CUBA ACCEPTS THE AMOUNT OF ($)15,000 MILLION OF INTERNATIONAL DEBT.

Cuba wants to return to the international market and its debt figure at 15,000 million dólares.Supone a great first step and now the creditors will meet to set policy for a formal conversation.

Cuba and the Paris Club, composed of rich creditor nations have agreed that the island owes 15.000 billion from the default of 1986, an important first step to renegotiate the debt, according to Western diplomats explained.

“The final amount of 15.000 million was approved by both parties, so it’s a great first step and now the creditors will meet to set policy for a formal conversation” has indicated a diplomat close to the discussions, who asked not be identified.

The figure represents the total that Cuba because 16 nations of the Paris Club from its “default” (suspension of payments) in 1986 and includes principal, service charges, interest and penalties.

Diplomats said the deal was another sign that the Government of Cuba is interested in returning to join the global economy and international financial rules. The two sides can now move to the next stage of renegotiating the terms of payment.

In recent years, Cuba made significant cancellations of its debt in similar negotiations with other creditors. Most Paris Club members are willing to show flexibility with Cuba because of their growing interest in doing business with the country after the loosening of the ties between the island and the United States, according to diplomats added.

“Everyone wants to put this behind us and move forward now, and frankly, after 30 years I think that banks will be happy just to have something in return,” a European diplomat added.

The Cuban government last reported its “active” foreign debt accumulated after its moratorium on 13,900 million in 2011. No reports its “passive” debt before the “default”, which economists estimate at 8,000 million plus interest, service charges and penalties.

Cuba y el Club de París, integrado por naciones acreedoras ricas, han acordado que la isla debe 15.000 millones de dólares desde la cesación de pagos de 1986, un importante primer paso para renegociar la deuda, según han explicado diplomáticos occidentales.

«La cantidad final de 15.000 millones de dólares fue aprobada por ambas partes, así que es un gran primer paso y ahora los acreedores se reunirán para fijar la política para unas conversaciones formales», ha indicado un diplomático cercano a las discusiones, que pidió no ser identificado.

La cifra representa el total que Cuba debe a 16 naciones del Club de París desde su «default» (suspensión de pagos) de 1986 e incluye capital, cargos por servicios, intereses y penalizaciones.

Los diplomáticos dijeron que el acuerdo fue otra señal de que el Gobierno de Cuba está interesado en regresar a la economía global y adherirse a las reglas financieras internacionales. Las dos partes pueden pasar ahora a la siguiente fase de renegociar los términos del pago.

En los últimos años, Cuba logró importantes condonaciones de su deuda en negociaciones similares con otros acreedores. La mayoría de los integrantes del Club de París están dispuestos a mostrar flexibilidad con Cuba debido a su creciente interés en realizar negocios con el país después de la distensión de los lazos entre la isla y Estados Unidos, según añaden diplomáticos.

El Gobierno cubano informó por última vez de su deuda externa «activa», acumulada luego de su moratoria, en 13.900 millones de dólares en el año 2011. No informa sobre su deuda «pasiva» desde antes del «default», la que economistas calculan en unos 8.000 millones de dólares más intereses, cargos por servicios y sanciones.

TONY PLANA, “UGLY BETTY” ACTOR, DIRECTOR.

Tony Plana (born April 19, 1952) is a Cuban-American actor and director. He is well known for playing Betty Suarez’s father, Ignacio Suarez, on the ABC show Ugly Betty.

Plana was born in Havana. His family moved to Miami in 1960. He is a graduate of Loyola Marymount University and was trained in acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, UK.

CAREER.

While he is known to a broad audience for his roles in feature films and television, Plana is also known for his skills in acting and directing for the stage. He has created and directed a number of productions of the works of Shakespeare for minority audiences and he has been active in both the Los Angeles, Washington, DC and New York City theater communities, including leading appearances on Broadway and at New York City’s Public Theater. He originated the role of Rudy in the L.A. production of the Luis Valdez play Zoot Suit, going on to play Rudy in the film version as well.

Plana has acted, directed and written for television in series, mini-series, and specials such as Hill Street Blues, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Resurrection Boulevard, Commander in Chief, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, The West Wing, 24, Cagney & Lacey and many others.

Plana has acted in films such as An Officer and a Gentleman, Three Amigos!, Goal!, Lone Star, and others. He is known to PC gamers as the voice of Manny Calavera in the Lucasarts adventure game Grim Fandango. In 2011, Plana guest starred in Desperate Housewives as Gabrielle Solis’s abusive stepfather, Alejandro Perez. He also directed Witch’s Lament, a recent Desperate Housewives episode in Desperate Housewives (Season 8). In 2011, he appeared in Body of Proof, in the episode “Helping Hand”.

