EL VALLE DE VIÑALES, UN REAL Y NATURAL MONUMENTO NACIONAL CUBANO.

El valle de Viñales es una depresión kárstica en Cuba. El valle tiene una superficie de 132 km2 (51 millas cuadradas) y se encuentra en la Sierra de los Órganos (parte de la cordillera Guaniguanico), justo al norte de Viñales en la provincia de Pinar del Río. El Valle de Viñales es un accidente geográfico que tiene para sí toda la gama de colores con una belleza natural magestuosa.

En el período Jurásico este territorio estuvo compuesto por mar, deltas y llanuras del desaparecido continente, teniendo como elementos básicos de la geología local las piedras calizas, donde se encuentran abundantes fósiles de ammonites, peces y exquistos fósiles del dinosaurio terrestre “Diplodocus” y el reptil marino “Ichthyosaurus”.

El tabaco y otros cultivos se cultivan en el fondo del valle, principalmente mediante técnicas agrícolas tradicionales. Muchas cuevas salpican las colinas circundantes (Cueva del Indio, Cueva de José Miguel).

Los llamativos acantilados de piedra caliza que se elevan como islas desde el fondo del valle se llaman mogotes. Pueden tener hasta 300 m de altura. Estos mogotes se parecen a una gran diversidad de formas porque solo son comparables con los ubicados en China y la península de Malaca.

En el valle, hay otras elevaciones, como Alturas de Pizarras, que están formadas por una variedad de rocas, las más antiguas que existen en todo el país y también en el área del Caribe.

Como sello distintivo del lugar está el Mural de la Prehistoria, en el propio Valle, obra del pintor cubano Leovigildo González, ya fallecido, que recrea las distintas etapas evolutivas de la humanidad, sobre una pared de uno de los mogotes.

Conservación
Muchas plantas y animales endémicos son específicos de este valle. La flora encontrada en la región incluye Bombax emarginatum, palma de montaña (Gaussia princeps), Ekmanianthe actinophilla y Microcycas calocoma. La fauna incluye el colibrí (Mellisuga helenae, zunzún), el trogon cubano (Priotelus temnurus), el tody cubano (Todus multicolor), el solitario cubano (Myadestes elisabeth) y el chinche cubano (Tiaris canorus).

La complicidad entre la naturaleza y el silencio se halla por todas partes, con su río subterráneo, el Rancho San Vicente y el fabuloso Mirador de Los Jazmines.

El poblado de Viñales, ubicado en el valle, conserva el tradicional escenario de un asentamiento de agricultores, representado por su calle principal, galerías de columnas a sus lados y casas de tejas rojas que favorecen sus condiciones climáticas, dándole una apariencia singular y agradable.

EL Valle de Viñales es un real Monumento Nacional y la Unesco le otorgó también la categoría de Paisaje Cultural de la Humanidad.

The Viñales valley is a karst depression in Cuba. The valley covers an area of 132 km2 (51 square miles) and is located in the Sierra de Los Órganos (part of the Guaniguanico mountain range), just north of Viñales in the province of Pinar del Río. The Viñales Valley is a geographical accident that has for itself the full range of colors with a natural beauty majestic.

In the Jurassic period this territory was composed of the sea, deltas, and plains of the disappeared continent, having limestone stones as basic elements of the local geology, where there are abundant fossils of ammonites, fish and exquisite fossils of the terrestrial dinosaur “Diplodocus” and the marine reptile “Ichthyosaurus”.

Tobacco and other crops are grown at the bottom of the valley, mainly through traditional agricultural techniques. Many caves dot the surrounding hills (Cueva del Indio, Cave of José Miguel).

The striking limestone cliffs that rise like islands from the bottom of the valley are called mogotes. They can be up to 300 m high. These mogotes resemble a great diversity of forms because they are only comparable with those located in China and the Malacca peninsula.

In the valley, there are other elevations, such as Pizarras Heights, which are formed by a variety of rocks, the oldest that exists throughout the country and also in the Caribbean area.

As a hallmark of the place is the Mural of Prehistory, in the Valley itself, the work of Cuban painter Leovigildo González, already deceased, who recreates the different evolutionary stages of humanity, on a wall of one of the mogotes.

Conservation
Many endemic plants and animals are specific to this valley. The flora found in the region includes Bombax emarginatum, mountain palm (Gaussia princeps), Ekmanianthe actinophilla and Microcycas calocoma. The fauna includes the hummingbird (Mellisuga helenae, zunzún), the Cuban trogon (Priotelus temnurus), the Cuban tody (Todus multicolor), the Cuban solitaire (Myadestes elisabeth) and the Cuban bed bug (Tiaris canorus).

The complicity between nature and silence is everywhere, with its underground river, Rancho San Vicente and the fabulous Mirador de Los Jazmines.

The town of Viñales, located in the valley, preserves the traditional setting of a farmers’ settlement, represented by its main street, column galleries on its sides and red-tiled houses that favor its climatic conditions, giving it a unique and pleasant appearance.

