LA PENÍNSULA DE GUANAHACABIBES Y EL TESORO ENTERRADO DE LA VIEJA CATEDRAL MEXICANA DE MERIDA.

La Península de Guanahacabibes es el punto más occidental de la Isla Cubana, localizada en la Provincia de Pinar del Río. Es precisamente en ella, en esta parte de Cuba donde se tejen antiguas leyendas sobre valiosos tesoros escondidos, joyas y riquezas desde hace muchos años.

Se dice que en alguna parte debe estar escondido el crucifijo de oro a tamaño natural, los cinco barriles de alhajas, las botijas llenas de monedas… Quizás en la furnia o más hacia el oeste… Tal vez haya que caminar al sur de la península o irse al norte, por la ensenada de Cajón. La gente busca el tesoro en tierra firme y otros dicen que las riquezas naufragaron en las propias embarcaciones que las trasladaban, hace siglos.

Historias y Leyendas.

Según cuentan, en 1642, ante la inminencia de ataques de corsarios y piratas, desde la ciudad mexicana de Mérida zarparon hacia La Habana varios barcos con parte del patrimonio de la catedral de esa urbe. Ya en alta mar comenzaron los conflictos y los tripulantes decidieron enrumbarse hacia Guanahacabibes, un lugar más cercano y, quizás, menos convulso. De acuerdo con la versión más difundida de la historia, solo uno de esos hombres logró llegar hasta la iglesia de Guane, dejar algunos documentos con las coordenadas del lugar donde había sido sepultado el tesoro y contar los contratiempos del viaje. Poco después falleció de tanta fatiga.

Desde entonces han pasado siglos y hoy nadie sabe dónde están los supuestos papeles, ni dónde se hizo el enterramiento. Aun así, los aventureros siguen tras las pistas porque, a fin de cuentas, Guanahacabibes es un lugar espléndido para eso: para perderse monte adentro y estar semanas y semanas contemplando la naturaleza virgen. En los periódicos se ha escrito mucho sobre los que han tratado de encontrar dichos tesoros, ellos andan con la certeza de que algún día descifrarán el misterio.

El historiador cubano Pedro Manuel De Celis también ha participado en varias expediciones, cuatro, para ser exactos. Siempre han buscado entre la zona de Cabo Corrientes y María la Gorda, y según declaró a la prensa: “Hemos llegado a estar más de una semana, con todo tipo de medios: equipamiento para detectar metales, GPS y no ha aparecido (…) Pero nadie pue¬de afirmar rotundamente que no exista el tesoro. Primero habría que preguntarse si lo hemos estado buscando en el lugar correcto”.

Hace algún tiempo, especialistas cubanos y canadienses emprendieron ese camino y las exploraciones marítimas confirmaron que existen más de 200 embarcaciones hundidas. El barco menos profundo está sumergido a 600 metros.

Sin embargo, a pesar de los datos irrefutables y de las miles de expediciones, la gente sigue tras el tesoro de la Catedral de Mérida. Tal vez por el irresistible encanto de aquellas playas y el aire puro de la vegetación.

Más de tres siglos después, todavía no sabemos si realmente sucedió aquella expedición desde México hasta la península. A fin de cuentas, Guanahacabibes es un lugar perfecto para esconder tesoros y un espacio mágico para ir tras ellos.

Since then centuries have passed and nobody knows where the supposed papers are, or where the burial took place. Even so, the adventurers follow behind the tracks because, after all, Guanahacabibes is a splendid place for that: to get lost in the mountains and to spend weeks and weeks contemplating the virgin nature. Much has been written in the newspapers about those who have tried to find such treasures, they walk with the certainty that someday they will decipher the mystery.

Cuban historian Pedro Manuel De Celis has also participated in several expeditions, four, to be exact. They have always searched between the area of ​​Cabo Corrientes and María la Gorda, and as she told the press: “We have been more than a week, with all kinds of equipment: equipment to detect metals, GPS and has not appeared …” But no one can say conclusively that the treasure does not exist. First we would have to ask ourselves if we have been looking for it in the right place. ”

More than three centuries later, we still do not know if this expedition from Mexico to the peninsula actually happened. After all, Guanahacabibes is a perfect place to hide treasures and a magical space to go after them.
