vote,” the statement said.

Among the confiscated documents is a list of the “election observers” that the organization planned to deploy in order to monitor the elections and denounce any irregularities.

This event, unfortunately, was not an isolated incident. The photographer and Cuban opponent Claudio Fuentes was arrested last Friday around 6:30 p.m. Sources described the event as a “kidnapping.”

The activist of the Forum for Rights and Freedoms (ForoDyL) had been transferred to the police unit of Zapata and C, in the town of Vedado, in Havana for causing an alleged, “public disorder”.
