GÜINES, CUBA, FIRST CITY UNITED BY RAILWAY WITH HAVANA. GÜINEROS.

Güines is a municipality and town in the Mayabeque Province of Cuba. It is located 50 km (31 mi) southeast of Havana, next to the Mayabeque River. It is the most populated town, but not the capital, of its province.

HISTORY
The city was founded in 1737 by the Spanish. Prior to the arrival of the Spanish, what is now Güines was part of a region ruled by the Indian chief Habaguanex.

One of the earliest mentions of the word Güines is in 1598 when Don Diego de Rivera or Ribera was awarded a land grant for Los Güines Corral.

Güines can be considered one of the primary points of Cuba’s transformation into a sugar-producing slave society in the wake of the Haitian Revolution. Its demographics radically changed as a result. As the historian Ada Ferrer explains, “people classified as white had accounted for about three-quarters of the population in 1775” but “by the 1820s, they constituted less than 38 percent.”

In 1837, a railway was opened from Havana – the first in Cuba, and one of the earliest in the Americas.

GEOGRAPHY
The municipality is divided into the barrios of Catalina, Norte, Rural Primero, Rural Segundo, Rural Tercero, Rural Cuarto and Sur.

DEMOGRAPHICS
In 2004, the municipality of Güines had a population of 68,951. With a total area of 445 km2 (172 sq mi). It has a population density of 154.9/km2 (401/sq mi).

“SOL DE BATEY”, TELENOVELA CUBANA. A REVENGE OF OUR NATIONAL TRADITIONS.PHOTOS / VIDEOS.

“Sol de Batey” is a Cuban telenovela from 1985, an adaptation of the original by Dora Alonso that was brought to the radio in 1950. It consists of 70 episodes of approximately thirty minutes in length.

In the mid-eighties, Cuban Television tried to catch up with ‘Sol de Batey’, which rediscovered the past through the dominant codes in the Cuban radio drama and soap opera of the 1950s, with certain touches of modernity such as the incest suggested between the father and aunt of the protagonist, or the overflowing sensuality of the relationship between slaves.

An experienced director like Roberto Garriga was in charge of recycling this radio soap opera that told two parallel love stories: one between young Creoles heirs of the slavist sociocracy (Susana Pérez and Armando Tomey) while the other impossible love story occurred between slaves, Liberato and Tojosa, performed with conviction by Idelfonso Tamayo and Luisa María Jiménez.
Nor should we forget the presence of two experienced actresses from television and theater: Aurora Pita and Verónica Lynn, who embodied the good and bad aristocracy, while Ramoncito Veloz gave a face to one of the worst villains that Cuban television remembers.

The telenovela had enormous popularity, constituting today a benchmark in the popular imagination of the Cuban and for the filmmakers of this genre.

The telenovela is set in the 19th century.
Most of the outdoor recordings were made in the colonial zone of Trinidad (Cuba).

The telenovela has been considered one of the best Cuban television productions of all time and has been broadcast several times. It usually serves as a point of comparison with other series and certain phrases are still remembered in the public imagination6 and viewers still identify several of its actors by the name of the characters they played.

In April 2016 part of the cast was reunited in Miami on the television program ‘El Happy Hour de Carlucho’, hosted by the presenter Carlos Córdoba (Carlucho) that was broadcast on Channel 41 in Miami.

“Sol de Batey” es una telenovela cubana de 1985, adaptación del original de Dora Alonso que fuera llevada a la radio en 1950. Consta de 70 capítulos de aproximadamente treinta minutos de duración.

A mediados de los años ochenta la Televisión Cubana intentó ponerse al día con ‘Sol de batey’, que redescubría el pasado mediante los códigos dominantes en la radionovela y telenovela cubanas de los años cincuenta, con ciertos toques de modernidad como el incesto sugerido entre el padre y la tía de la protagonista, o la sensualidad desbordada de la relación entre los esclavos.

Un director experimentado como Roberto Garriga fue el encargado de reciclar esta radionovela que contaba dos historias de amor paralelas: una entre jóvenes criollos herederos de la sacarocracia exclavista (Susana Pérez y Armando Tomey) mientras que la otra historia de amor imposible ocurría entre esclavos, Liberato y Tojosa, interpretados con toda convicción por Idelfonso Tamayo y Luisa María Jiménez.
Tampoco debe olvidarse la presencia de dos experimentadas actrices de la televisión y el teatro: Aurora Pita y Verónica Lynn, que encarnaban la aristocracia buena y la mala, mientras que Ramoncito Veloz le daba rostro a uno de los peores malvados que recuerda la televisión cubana.

