NORWEGIAN MIAMI BASE CRUISE LINE ANNOUNCES ITS BIGGEST VESSEL TRAVELING TO CUBA.

Norwegian Cruise Line’s first cruises to Cuba are now open for bookings.

The Miami-based line is taking reservations for the recently announced four-day sailings from Miami to the island nation, which will kick off on May 1.

The trips will take place on the 2,004-passenger Norwegian Sky, which will become the biggest vessel traveling between the U.S. and Cuba.

Five of the voyages are planned for May. They’ll include an overnight stay in Havana and a stop at Great Stirrup Cay, Norwegian’s private island in the Bahamas.

Norwegian is one of six lines that received approval from the Cuban government in December to begin sailing to Cuba in 2017. Also receiving approval were Norwegian’s two sister lines, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises, as well as Royal Caribbean, Azamara Club Cruises and Pearl Seas Cruises.

While the Obama administration has loosened restrictions on travel to Cuba, U.S. visitors still are limited in the activities they are allowed to do in the country by the terms of a five-decade-old embargo. The embargo specifies that activities fall within one of 12 approved categories. The categories include educational pursuits such as people-to-people exchanges.

Fares for the Norwegian sailings to Cuba start at $699 per person, including unlimited beverages.

Cruceros primera de Norwegian Cruise Line a Cuba ya están abiertas para las reservas.

La línea en Miami está tomando reservas para las recientemente anunciadas cuatro días salidas desde Miami a la nación de la isla, que se iniciará el 1 de mayo.

Los viajes llevará a cabo en el 2.004 pasajeros Norwegian Sky, que se convertirá en el buque más grande entre Estados Unidos y Cuba.

GOOGLE WILL GUARANTEE CUBA QUICKLY CONNECTION TO INTERNET.

An agreement signed in December between Google and ETECSA would ensure the Cuban people faster access to the services and contents of Google.

The Cuban people could soon more quick access to the services and contents of Google, said in Havana, Brett Perlmutter, head of strategy and operations of Google for the island, Caribbean News Digital.

This would be possible thanks to the signature in December of an agreement between Google and ETECSA, the Cuban State-owned telecommunications, which is that provides phone service and the internet in the Caribbean country.

“The agreement is related to a program called Google Global Cache (GGC) and proper consists of the placement of our servers, the servers of Google, here in Cuba, in a datacenter of ETECSA,” Perlmutter said.

The installation of the program Google Global Cache would ensure access to the contents of Google at a rate about 10 times higher than the current one, a better use of the bandwidth that the Cubans used on the island when they connect to the internet using Wi-Fi and prevent falling sites.

The servers will be installed soon in the island (the date is not mentioned) and stored the contents of all platforms, services, and products of the company.

According to Perlmutter “there is an express will, of ETECSA and the Cuban Government, working with Google, and I am particularly impressed by the thrust of that will”.

He said that Google has presented countless options to Cuban Government “and what most makes you feel optimistic is that all those options are still on the table.” None has been ruled out. We are holding talks and discussing all of them with the Cuban people”.

Perlmutter said he hopes that this first agreement between Google and ETECSA will open the way to other future agreements between the two companies, primarily in assistance to Cuba to provide internet access in households.

GOOGLE GARANTIZARÁ A CUBA MAYOR RAPIDEZ EN EL INTERNET.

Un acuerdo firmado en diciembre entre Google y ETECSA garantizaría al pueblo cubano un acceso más rápido a los servicios y contenidos de Google.

El pueblo cubano podría tener próximamente un acceso más rápido a los servicios y contenidos de Google, afirmó en La Habana, Brett Perlmutter, Jefe de Estrategia y Operaciones de Google para la isla, a Caribbean News Digital.

Esto sería posible gracias a la firma en diciembre de un acuerdo entre Google y ETECSA, la empresa estatal cubana de telecomunicaciones, que es la que suministra servicio telefónico y de internet en el país caribeño.

“El acuerdo está relacionado con un programa denominado Google Global Cache (GGC) y consiste propiamente en la colocación de nuestros servidores, de los servidores de Google, aquí en Cuba, en un centro de datos de ETECSA”, dijo Perlmutter.

La instalación del programa Google Global Cache garantizaría acceso a los contenidos de Google a una velocidad unas 10 veces superior a la actual, un mejor empleo del ancho de banda que utilizan los cubanos en la isla cuando se conectan a internet utilizando Wi-Fi e impediría que los sitios se caigan.

Los servidores serán instalados próximamente en la isla (no se menciona la fecha) y almacenarán los contenidos de todas las plataformas, servicios y productos de la empresa.

“Lo que el Google Global Cache garantiza es que los contenidos más importantes bajen directamente a Cuba desde la nube de Google, sin que medie nada más. Así que dentro de muy poco tiempo, habrá una comunicación directa entre el centro de datos de ETECSA, donde estarán instalados los servidores de Google, y el usuario final en Cuba”, señaló Perlmutter.

Según Perlmutter “existe una voluntad expresa, tanto de ETECSA como del gobierno cubano, de trabajar con Google, y estoy particularmente impresionado por el empuje de esa voluntad”.

Indicó que Google ha presentado al Gobierno cubano innumerables opciones “y lo que más le hace sentir optimista es que todas esas opciones continúan estando sobre la mesa. Ninguna ha sido descartada. Estamos sosteniendo conversaciones y discutiendo todas ellas con los cubanos”.

Perlmutter dijo que espera que este primer acuerdo entre Google y ETECSA abra el camino a otros convenios futuros entre ambas empresas, sobre todo en la asistencia a Cuba para proveer acceso a internet desde los hogares.
