Mirtha María Medina Hernández, is a Cuban singer, actress, dancer, vedette, Television Host, and musical comedian born in Havana and living in the United States since 1993. Her career spans from the 1960s to the present.
At the age of seven, she was hired to sing and dance at the “Regalías el Cuño” tobacco shop, in what is considered her first foray into art. At the age of 13, she was selected from among 150 teenagers to play a small role in the film “En Días como Estos” by Jorge Fraga, a sporadic and incipient appearance in Cuban cinema that marked her in her artistic life.
ARTISTIC CAREER
Together with the dancer Roberto Morales, in 1965 she filmed a short musical entitled ¨Mirtha y Roberto¨. At the same time, she participated in the musical comedy ¨Mi solar¨ with the Experimental Dance Ensemble. This work earned her his first tour as a member of the show Gran Music Hall of Cuba presented at the Olympia theater in Paris and later in different European countries such as Spain, Poland, Romania, Germany, and the USSR.
In 1968 she joined the Los Bucaneros quartet and with them, she made her second tour with the show ¨Cuban Salute¨, visiting countries such as Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Romania, and the USSR. The following year he joined a duet with Raul, who was a member of Los Bucaneros and traveled again to the USSR and also to participate as special guests at the gala night of the ¨Ciervo de Oro¨ festival in Romania and at the ¨Sopot 69 festival. in Poland. Mirtha and Raul formed a musical duo with a marked style influenced by Rock in Cuba, Beat and Pop, the duo Mirtha and Raúl became one of the most popular duos in Cuba in the 70s, they were also a couple central and protagonists of the youth television program “Buenas Tardes”.
The year 1975 arrives when Mirtha Medina begins her solo career, she not only dabbles in Pop music, the Ballad, and some musical genres of the Caribbean Nation, she also does it within the international repertoire.
That same year she recorded her first full-length album, placing on the hit list of the time songs such as “La flor de mi Jardin”, “The lived memories”, “Oh María”, “I don’t know, I don’t know”, etc. .., without ever disassociating himself from work in the Musical Theater, the Varieties and the spectacle in a general sense, playing leading roles in numerous comedies, in cabaret or in large theatrical and television productions.
She also premiered on Cuban tables “My Fair Lady”, one of her main roles as a musical comedian.
My beautiful lady becomes the cultural event of the year on the Island, putting Mirtha in the center of popular acceptance and specialized criticism.
In 1982 the artist premiered the song “Caricias” by Amaury Pérez Vidal, this song being selected as the Pop song of the year 1982 in Cuba, 4 thus marking another stage in her career since it signifies the beginning of a musical artistic binomial that became in other important songs such as, “Stay like never before”, “I need more” and “Because you are not going to love me”, 5 the latter in duet with Amaury Pérez himself.
In 1986 she performed the one-man show “Mirtha a todo Mirtha” under the artistic direction of Eugenio Antonio Pedraza Ginori, a show where she combines singing, dancing, and acting at the Karl Marx Theater (formerly Blanquita).
In 1986 Mirtha agrees to play the character of Irene Molloy (the milliner) in the Super Theater Production “Hello Dolly”, along with the famous Cuban star Rosa Fornés. In 1987 she toured with the renowned Cuban pianist Gonzalito Rubalcaba to England. Mirtha had the honor of being the first Cuban songwriter to perform in London in the last quarter of the 20th century. Presentations included a special performance at the Teatro de la Queen.
In 1988 she centralized the show “Fiesta Cubana Show” in the nightclub “Los Tulipanes”, Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico, under the direction of the dancer, choreographer, and artistic director Tomás Morales
In 1991, she participated as co-presenter in the Mexican television program (Televisa) “La Movida”, along with the actress and presenter Verónica Castro in a special edition dedicated to Cuba.
MIRTHA MEDINA ARRIVES IN THE UNITED STATES
In 1993 and after an extensive tour of Mexico, Mirtha Medina along with hers, her children, also her singers, Guianko Gómez and Vanessa Formell, and some musicians from her group, emigrated to the United States to settle in the city of Miami
Since her arrival, the artist has worked tirelessly: plays, concerts and recitals, radio and television programs, and countless nightclubs know about her art. La Medina, during all these years in exile, has also taken her work to countries such as Puerto Rico, Argentina, Colombia, Spain, Uruguay, and Ecuador, where she has garnered a large number of admirers.

In October 2011 she participated in the Musical Show “Grandes Divas sing a las Diego”, at the Miami Dade County Auditorium, sharing stages with the singers: Valeria Lynch, María Conchita Alonso, Sophy, Annia Linares, Beatriz Marquez, and Ana Maria Perera in a musical tribute to the composer sisters Maria Luisa and Teresita Diego.

