Este año, Andy García fue el anfitrión de los Laureus World Sports Awards 2024, que anteriormente fueron presentados por celebridades como Bill Murray, Hugh Grant y Benedict Cumberbatch.
Este año la estrella de Hollywood Andy García ha sido revelado como supresentador de estos reonocidos premios internacionales en 2024.
El evento de honores más prestigioso del calendario deportivo internacional tuvo lugar en el histórico Palacio de Cibeles de Madrid el 22 de abril y García se convirtió en el último miembro de la realeza cinematográfica en asumir el papel de anfitrión. En años anteriores, Bill Murray, Hugh Grant y Benedict Cumberbatch presentaron la entrega de premios, que se transmite en todo el mundo y a la que asisten estrellas del mundo del deporte, el entretenimiento, la moda, los negocios y más.
Los nominados de este año incluyen algunos de los mejores atletas del mundo. El ganador del año pasado, Lionel Messi, vuelve a estar nominado a Deportista del Año, junto a Erling Haaland, Mondo Duplantis, Noah Lyles, Max Verstappen y Novak Djokovic; Las estrellas olímpicas de la pista Sha’Carri Richardson, Faith Kipyegon y Shericka Jackson están preseleccionadas junto a Iga Świątek, Mikaela Shiffrin y la española Aitana Bonmatí en la categoría de Deportista del Año.

Andy García ha protagonizado algunas de las películas más queridas de los últimos 30 años, pero antes de subir al escenario, soñaba con convertirse en un atleta profesional: jugaba baloncesto y béisbol, en los que su entrenador de la liga infantil en Miami era otro. Hoy en día es un apasionado del golf, compite frecuentemente en torneos y ha conseguido un hándicap 7. Si bien es posible que hayamos perdido a un jugador de baloncesto estrella o a un receptor que batió récords, la industria cinematográfica ciertamente ha ganado a uno de sus actores más talentosos.

This year Hollywood star Andy Garcia has been revealed as the host of the 2024 Laureus World Sports Awards.
The most prestigious honours event on the international sporting calendar took place at the historic Palacio de Cibeles in Madrid on April 22 and Garcia became the latest member of cinematic royalty to take on the role of host. In previous years, Bill Murray, Hugh Grant and Benedict Cumberbatch have all presented the Awards show, which is broadcast around the world and attended by stars from the world of sport, entertainment, fashion, business and beyond.
This year’s Nominees include some of the greatest athletes in the world. Last year’s winner, Lionel Messi, is again nominated for Sportsman of the Year, alongside Erling Haaland, Mondo Duplantis, Noah Lyles, Max Verstappen and Novak Djokovic; Olympic track stars Sha’Carri Richardson, Faith Kipyegon and Shericka Jackson are shortlisted alongside Iga Świątek, Mikaela Shiffrin and Spain’s Aitana Bonmatí in the category of Sportswoman of the Year.

Andy Garcia has starred in some of the most beloved movies of the past 30 years, but before he took to the stage, he had dreams of becoming a professional athlete – he played basketball and baseball, in which his Little League coach in Miami was another Oscar-nominated actor, Mickey Rourke.
As an unmistakable screen presence across four decades, Garcia has starred in movies including The Godfather Part III (for which he was nominated for an Oscar), The Untouchables and Ocean’s 11 and its sequels. But his love of sport has never diminished. He is a regular participant in pro-am golf events, has thrown the ceremonial first pitch before an LA Dodgers Major League Baseball game and can often be found on the front row at the Staples Centre, watching the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA.