Plana teaches acting at California State University, Dominguez Hills and Rio Hondo College. In 2012, he served as an official judge for the Noor Iranian Film Festival.

Plana is currently volunteering as a spokesperson for Comprehensive Immigration Reform. He was the Keynote speaker for the 2012 LULAC conference in Coronado Springs Convention Center in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

EL PARQUE TRILLO, EL CORAZÓN DE LA HABANA.

El parque Trillo es uno de los más antiguos de La Habana que, según la papelería citadina, surgió como un pequeño asiento para el descanso, en la primera década del pasado siglo.

El 26 de julio de 1912, por acuerdo 730 del Ayuntamiento de La Habana, se constituyó el barrio de Cayo Hueso donde está situado este espacio arbolado, que ahora es además una importante plaza cultural del barrio. Esa es la génesis del popular parque, donde siempre ha sonado la rumba.

Sitio acogedor, el Parque Trillo se caracteriza por su íntimo carácter, sus callecillas internas pobladas de árboles, y en especial por quienes hacen de su entorno el momento para la conversación y el descanso.

Son personas de más edad las que desde horas tempranas llegan hasta la placita de Trillo. Allí, entre la seguridad de sus existencias, añoranzas y recuerdos, los ancianos vuelven a las épocas en que, en ese mismo lugar sonaban los cueros, ahora más de tarde en tarde, y los bailadores se lanzaban al ruedo en busca de la alegría inmediata.

El Parque Trillo, como el del Curita, en el pleno corazón de La Habana, es uno de los más conocidos de La Habana. Puede decirse que todos los caminos conducen a ese popular sitio.

Emplazado entre las calles San Rafael, San Miguel, Aramburu y Hospital, fue uno de los últimos donde existía cada semana un mercado abierto, donde el comprador encontraba el producto más insólito: desde las sabrosas y refrescantes frutas cubanas, como el mango y la fruta bomba (papaya) o las viandas de estación, entre ellas el boniato y la yuca, y los sabrosos platanitos, siempre en época, pasando por distintos tipos de carnes, aves, huevos.

Era una especie de mercado de pulgas o pulguero, existente en otras naciones de América Latina.

Alli tambien fue también escenario de hechos sangrientos, entre los que aún se recuerda el asesinato del famoso delincuente de la primera mitad del siglo pasado conocido por el pueblo como “Pato Macho”.

En la primera mitad del siglo anterior murió en el lugar en un enfrentamiento armado con la policia el tristemente célebre delicuente conocido por el sobrenombre de “Pato Macho”

Se cuenta que el rufián que presumía de buen tirador, permanecía escondido en la Sierra del Arzobispo, a más de medio centenar de kilómetros de La Habana y que el día de su fallecimiento, fue sorprendido en el parque Trillo, cuando recogía un paquete de víveres.

Es por eso que nació la copla popular Por culpa de la chaucha(comida)/mataron a Pato Macho/ allá en el parque Trillo/ peleando con los muchachos( policias)/e incluso en 1966 el dramaturgo cubano Ignacio Gutiérres, estrenó en La Habana la obra teatral “Pato Macho” con música de Héctor Quintero.

Hasta una copla popular le dedicaron al matón, que dice así: por culpa de la chaucha (comida)/mataron a Pato Macho/allá en el parque de Trillo/peleando con los muchachos/…

Ahora las más viejas y asiduas personas que concurren al espacioso sitio, en busca de esparcimiento y descanso, rememoran en ocasiones el acontecimiento, al compás del sonido de las claves y tumbadoras, que repican en el cercano Palacio de la Rumba, inaugurado a finales de 2009.

Cuentan además que un alcalde habanero de aquella época, Justo Luis del Pozo, enterró un cubo en los terrenos del parque, cual símbolo de la escasez de agua del barrio de Cayo Hueso, y sus deseos, nunca materializados en su mandato, de que la situación respecto al vital líquido, se normalizara.

Presiden los recovecos de este popular espacio habanero una estatua del general de la Guerra de Independencia Quintín Banderas, al que los cubanos rinden homenaje con su bregar diario.

También, en el Parque Trillo, hay una Ceiba gigante, árbol sagrado de los dioses del panteón yoruba, y se dice que si usted camina a su alrededor puede ver los muertos de su familia.
