Acclaimed singer, actress, and songwriter Flor D ’Loto are recognized for her wonderful voice, which allows her to offer her audience unmatched interpretations of beautiful melodies, which in her voice take on different nuances. El 14 de Abril del 2013 se le otorgó por segunda vez, por su aportación a las Artes y a la Música con el galardón “Facundo Rivero”, reconocido músico y compositor cubano. El 22 de Junio del 2013 recibió la Llave de la ciudad de Miami otorgada por la alcaldía de Miami.

En Diciembre 4, 2013 en la sala de Mujeres Ilustres del Capitolio de San Juan, Puerto Rico se le entrego la Resolución del Senado de Puerto Rico por su trayectoria artística.

THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION RESPONDS TO THE GOVERNMENTAL MINREX OF CUBA

The Joe Biden administration reaffirmed on Wednesday its support for democracy and human rights in Cuba as a pillar of the policy conceived by the United States to empower the Cuban people in the search for their own future.

Washington’s statements come two days after the bitter questions launched by the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX) against the United States’ annual report on human rights in 2020, and mark a clear point of friction in bilateral relations.

“Support for democracy and human rights in Cuba continues to be the pillar of our policy to empower the Cuban people in determining their own future,” a senior State Department official told CiberCuba.

The official ratified the valuations expressed about Cuba in the report presented last week by the Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, and pointed out that “the authoritarian government” of Havana persists in repressing “human rights and fundamental freedoms, as well as all dissent”.

He also regretted that the Cuban government represses independent civil society through arbitrary short-term detentions and the organization of mobs to counter peaceful activism.

SITUATION OF RELATIONS BETWEEN US AND CUBA

The US support for activists and independent sectors within Cuba occurs at a tense crossroads in the national scene, aggravated by the unstoppable spread of the pandemic, defiant demonstrations against police repression in the Havana neighborhood of San Isidro, and a wave of arrests in opposition leaders and journalists.

Meanwhile, in Santiago de Cuba, at least a score of activists, led by the leader of the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU), José Daniel Ferrer, have mobilized international attention with a hunger strike to protest against the police repression in the Island.

The US report pointed out that Cuba has taken advantage of the restrictions imposed during the pandemic to increase repression against the opposition and the independent press in the country.

In recent days the Cuban administration called the head of the US Embassy in Havana to protest against the statements against Cuba by the United States at the UN.

The call for a consultation with Zúñiga-Brown was the first public call to MINREX by a US diplomat since Biden’s inauguration, at a time when Washington says it is engaged in an in-depth review of policy towards Cuba but shows no signs of an immediate change of the sanctions imposed in the administration of Donald Trump.

When the first 80 days of Biden in the White House are to be fulfilled, none of the measures that the president announced as a priority with respect to Cuba during his electoral campaign have had a resolution.

OPERATIONS OF THE US EMBASSY IN HAVANA

The US embassy in Havana remains limited in its consular operations, unable to process family claims, while remittances are frozen and commercial flights from the United States to airports in the interior of the island are prohibited.

The White House has made it clear that Cuba is not at the forefront of foreign policy priorities. In the more than 70 virtual exchanges, contacts, and telephone calls that Blinken has had with foreign ministers and political leaders of neighboring countries and allies, and representatives of regional blocs, Bruno Rodríguez-Parrilla, his counterpart 90 miles from the United States, has not appeared.

A symbolic sign of the eventual state of paralysis in bilateral relations is the situation of the Cuban ambassador to the United States, Lianys Torres Rivera, who arrived in Washington at the beginning of January to replace José Ramón Cabañas in office. Torres has yet to present her credentials to the Biden administration.

La administración de Joe Biden reafirmó este miércoles su apoyo a la democracia y los derechos humanos en Cuba como pilar de la política concebida por Estados Unidos para empoderar al pueblo cubano en la búsqueda de su propio futuro.

