LOS ANGELES- El Departamento de Seguridad Nacional (DHS) precisó este viernes que la designación del Estatus de Protección Temporal (TPS) de 2021 finalizará el próximo 7 de noviembre y pidió a los beneficiados “prepararse” para retornar a su país si no tienen otra base legal para permanecer en Estados Unidos.
Con esta decisión, unos 267.000 venezolanos, cuyo amparo vencía inicialmente el 10 de septiembre, ganaron un pequeño respiro gracias al plazo adicional fijado por la normativa, porque la ley exige que el Ejecutivo comunique con al menos 60 días de antelación la terminación del TPS, a fin de que los beneficiados tengan opciones para no quedar de manera irregular en el país.
“Si usted es extranjero y actualmente es beneficiario del TPS para Venezuela bajo la designación de 2021, debe prepararse para regresar a Venezuela si no tiene otra base legal para permanecer en Estados Unidos”, resaltó este viernes en un comunicado el Servicio de Inmigración y Ciudadanía (USCIS, en inglés).
El Gobierno estadounidense invitó a los venezolanos afectados con la terminación del beneficio migratorio a usar la aplicación CBP Home si pretenden salir de Estados Unidos.
La esperanza de quedarse de los inmigrantes está en manos de un juez federal de California que evalúa una demanda presentada por un grupo de venezolanos afectados y la Alianza TPS, en la que alegan que la terminación del amparo por parte del Gobierno del presidente Donald Trump es ilegal.
La querella legal busca proteger a dos grupos de venezolanos amparados por el TPS otorgado por el expresidente Joe Biden, los de 2021, unos 250.000, y los beneficiarios de la extensión de 2023, unos 350.000.

The immigrants’ hope of staying is in the hands of a federal judge in California, who is reviewing a lawsuit filed by a group of affected Venezuelans and the TPS Alliance, alleging that the Trump administration’s termination of TPS is illegal.

WASHINGTON- La Administración de Donald Trump anunció la prórroga hasta al 14 de septiembre de 2026 de las normas legales que permiten las exportaciones de EEUU a Cuba, a las que calificó como “de interés nacional” para su Gobierno.
Según un memorando de la Casa Blanca con fecha del 29 de agosto, enviado a los jefes del Departamento de Estado y del Tesoro estadounidenses, y hecho oficial con su publicación en el Registro federal el jueves 4 de septiembre, se autoriza la “continuación del ejercicio de ciertas autoridades en virtud de la Ley de Comercio con el Enemigo”.
Señala el documento que “el ejercicio de ciertas facultades en virtud de la Ley de Comercio con el Enemigo está programado para expirar el 14 de septiembre de 2025”, por lo que la Administración Trump decidió “la continuación del ejercicio de esas facultades con respecto a Cuba durante un año”.
Indica el memorando, firmado por Trump, que la continuidad de esa política “es de interés nacional de los Estados Unidos”.
“Por lo tanto, de acuerdo con la autoridad que me confiere la sección 101 (b) de la Ley Pública 95-223, continúo durante un año, hasta el 14 de septiembre de 2026, el ejercicio de esas autoridades con respecto a Cuba, según lo implementado por las Regulaciones de Control de Activos Cubanos, 31 CFR Parte 515”, finaliza.
LAS VENTAS DE EEUU A CUBA
Las excepciones al embargo de Washington contra La Habana que permitieron las ventas de alimentos y productos agrícolas fueron aprobadas en el año 2000 por la Administración de George W. Bush. Fidel Castro las rechazó inicialmente, pero su régimen hizo las primeras adquisiciones en su vecino del norte en diciembre de 2001. Durante la Administración Obama, estas se incrementaron.
Desde esa fecha hasta la actualidad, La Habana ha adquirido cifras millonarias de productos que hoy incluyen automóviles, equipamiento industrial y tecnológico, materiales de construcción, materias primas para su industria farmacéutica, productos médicos y un sinnúmero de rubros.
Asimismo, EEUU es el mayor suministrador de carne de pollo a Cuba, el principal cárnico al que tienen acceso los cubanos de la Isla, y que en cierta cantidad se vende en dólares en las tiendas del Gobierno. Si bien muchas de esas compras son pedidos de las MIPYMES no estatales, todas las importaciones se tramitan a través de entidades estatales o empresas con vínculos con La Habana autorizadas para esa actividad.
Desde que hizo las primeras compras bajo esas normas, el régimen ha gastado en EEUU más de 7.923.924.591 dólares. Solo entre abril y mayo últimos, la cifra de adquisiciones cubanas en su vecino del norte rozó los 205 millones de dólares.
RECONOCIMIENTO DE “NO BLOQUEO”
En agosto último, la Oficina de Asuntos del Hemisferio Occidental del Departamento de Estado de Estados Unidos señaló que los funcionarios del régimen de Cuba han acabado por reconocer que su narrativa sobre el “bloqueo” de Washington contra La Habana no se sostiene, luego de declaraciones de Johana Tablada, recién nombrada embajadora, y el primer ministro, Manuel Marrero.
“Los funcionarios del régimen cubano ahora están admitiendo abiertamente lo que siempre hemos sabido: no hay ‘bloqueo'”, indicó en X la entidad federal.
“Un títere de la dictadura reconoció que Cuba ‘puede comprar todo el pollo que quiera a Estados Unidos’ y otro se jactó de convertir a Cuba en un centro logístico global. La verdad es innegable: es el régimen el que está frenando al país. Es hora de libertades económicas reales para el pueblo cubano y no para las empresas dirigidas por los servicios de seguridad”, finalizó.
Tablada, que durante varios años ha sido la responsable para EEUU del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores (MINREX) cubano, reconoció en una entrevista para un sitio oficialista algo que ya La Habana no puede negar, dada su creciente dependencia del vecino del norte para sus importaciones de alimentos.
“En la calle te dicen que no hay bloqueo porque Cuba puede comprar todo el pollo que quiera en Estados Unidos, y yo te diría: es verdad, Cuba puede comprar todo el pollo que quiera en Estados Unidos”, comentó la funcionaria, que a continuación lanzó las habituales quejas del régimen sobre la cuestión.
Según Tablada, las compras millonarias en EEUU suponen condiciones onerosas, son limitadas y exigen el pago anticipado, algo que también hace La Habana con sus compras de huevo en Colombia sin que ningún funcionario de la Isla se haya quejado.
Pese a todo lo anterior, tanto la cúpula gobernante como sus medios siguen culpando de las privaciones que sufren los cubanos al embargo de Washington contra La Habana.