La telenovela tuvo una popularidad enorme, constituyendo a día de hoy un referente en el imaginario popular del cubano y para los realizadores de este género.

Telenovela “El Sol del Batey”

La telenovela está ambientada en el siglo XIX.
La mayor parte de las grabaciones en exteriores se realizaron en la zona colonial de Trinidad (Cuba).

La telenovela ha sido considerada una de las mejores producciones de la televisión cubana de todos los tiempos y se ha retransmitido en varias ocasiones. Usualmente sirve de punto de comparación con otras serie y ciertas frases aún son recordadas en el imaginario público6 y los telespectadores aún identifican a varios de sus actores por el nombre de los personajes que interpretaron.

En abril del 2016 parte del elenco se reencontró en Miami en el programa televisivo ‘El Happy Hour de Carlucho’, conducido por el presentador Carlos Córdoba (Carlucho) que se transmitió por el Canal 41 de Miami.

Aymée Regla Nuviola Suárez better known as Aymeé Nuviola was born in the neighborhood of San Leopoldo in Havana, Cuba on January 8, 1973. She is a singer, pianist, composer, and actress, nicknamed “La Sonera del Mundo”. She is also known for having played Celia Cruz in the Colombian telenovela, Celia.

She won a Grammy Award for Best Tropical Latin Album with A Journey Through Cuban Music in the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards in 2020. «Como anillo al dedo», Aymée Nuviola, winner of the Latin Grammy 2018 as the best tropical fusion album and nominated for Cubadisco 2018 in the category of dance music voices, in 2014 nominated for the Latin Grammy and Grammy G 2015 with the album «First Class to Havana» as best Salsa album and best Tropical album.

She has also collaborated on multiple Grammy-winning albums, the last of which was «No Quiero Llanto» del Septeto Santiaguero in 2016. In 2014, Aymée was selected among the 25 most influential figures in Miami by the newspaper New Times, at the end of 2016, she reached # 1 on the Billboard Tropical list with the theme «Bailando todo se olvida» and she is the first Afro-Latina in the history of Spotify, in representing with her image and her music the Black History Month, of the year 2017 (annual celebration in the United States) through the playlist with the name, “Viva Afro-Latino”.

Born into a family of musicians, she began playing piano at the age of 3 years, later she graduated from the Manuel Saumell Conservatory in Havana. The music of Aymée is a fusion between genres such as Jazz, Timba, Son, Guaguancó, Guaracha, and Charanga, all of them decorated with urban electronic colors. En 2015, fue invitada a participar en el evento audiovisual más importante de Puerto Rico, “El Especial de Navidad del Banco Popular”. En 2016, se le entregó la llave de la ciudad de Miami y el alcalde Tomas Regalado proclamó el 10 de febrero como el día de Aymée Nuviola en la ciudad de Miami, distinción que repitió el alcalde de la ciudad de Houston, Sylvester Turner proclamando el 14 de octubre, 2016, como el día de Aymée Nuviola en esa ciudad.

VIDA PRIVADA
En 2010, Aymée conoció a Paulo Simeón, productor y director de Televisión y Radio (actualmente es su manager universal) con quien tuvo un compromiso de un año antes de casarse.
En 1998, Aymée, aunque criado y educado como católico, se convirtió al protestantismo.

FILANTROPÍA
Aymée, coopera desde hace más de 12 años con la “Liga Contra el Cáncer” de la ciudad de Miami, también con la organización “Camina Ahora por Autism Speaks” y con varias organizaciones de ayuda en Colombia, Venezuela y Puerto Rico, para el Este último, fue parte de la recolección y distribución de un avión privado provisto por Gregory Elias y Top Stop Music, con más de tres toneladas de comida para las víctimas del huracán María en la isla, así como escribió y luego grabó junto con el El cantante Rey Ruiz, la canción: “Pa’lante Puerto Rico”, que donó todos los derechos de autoría y distribución para recaudar fondos para las víctimas de dicho huracán.