Las declaraciones de Washington se producen dos días después de los agrios cuestionamientos lanzados por el Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores de Cuba (MINREX) contra el informe anual de Estados Unidos sobre derechos humanos en 2020, y marcan un claro punto de fricción en las relaciones bilaterales.

“El apoyo a la democracia y a los derechos humanos en Cuba sigue siendo el pilar de nuestra política para empoderar al pueblo cubano en la determinación de su propio futuro”, dijo a CiberCuba un alto funcionario del Departamento de Estado.

El funcionario ratificó las valoraciones expresadas sobre Cuba en el informe presentado la pasada semana por el Secretario de Estado, Antony Blinken, y señaló que “el gobierno autoritario” de La Habana persiste en reprimir “los derechos humanos y las libertades fundamentales, así como toda disidencia”.

También lamentó que el gobierno cubano reprima la sociedad civil independiente mediante detenciones arbitrarias de corta duración y la organización de turbas para contrarrestar el activismo pacífico.

SITUACION DE LAS RELACIONES ENTRE EEUU Y CUBA

El espaldarazo estadounidense a los activistas y sectores independientes dentro de Cuba ocurre en una encrucijada tensa en el panorama nacional, agravado por la imparable propagación de la pandemia, manifestaciones desafiantes contra la represión policial en el barrio habanero de San Isidro y una oleada de detenciones a líderes opositores y periodistas.

Mientras, en Santiago de Cuba, al menos una veintena de activistas, liderados por el líder de la Unión Patriótica de Cuba (UNPACU), José Daniel Ferrer, han movilizado la atención internacional con una huelga de hambre para protestar contra la represión policial en la isla.

El reporte estadounidense apuntó que Cuba ha aprovechado las restricciones impuestas durante la pandemia para aumentar la represión contra la oposición y la prensa independiente en el país.

En dias pasados la administracion cubana llamó al jefe de la Embajada de EEUU en la Habana para protestar por las declaraciones contra Cuba de Estados Unidos en la ONU.

La llamada a consulta a Zúñiga-Brown fue la primera convocatoria pública al MINREX de un diplomático estadounidense desde la toma de posesión de Biden, en momentos en que Washington dice estar enfrascado en una revisión profunda de la política hacia Cuba, pero no da señales de un cambio inmediato de las sanciones impuestas en la administración de Donald Trump.

Cuando van a cumplirse los primeros 80 días de Biden en la Casa Blanca, ninguna de las medidas que el mandatario anunció como prioritarias respecto a Cuba durante su campaña electoral han tenido resolución.

OPERACIONES DE LA EMBAJADA DE EEUU EN LA HABANA

La embajada estadounidense en La Habana sigue limitada en sus operaciones consulares, sin poder procesar los casos de reclamación familiar, mientras que permanece congelado el envío de remesas y prohibidos los vuelos comerciales desde Estados Unidos a aeropuertos del interior de la isla.

La Casa Blanca ha hecho ostensible que Cuba no está en el foco de las prioridades en política exterior. En los más de 70 intercambios virtuales, contactos y llamadas telefónicas que Blinken ha sostenido con cancilleres y líderes políticos de países vecinos y aliados, y representantes de bloques regionales, no ha figurado Bruno Rodríguez-Parrilla, su homólogo a 90 millas del territorio estadounidense.

Una señal simbólica del eventual estado de paralización en las relaciones bilaterales es la situación de la embajadora cubana en Estados Unidos, Lianys Torres Rivera, quien llegó a Washington a principios de enero para sustituir en el cargo a José Ramón Cabañas. Torres no ha presentado aún sus cartas credenciales ante la administración Biden.

CARAVAN OF CUBANS IN MEXICO PARADE IN FAVOR OF DEMOCRACY ON THE ISLAND

Dozens of Cubans residing in the Mexican state of Nayarit gathered last weekend in a caravan to call for democracy in Cuba and remind the island’s government that the country belongs to all those who were born there, wherever they live, and think how they think.

