“The Pain Hustlers” now is an upcoming American conspiracy drama from a screenplay by Wells Tower, based on a 2018 New York Times Magazine article, “The Pain Hustlers”, by Evan Hughes, and his subsequent novel The Hard Sell released in 2022.

JARDINES DE LA TROPICAL, LA HABANA Y SU LAMENTABLE ESTADO DE DECADENCIA. PHOTOS.

Los Jardines de la Tropical en la Habana es un espacio que está fuera de los itinerarios turísticos propiamente y sin embargo posee una belleza muy particular. Todas las intentadas grandes fiestass no han podido evitar que cayera en un lamentable estado de decadecia.

Construido a fines del siglo XIX por la familia Herrera, propietaria de la cervecería La Tropical, este jardín de placer cubano es ahora una joya algo abandonada en las afueras de La Habana. Con la intención de reflejar una exuberante propiedad española, Tropical Gardens, como se conoce el sitio en inglés, fue construido alrededor de 1912 y rápidamente se convirtió en un lugar de moda para la alta sociedad y las orquestas más populares de la época. En su mejor momento, los terrenos estaban salpicados de cascadas, miradores y un pequeño palacio al estilo de la Alhambra de Granada. También hubo un gran salón de baile capaz de entretener a unas 500 parejas enamoradas.

Quizás la estrategia comercial más efectiva de la primera mitad del siglo XX, fue la construcción de los Jardines de La Tropical, frutos de una extraordinaria industria hispano-cubana que estimuló el desarrollo fabril en Cuba con su empeño y su acertada política económica, por lo cual alcanzó gran excelencia, dentro y fuera de Cuba, con sus productos y servicios.

RECORRIENDO LOS JARDINES…

Los Jardines de la Tropical tienen por encanto adicional un palacete que recuerda los edificios nazaríes de la Alhambra de Granada, en España; escenario creado por la fabrica de la cerveza La Tropical en 1912, según unos datos, otros dicen en 1904.

El mercado habanero de ese entonces en busca de bebidas frías de máxima calidad pedía contrarrestar el clima tropical con líquidos de su gusto y así fue como surgió La Tropical.

Sus Jardines se encuentran en la ribera este del río Almendares, el de mayor extensión que atraviesa la ciudad-capital y posee 48,8 kilómetros de largo.

Ese complejo recreativo cuenta con interesantes objetos arquitectónicos integrados al exuberante paisaje natural que aun se conserva en muy buen estado.

En una terraza superior del área se edificó un castillo de estilo neoárabe con decorados interiores y una profusa ornamentación en techos y capiteles al estilo de los pabellones de La Alhambra de Granada.

A medida que la popularidad del exuberante espacio social decayó, las estructuras se deterioraron y muchas de las extravagantes florituras del jardín quedaron cubiertas de maleza. El sitio fue parcialmente renovado y varias empresas diferentes, incluidos clubes nocturnos y restaurantes, intentaron recuperar el favor de los jardines, pero ninguno de ellos se mantuvo.

En su fuente exterior el agua brotaba, en sus tiempos originales, además de completarse con una ecléctica fachada, que más bien nos rememora un castillo medieval.

LOS JARDINES DE LA TROPICAL CON EL TIEMPO…

Durante los años 90 del pasado siglo tuvo este parque una reparación y el castillo se adaptó a restaurante, pero luego, las dificultades económicas hicieron el olvido.

Ahora, Los Jardines de la Tropical pertenece a la organización de Parques Metropolitanos de La Habana y se están realizando esfuerzos para preservar la verde historia tropical del sitio. Los conciertos de rock y los festivales de danza frecuentes se llevan a cabo en los terrenos, por lo que, si bien los esmoquin y las galas pueden haber desaparecido, las fiestas continúan.

Western Union amplía sus servicios de remesas a Cuba desde EE.UU. En enero comenzó un programa piloto con el que se podía enviar dinero solo desde Florida.

LA EMPRESA WESTERN UNION comenzará a enviar remesas a Cuba desde todo Estados Unidos, a través de la entidad estatal cubana de servicios financieros ORBIT S.A.

“A partir del día de hoy la compañía Western Union dio por terminada la fase de prueba del servicio a Cuba, que había comenzado el 4 de enero del presente año en algunas oficinas de Florida y procede a extender el servicio a la totalidad de localidades de su red en EE.UU.” dijo, por su parte, la empresa estatal cubana a través de su perfil en Facebook.

De acuerdo con su nota de prensa, durante 2022 ORBIT S.A. gestionó remesas desde Europa y Canadá, sin declarar cifras, y ahora incorporan el servicio desde todo el territorio estadounidense.

“Se trata de una actividad legítima que desde 1995 funcionó en Cuba de acuerdo a los estándares internacionales y que desde el 2020 se había detenido para el mercado estadounidense por decisión unilateral del gobierno de ese país”, acotó.

ORBIT S.A. explicó que los cubanos que reciban remesas podrán tener el dinero disponible en sus cuentas bancarias en divisas y para ello trabajan directamente con las sucursales de los bancos estatales Metropolitano, Popular de Ahorro (BPA) y de Crédito y Comercio (BANDEC).

El servicio es posible “gracias a vínculos comerciales suscritos con compañías financieras internacionales y que favorece tanto a los destinatarios de remesas como a los remitentes de estas, al poder acceder para su tramitación a vías bancarias, rápidas, seguras y menos costosas”.

La empresa, que cuenta con una licencia del Banco Central de Cuba desde hace un año para brindar estos servicios, no especificó si los cubanos que reciban remesas podrán extraer el dinero en efectivo ni la moneda en que podrán recibirlo; tampoco explicó la tasa de cambio que se aplicará.

ORBIT S.A. y Western Union no ha respondido hasta el momento los mensajes enviados por CiberCuba.

Durante 21 años Cuba recibió remesas a través de Western Union, pero en noviembre de 2020 la Administración Tump interrumpió el servicio, alegando que una empresa vinculada al conglomerado militar GAESA era el encargada de las operaciones en el país.

Con esta medida, el gobierno vio limitado su acceso a las divisas extranjeras que enviaban los cubanos y que superaron los 1,500 millones de dólares estadounidenses al año.

Tras las protestas del 11J, el presidente Joe Biden ordenó que se analizara el tema de las remesas a Cuba y buscaran soluciones flexibles para permitir el envío de dinero a personas naturales a Cuba, siempre que se cumplieran las leyes estadounidenses.

Desde que se reanudó el serviciode remesas a Cuba a través de Western Union, se puede enviar dos mil dólares por transacción a personas que no sean miembros prohibidos del gobierno cubano o del Partido Comunista de Cuba.
