Una revelación de nuestra isla fue el muy conocido en todo el continente cantante Fernando Albuerne, cuyo nombre completo fue Luis Fernando Albuerne Garcell y que nació el 28 de Octubre de 1920 en Sagua de Tánamo, en la provincia de Oriente, 50 km al norte de Guantánamo.

Siendo muy joven se graduó de Ingeniero Agrónomo en la Universidad de La Habana, comenzando a trabajar en la producción de perfumes para la empresa Jabón Albuerne, propiedad de su padre. Aun cuando carecía completamente de conocimientos musicales tenía entusiasmo por el canto, y fue consolidando su voz y su estilo en reuniones familiares y entre sus compañeros de estudios.

En 1941 se presentó en Radio Cadena Suaritos para averiguar cuanto debía pagar por grabar un disco, pero cuando escucharon la pureza de su voz de tenor fue inmediatamernte contratado como artista exclusivo a tres dólares por programa.

Fue su primera presentación que realizó el 17 de noviembre de 1941 en “Radio Cadena Suaritos” con el tema “Ven amor”. Desde ese momento fue contratado por dicha emisora radial y en ella actuó por más de 12 años.

Debutó en Noviembre de ese año interpretando “Ven Amor”, tema compuesto por un compañero de trabajo, acompañado por la orquesta del pianista Santos Menéndez. Para 1945 su sueldo era de 1.000 dólares mensuales, uno de los más altos que se abonaban en la isla a un solista. Permaneció ligado a Radio Suaritos hasta 1954.

Realizó presentaciones en Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Brasil, Chile Uruguay y Argentina. Estando en Buenos Aires, realizó presentaciones de radio y grabó para el sello Odeon el vals “Dices que Tengo celos” de Santos Menéndez. Este disco le hizo ganador de su primer disco de oro, superando el millón de copias vendidas.

Desde 1947 realizó continuas giras por toda América. Ese año llegó por primera vez a Argentina, donde su éxito fue inmediato. Su gran hit fue “Dicen que Tengo Celos”, que vendió más de un millón de ejemplares y le significó su primer disco de oro. En 1953 llegó a Europa, triunfando en España, Portugal y Francia.

También, a comienzos de los años 1950 se presentó en localidades de Europa como Lisboa, Madrid y la televisión francesa. En 1960 fijó su residencia en Venezuela.

Después de la revolución castrista se radicó en Caracas, para luego afincarse definitivamente en Miami, donde puso fin a su carrera artística.

Se distinguió en sus presentaciones en las Peliculas “La Liga de las Muchachas” y “Rincon Criollo” ambas en 1950.

Falleció el 8 Julio del 2000 en Miami Florida.

It was his first presentation on November 17, 1941, on “Radio Cadena Suaritos” with the theme “Come love.” From that moment he was hired by the radio station and he played there for more than 12 years.

He debuted in November of that year performing “Ven Amor”, a song composed by a co-worker, accompanied by the orchestra of the pianist Santos Menéndez. By 1945 his salary was $ 1,000 per month, one of the highest paid on the island to a soloist. He remained linked to Radio Suaritos until 1954.