The Viñales Valley is a real National Monument and Unesco also awarded in the category of Cultural Landscape of Humanity.

Bartolomé Maximiliano Moré Gutiérrez, nació un 24 de Agosto de 1919 y nos dejó hace ya 57 años un 19 de Febrero de 1963. Apodado El Barbaro del Ritmo y Sonero Mayor de Cuba aunque se apago para siempre materialmente para todos los cubanos siempre Hoy como Ayer suena mejor que nunca. Sus canciones han recorrido medio mundo, la obra y gracia del genio vive en sus inigualables creaciones.

No sabía leer música, pero tocaba la guitarra y el tres y sabía, como ninguno, dirigir a sus músicos. Poseía las condiciones innatas de un genio.

Los cubanos de varias generaciones y los públicos de escenarios en México, Venezuela, Estados Unidos, Panamá y Colombia, entre otros, los recuerdan por su calidad y estilo propio cantando boleros, guarachas, y sones montunos, situándolo en la cima de nuestros cantantes populares.

Desinhibido y de una personalidad original, auténtico cubano, acompañado siempre con su bastón, sombrero y anchos pantalones de tirantes, dirigió su orquesta como el músico de cuerpo entero que era.

Versátil y controvertido trascendió las fronteras nacionales de la mano de piezas como “Bonito y sabroso”, “Dolor y perdón”, “Maracaibo” y “Castellanos que bueno baila usted”.

Dueño de una afinada voz de tenor y gran magnetismo personal, el Benny, poseía cualidades de improvisador y una humildad a toda prueba que caló en el corazón de sus contemporáneos.

Ya famoso, declaró en una ocasión: “Lo que sucede es que me abruma la fama y hasta el dinero. Como nada de eso me enloquece, no acepto coqueteos con la gloria. Más bien los rechazo”.

Impuso Benny Moré una personalidad original siempre acompañado con su bastón, sombrero y anchos pantalones de tirantes, dirigiendo su orquesta con todo el cuerpo.

Muchos músicos dentro y fuera de Cuba plantean que lo que cantara el Benny, prácticamente no lo podía cantar nadie más.

Para la posteridad quedan los boleros interpretados en años de la década del cincuenta: “No me vayas a engañar” de Osvaldo Farrés; “Por ser como tú eres” de José Badán Slater, y “Cómo fue”, de Ernesto Duarte; y asimismo los sones montunos “Adiós, Palma Soriano”, de Ramón Cabrera, y “Bombón de pollo”, de su compadre Enrique Benítez.

Con el destacado tenor mexicano Pedro Vargas vocalizó el Benny los boleros Perdón y Obsesión, del puertorriqueño Pedro Flores, Solamente una vez, del mexicano Agustín Lara y La vida es un sueño del cubano Arsenio Rodríguez.

En el transcurso de su corta e intensa vida el Benny unió su voz y su talento a la de relevantes músicos y cantantes dentro y fuera del país. Su última actuación con su Banda Gigante fue en el pueblo de Palmira, Las Villas, el día 16 de febrero de 1963. Tres días despúes murió a la temprana edad de cuarenta y tres años.

Los dioses mueren jóvenes, escribió al evocarlo en aquellas circunstancias Nicolás Guillén. Y agregó: Pero lo seguimos teniendo con nosotros, derramando en los cuatro vientos de la Isla.

Benny Moré supo interpretar a la perfección las combinaciones armónicas y formas musicales y dió al pueblo lo mejor de su arte.

Benny More Sings “Saoco”.

ESTADOS UNIDOS LIMITARÁ VUELOS “CHARTERS” A CUBA ENTRE 2020-21

Los vuelos fletados desde Estados Unidos a Cuba serán operados mayormente por las compañías Swift Air y World Atlantic, y quedarán sujetos a un estricto reglamento de operaciones aéreas que entrará en vigor el próximo marzo, según un documento del Departamento de Transporte (DOT) obtenido por la Pagina Web CiberCuba.

La orden emitida por el DOT establece los nuevos procedimientos que regirán el negocio de los vuelos chárter a Cuba, y que desde el 10 de marzo quedarán restringidos a un único destino: el Aeropuerto Internacional “José Martí” de La Habana. La decisión se suma a la política de recrudecimiento de sanciones contra el régimen cubano por parte de la administración Trump, que desde diciembre había cancelado los vuelos regulares de aerolíneas estadounidenses a nueve aeropuertos del interior de la isla.

En un documento de 10 páginas, el DOT dispuso la concesión inicial del 75 % de los vuelos chárter autorizados a Swift Air y World Atlantic (también identificada como Caribbean Sun Airlines), e instituir a la vez un fondo común para la distribución del resto de los vuelos -por orden de inscripción- a otras compañías transportistas interesadas.

Swift Air ofrecerá sus servicios a las compañías operadoras Aerocuba, Cubazul, HavanaAir y Xael Charters para vuelos desde los aeropuertos de Miami, Fort Myers y Tampa; World Atlantic fletará sus aviones a Anmart Superior Travel para viajes desde Miami y Tampa.

