LA-VENUS-ASESINA

The strange death of the French prostitute Rachel Dekeirsgeiter, conceptualized as the crime of the twentieth century in Cuba and the fateful luck of Lola, who is said to have been murdered in Havana at three o’clock in the afternoon, of tabloids sensationalist, manipulated by the press until reaching fame, even international.

Both assassinations never cleared up, and apparently had the passional element as a mobile, remained unpunished, like other similar cases that occurred during the time and which inspired hundreds of newspaper reports, minute judicial processes and at the time aroused the interest of the citizens in one and another corner of the Caribbean island.

In these and other stories to tell women are listed as the fatal victims; but Maria Luisa Grant Lamigueiro, known as ‘La Venus’ or “Nena Capitolio” for her monumental anatomy, was convicted of the murder of her lover, Santiago Gonzalez, a student and employee of the Bristol hotel in Havana, who quietly doubled her age.

She finalized it in the guest room of San Rafael Street, in the Cuban capital where they lived, and although the woman, who had autoagreded, wanted to pass the fact, first, as a suicide pact between them and then as a self-defense, his arguments did not convince the authorities and in the end they spoke the facts.

The case discussed with delirium at the end of the 30’s of the last century, is one of the most brilliant days of Cuban Politiology, while the press of the time exploited at its whim the lusts of sensuality and sentimentality, weaving from of the behavior of the characters involved, the legends more pilgrim and found.

The investigations included Dr. Israel Castellanos, director of the National Identification Office, and Manuel Barroso, a notable figure in Cuban Legal Medicine, and in the spectacular trial that followed, was found guilty of the crime of homicide and sentenced to 12 years of deprivation of liberty, in spite of the pressures that high figures of the policy tried to exert in his favor.

A sad story of our always beautiful Old Havana, our Cuban Capital.