WASHINGTON—The Donald Trump administration announced the extension until September 14, 2026, of the legal regulations permitting US exports to Cuba, which it described as “in the national interest” of his government.
According to a White House memorandum dated August 29, sent to the heads of the US Departments of State and Treasury, and made official with its publication in the Federal Register on Thursday, September 4, the authorization is granted for “the continued exercise of certain authorities under the Trading with the Enemy Act.”
The document states that “the exercise of certain powers under the Trading with the Enemy Act is scheduled to expire on September 14, 2025,” so the Trump Administration decided to “continue the exercise of those powers with respect to Cuba for one year.”
The memorandum, signed by Trump, states that the continuation of that policy “is in the national interest of the United States.”
“Therefore, pursuant to the authority vested in me by section 101(b) of Public Law 95-223, I continue for one year, through September 14, 2026, the exercise of those authorities with respect to Cuba, as implemented by the Cuban Assets Control Regulations, 31 CFR Part 515,” it concludes.
US SALES TO CUBA
The exceptions to Washington’s embargo against Havana that allowed the sale of food and agricultural products were approved in 2000 by the George W. Bush Administration. Fidel Castro initially rejected them, but his regime made its first purchases from its northern neighbor in December 2001. These purchases increased during the Obama Administration.
Since then, Havana has purchased millions of dollars in products that today include automobiles, industrial and technological equipment, construction materials, raw materials for its pharmaceutical industry, medical products, and countless other items.
The US is also Cuba’s largest supplier of chicken meat, the main meat product available to Cubans on the island, and a certain amount of it is sold in dollars in government stores. While many of these purchases are orders from non-state MSMEs, all imports are processed through state entities or companies with ties to Havana that are authorized for this activity.
Since making its first purchases under these rules, the regime has spent more than $7,923,924,591 in the United States. Between April and May alone, the figure for Cuban purchases in its northern neighbor reached nearly $205 million.
RECOGNITION OF “NO BLOCKADE”
Last August, the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs stated that Cuban regime officials have finally acknowledged that their narrative about Washington’s “blockade” against Havana does not hold water, following statements by Johana Tablada, the newly appointed ambassador, and Prime Minister Manuel Marrero.
“Cuban regime officials are now openly admitting what we’ve always known: there is no ‘blockade,'” the federal entity reported on X.
“One dictatorship puppet acknowledged that Cuba ‘can buy all the chicken it wants from the United States,’ and another boasted about turning Cuba into a global logistics hub. The truth is undeniable: it is the regime that is holding the country back. It is time for real economic freedoms for the Cuban people, not for companies run by the security services,” she concluded.
Tablada, who for several years has been the US official at the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX), acknowledged in an interview with a pro-government website something that Havana can no longer deny, given its growing dependence on its northern neighbor for its food imports.
“On the street, they tell you there’s no blockade because Cuba can buy all the chicken it wants in the United States, and I would tell you: it’s true, Cuba can buy all the chicken it wants in the United States,” the official commented, who then launched into the regime’s usual complaints on the matter.
According to Tablada, multimillion-dollar purchases in the US come with onerous conditions, are limited, and require advance payment, something Havana also does with its egg purchases from Colombia, without any Cuban official complaining.
Despite all of the above, both the ruling elite and its media continue to blame the hardships suffered by Cubans on Washington’s embargo against Havana.