Images sent to our newsroom summarize the enthusiasm with which a group of Cubans, accompanied by Mexicans and Latin Americans of other nationalities, demanded a democratic turn on the island in a caravan that they named “Together We Are More.”

The phrase Homeland and Life -becoming an authentic symbol of the urgency of a democratic change on the island- presided over the event, written the same on T-shirts, banners, or on the windshields of vehicles. The images show a caravan of several dozen cars that circulated in police custody.

“The island does not belong to the government, the island belongs to the Cubans, please respect free expression, democracy in Cuba,” said one of the Cubans who spoke through a loudspeaker.

In statements to CiberCuba, the organizers described their caravan as “very small” since there are “few” Cubans in the area, but even so they had the support of Venezuelans and Colombians and ensured a greater call in the future.

“The Cubans from Guadalajara want to come to make it bigger, so we are working on it. The next one will be better ”, they specified and promised that in the next there will also be more Cuban flags.

In recent months, especially after the barracks of a group of activists at the headquarters of the San Isidro Movement, there was evidence of a growing movement of support among Cubans residing in Latin America and Europe for the cause of freedom in Cuba, as well as a call generalized to make visible the human rights violations on the island.

CARAVANA DE CUBANOS EN MEXICO DESFILAN A FAVOR DE LA DEMOCRACIA EN LA ISLA

Decenas de cubanos residentes en el estado mexicano de Nayarit se reunieron el pasado fin semana en una caravana para pedir democracia en Cuba y recordar al gobierno de la isla que el país es de todos los que nacieron allí, vivan donde vivan y piensen como piensen.

Imágenes enviadas a nuestra redacción resumen el entusiasmo con que un grupo de cubanos, acompañados de mexicanos y latinoamericanos de otras nacionalidades, exigieron un giro democrático en la isla en una caravana que nombraron “Juntos Somos Más”.

La frase Patria y Vida -devenida en auténtico símbolo de la urgencia de un cambio democrático en la isla- presidió el evento, escrita lo mismo en camisetas, pancartas o en los parabrisas de los vehículos. Las imágenes muestran una caravana de varias decenas de autos que circuló bajo custodia policial.

“Si los de allá en la isla pudieran ver esto seguro se contagiarían”, escribió en Facebook el cantante cubano Pancho Céspedes, quien en los últimos días incluso participó de un ayuno en solidaridad con los huelguistas de la UNPACU.

“La gente va llegando al baile…como dice la canción aquella. Cuando la gente pierde el miedo…escucha la libertad”, sentenció el intérprete.

«La isla no es del gobierno, la isla es de los cubanos, por favor, que se respete la libre expresión, democracia en Cuba”, indicó a través de un altavoz uno de los cubanos que se manifestó.

En declaraciones a CiberCuba, los organizadores calificaron su caravana de “muy chica” pues son “pocos” cubanos en la zona, pero aun así contaron con el apoyo de venezolanos y colombianos y aseguraron mayor convocatoria en el futuro.

“Los cubanos de Guadalajara quieren venir para hacerla más grande, así que estamos trabajando en ello. La próxima quedará mejor”, precisaron, y prometieron que en la próxima también habrá más banderas cubanas.

En los últimos meses, especialmente después del acuartelamiento de un grupo de activistas en la sede del Movimiento San Isidro, se evidenció un creciente movimiento de apoyo entre cubanos residentes en América Latina y Europa a la causa de la libertad de Cuba, así como un llamado generalizado a visibilizar las violaciones de los derechos humanos en la isla.

Cubanos en Ecuador, Uruguay, México y otros países de América Latina o España, Reino Unido, Italia, Bélgica o incluso Finlandia -en el caso de Europa-han levantado su voz para reclamar con urgencia mayores libertades en la isla y un giro democrático que ponga fin a la represión que ejerce el gobierno contra cualquier cubano que se manifieste de forma contraria al régimen.