Mirtha María Medina Hernández, es una cantante, actriz, bailarina, vedette, Presentadora de Televisión y comediante musical cubana nacida en La Habana y residente en Estados Unidos desde 1993. Su carrera se extiende desde los años 1960 hasta la actualidad.
A los siete años fue contratada para cantar y bailar en la tabaquería “Regalías el Cuño”, en lo que se considera su primera incursión en el arte. A los 13 años fue seleccionada entre 150 adolescentes para interpretar un pequeño papel en el filme “En días como estos” de Jorge Fraga una esporádica e incipiente aparición en el cine cubano que la marcó en su vida artística.
CARRERA ARTISTICA
Junto al bailarín Roberto Morales rueda en 1965 un corto musical titulado ¨Mirtha y Roberto¨.A su vez participa en la comedia musical ¨Mi solar¨con el Conjunto Experimental de Danza.Este trabajo le vale su primera gira como integrante del espectáculo Gran Music Hall de Cuba presentado en el teatro Olympia de Paris y luego en diferentes países de Europa como España, Polonia, Rumania, Alemania y la URSS.
En 1968 se une al cuarteto Los Bucaneros y con ellos efectúa su segunda gira con el espectáculo ¨Saludo cubano¨visitando países como Polonia, Hungría, Bulgaria, Checoslovaquia, Rumanía y la URSS. Al año Siguiente se uno a dúo con Raul, quien era integrante de Los Bucaneros y viaja nuevamente a la URSS y también para participar como invitados especiales a la noche de gala del festival ¨Ciervo de Oro¨en Rumanía y en el festival ¨Sopot 69¨ en Polonia. Mirtha y Raul formaron un dúo musical con un marcado estilo influenciado por el Rock en Cuba, el Beat y el Pop, el dúo Mirtha y Raúl llegó a convertirse en uno de los dúos más populares de Cuba en los años 70, además fueron pareja central y protagonistas del programa televisivo Juvenil “Buenas Tardes”.
Llega el año 1975 cuando Mirtha Medina comienza su carrera en solitario, no solo incursiona en la música Pop, la Balada y algunos géneros musicales propios de la Nación Caribeña, también lo hace dentro del repertorio internacional.
Ese mismo año graba su primer disco de larga duración colocando en la lista de éxitos de la época temas como “La flor de mi Jardín”, “Los recuerdos vividos”, “Oh María”, “No sé, No sé”, etc…, sin desvincularse nunca del trabajo en el Teatro Musical, las Varietés y el espectáculo en sentido general, interpretando roles protagónicos en numerosas comedias, en cabaret o en grandes producciones teatrales y televisivas.
También estrenó en las tablas cubanas “My Fair Lady” (Mi bella dama), uno de sus principales roles como comediante musical.
Mi bella dama se convierte en suceso cultural del año en la Isla, poniendo a Mirtha en el centro de aceptación popular y de la crítica especializada.
En 1982 la artista estrena la canción “Caricias” de Amaury Pérez Vidal, siendo este tema seleccionado como la canción Pop del año 1982 en Cuba,4 marcando así otra etapa en su carrera ya que significa el inicio de un binomio artístico musical que devino en otros importantes temas tales como, “Quédate como nunca”, “Yo necesito mas” y “Porque no me vas a querer”,5 este último a dúo con el propio Amaury Pérez.

En 1986 realiza el unipersonal “Mirtha a todo Mirtha” bajo la dirección artística de Eugenio Antonio Pedraza Ginori un espectáculo donde combina canto, baile y actuación en el teatro Karl Marx(antes Blanquita)
En 1986 Mirtha accede a interpretar el personaje de Irene Molloy (la sombrerera) en la Súper Producción Teatral “Hello Dolly”, junto a la célebre vedette cubana Rosa Fornés. En 1987 realizó una gira junto al reconocido pianista cubano Gonzalito Rubalcaba a Inglaterra.Mirtha tuvo el honor de ser la primera cancionera cubana que se ha presentado en Londres en el último cuarto del siglo XX.Las presentaciones incluyeron una actuación especial en el Teatro de la Reina.
En 1988 centraliza el espectáculo “Fiesta cubana Show” en el centro nocturno “Los Tulipanes”, Mérida, Yucatán, México, bajo la dirección del bailarín,coreógrafo y director artístico Tomás Morales
En 1991 participa como co-presentadora en el programa de la televisión Mexicana (Televisa) “La Movida”, junto a la actriz y presentadora Verónica Castro en una edición especial dedicada a Cuba.
MIRTHA MEDINA LLEGA A ESTADOS UNIDOS
En 1993 y luego de una extensa gira por México, Mirtha Medina junto a sus hijos también cantantes Guianko Gómez y Vanessa Formell, y algunos músicos de su grupo, emigran a Estados Unidos para radicarse en la ciudad de Miami.
Desde su llegada la artista ha trabajado incansablemente: obras de teatro, conciertos y recitales, programas de radio y televisión e innumerables centros nocturnos conocen de su arte. La Medina, durante todos estos años en el exilio, también ha llevado su quehacer a países como Puerto Rico, Argentina, Colombia, España, Uruguay y Ecuador, donde ha cosechado gran cantidad de admiradores.
En el año 2002 La Academia de las Luminarias de las Bellas Artes (ALBA) cuenta una vez más con Mirtha Medina para la Obra: “El Almacén de Sueños”, “Pasión Tropical”, “Tropical Dream” (Sueño Tropical)
En el año 2006 Mirtha protagoniza la producción teatral ‘La bella Otero’, de Pedro Román, en un trabajo de caracterización cuyo personaje abarca desde la juventud hasta la vejez.
En agosto de 2009 es homenajeada en el Festival de verano “Tony Reyes”10 de Toronto, Canadá, uno de los festivales latinos más importantes de este país norteño.
En octubre de 2011 participa en el Espectáculo Musical “Grandes Divas cantan a las Diego”, en el Miami Dade County Auditorium, compartiendo escenarios con las cantantes: Valeria Lynch, María Conchita Alonso, Sophy, Annia Linares, Beatriz Marquez y Ana Maria Perera en un homenaje musical a las hermanas compositoras Maria Luisa y Teresita Diego.
En agosto de 2015, por primera vez juntas en Concierto exclusivo, Annia Linares y Mirtha Medina presentan el Show “Enemigas íntimas”
