En Cuba, la empanada probablemente fue introducida por los españoles y se le dio un sabor isleño con un toque de cítricos, ajo, cebolla y pimienta. Muchas familias cubanas hacen empanadas para ocasiones especiales como cumpleaños, bautizos, días festivos, cualquier ocasión que tenga asociada una fiesta.
Hoy les daremos la receta para hacer Empanadas a la Cubana… En otras regiones de la isla también se les llama “Empanadillas”. “Empanar” significa cubrir con pan rallado. Las empanadas son pasteles rellenos de carne, mariscos, queso, etc. ¡Parece que todos en Miami tienen una receta de empanadas diferente!. Algunos se hornean y otros se fríen. También hay varios tipos diferentes, cada uno un poco diferente: cubano, colombiano, argentino, nicaragüense… ¡y los rellenos! ¡Hay muchas, muchas cosas que puedes poner en una empanada! Cuñas crujientes y escamosas de hojaldre rodean un relleno de jamón, carne de res, pollo y más.
MASA RECETA 1 (Al Horno)
INGREDIENTES:
1 1/2 tazas de harina para todo uso 1/2 cucharadita de sal 1 cucharadita de polvo de hornear 1 cucharada de azúcar 8 onzas de queso crema, ablandado 1 barra de mantequilla, ablandada 1 huevo grande batido ligeramente con 1/4 t. agua (para el glaseado)
Para preparar las empanadas cubanas hay que empezar con la masa que se prepara de la siguiente manera:
Tamizar la harina y el polvo de hornear. Coloque la mantequilla, la mantequilla, el azúcar, la sal, la canela y los huevos batidos. Amasar durante 10 minutos todos los ingredientes puestos. Se estira la masa con un rodillo y se deja reposar dos horas mínimo. Una vez lista la masa cortar en las porciones deseadas.
Una vez lista la masa preparar el relleno que se prepara de la siguiente manera:
En una sartén se deben freír juntos el ajo, la cebolla picada y el pimiento picado. El nivel de aceite debe ser bajo y se debe dejar hasta que los ingredientes estén dorados. Luego se debe agregar la carne y la sal cocinándola con un fuego más fuerte.
Una vez listo el relleno, se pueden rellenar las porciones de masa previamente cortadas. La masa debe quedar sellada con el relleno por dentro.
Finalmente se deben freír las empanadas hasta que estén doradas al fuego.
Todo el proceso puede tomar hasta tres horas pero después tendrán unas excelentes empanadas cubanas.

Some are baked and some are fried. There’s also several different types, each a little bit different — Cuban, Colombian, Argentinean, Nicaraguan…and the fillings! DOUGH RECIPE 1 (Baked)
INGREDIENTS:
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 tablespoon sugar 8 ounces cream cheese, softened 1 stick butter, softened 1 large egg beaten lightly with 1/4 t. water (for glaze)
To prepare the Cuban empanadas you have to start with the dough that is prepared as follows:
Sift flour and baking powder. Place butter, butter, sugar, salt, cinnamon, and beaten eggs. Knead for 10 minutes all the ingredients put. The dough is stretched with a roller and let stand for two hours minimum. Once the dough is ready cut into the desired portions.
Once the dough is ready to prepare the filling that is prepared as follows:
In a pan should be fried together garlic, chopped onion and chopped pepper. The oil level should be low and should be left until the ingredients are golden. Then the meat and salt must be added by cooking it with a stronger fire.
Once the filling is ready, the previously cut dough portions can be filled. The dough should be sealed with the filling on the inside.
Finally the empanada should be fried until they are golden brown by the fire.
The whole process can take up to three hours but afterwards they will have excellent Cuban empanadas.