Hasta la fecha de emisión de la orden, el pasado 29 de enero, las autoridades del DOT habían aceptado la propuesta de 2,654 vuelos chárter públicos de ida y vuelta entre Estados Unidos y La Habana, programados del 1 de marzo de 2020 al 31 de enero de 2021. De ellos 2,299 serían operados por Swift Air y 355 por World Atlantic.

El DOT ha fijado un límite de hasta 3,600 vuelos chárter de ida y vuelta a La Habana para el año, basándose en las prospecciones aceptadas durante 2019, aunque no significa que esa cantidad de viajes vaya a realizarse. El organismo federal tiene fijado el año oficial chárter 2020/2021 a partir del 1 de marzo.

El documento regulatorio, con carácter preliminar, fue enviado a las compañías aéreas y las agencias de vuelos chárter para que hicieran sus comentarios y sugerencias antes de que el DOT emita una resolución final, prevista para fines de este mes.

El funcionario agregó que como el DOT se reserva el derecho a modificar el enfoque en las regulaciones de los vuelos chárter a Cuba y a adoptar los procedimientos que sean necesarios para tomar las decisiones de asignación.

El DOT decidió delegar provisionalmente en el Director de la Oficina de Aviación Internacional la facultad de administrar la distribución del fondo de reserva de vuelos chárter propuestos.

“Son regulaciones bien estrictas y el proceso será más complicado a partir de ahora”, dijo a CiberCuba un empresario de vuelos chárter en Miami. El empresario, que pidió no ser identificado, dijo que no prevé un incremento significativo en los costos de los pasajes a La Habana.

El negocio de los chárter ocupaba alrededor del 30 por ciento de las operaciones comerciales hacia Cuba hasta el pasado año, con una frecuencia de 69 vuelos semanales. Luego de producirse la restricción de los vuelos regulares a provincias, las compañías charteadoras reanimaron sus servicios e incrementaron sus ofertas en un 25 porciento.

Pero la suspensión de los vuelos a provincias podría aumentar la demanda de boletos a La Habana.

De hecho, American Airlines está pidiendo ocupar el itinerario de 14 vuelos regulares a La Habana que dejará vacante la aerolínea Jet Blue desde el 29 de abril. La solicitud, que otorgaría a American Airlines ocho vuelos diarios de ida y vuelta a la capital cubana, está aún pendiente de una decisión del DOT.

Las operadoras de vuelos chárter ofrecen gratis las primeras 44 libras y cobran entre un dólar o dos por libra en exceso de equipaje. El incentivo para los pasajeros que utilizan este servicio es poder transportar un mayor volumen de equipaje del que es permitido en los vuelos regulares.

Chartered flights from the United States to Cuba will be operated mostly by the Swift Air and World Atlantic companies and will be subject to a strict air operations regulation that will take effect next March, according to a document from the Department of Transportation (DOT) obtained by the CiberCuba Website.

The order issued by the DOT establishes the new procedures that will govern the business of charter flights to Cuba, and that from March 10 will be restricted to a single destination: the “José Martí” International Airport in Havana. The decision adds to the policy of resurgence of sanctions against the Cuban regime by the Trump administration, which since December had canceled regular flights of US airlines to nine airports inside the island.

In a 10-page document, DOT provided for the initial concession of 75% of authorized charter flights to Swift Air and World Atlantic (also identified as Caribbean Sun Airlines), and at the same time establishing a common fund for the distribution of the rest of the flights -in order of registration- to other interested transport companies.

Swift Air will offer its services to the operating companies Aerocuba, Cubazul, HavanaAir, and Xael Charters for flights from Miami, Fort Myers, and Tampa airports; World Atlantic will charter its planes to Anmart Superior Travel for trips from Miami and Tampa.

As of the date of issuance of the order, on January 29, the DOT authorities had accepted the proposal of 2,654 round-trip public charter flights between the United States and Havana, scheduled from March 1, 2020, to January 31, 2021. “They are very strict regulations and the process will be more complicated from now on,” a charter entrepreneur in Miami told CiberCuba. The businessman, who asked not to be identified, said he does not foresee a significant increase in the cost of tickets to Havana.

The charter business occupied about 30 percent of commercial operations to Cuba until last year, with a frequency of 69 weekly flights. After the restriction of regular flights to provinces, the charter companies revived their services and increased their offers by 25 percent.

But the suspension of flights to provinces could increase the demand for tickets to Havana.

In fact, American Airlines is asking to fill the itinerary of 14 regular flights to Havana that will leave the Jet Blue airline vacant from April 29. The request, which would grant American Airlines eight daily round-trip flights to the Cuban capital, is still pending a DOT decision.

The charter operators offer the first 44 pounds for free and charge between a dollar or two per pound in excess of luggage. The incentive for passengers who use this service is to be able to transport a larger volume of luggage than is allowed on regular flights.
