It was called Internet Task Force for Cuba and will seek to promote the flow of information on the island without it being regulated. The Cuban newspaper Granma considers it a “subversive” initiative.
The US Department of State announced on Tuesday the creation of a working group to promote “the flow of free and unregulated information” in Cuba, which they called the Internet Task Force and which was rejected in a publication of the official newspaper Granma.
The group would be made up of representatives of the US government and nongovernmental organizations that “will examine the technological challenges and opportunities to expand Internet access and independent media in Cuba,” the statement said on its website. Until now, Cuba has not allowed US companies to participate in the wiring of the country to improve navigation in the network
that in any country of the world is considered a modern way of knowing all necessary information around the globe.
The Granma newspaper published the Cuban government’s response to this announcement, saying that this force was created to “subvert internal order in Cuba.”
“In the past, phrases such as ‘working for freedom of expression’ and ‘expanding Internet access in Cuba’ have been used by Washington to mask destabilizing plans with the use of new technologies,” adds the newspaper that lists 2017 as the year of the “boom in the expansion of access to the network in our country”, by ensuring that 40% of Cubans connected to the Internet in that time, 37% more than in 2010.
Cuba has created areas with Wi-Fi access and increased access to the Internet, but most Cubans still can not connect to the network from their cell phones and few have broadband.
The $ 1.50 per hour rate for using a Wi-Fi hotspot on the island represents 5% of the state’s average monthly salary at $ 30.

El Departamento de Estado de EEUU anunció este martes la conformación de un grupo de trabajo para promover “el flujo de información libre y no regulado” en Cuba al que llamaron Fuerza de Tarea de Internet y que fue rechazado en una publicación del diario oficial Granma.
El grupo estaría conformado por representantes del gobierno estadounidense y no gubernamentales que “examinarán los desafíos tecnológicos y las oportunidades para expandir el acceso a internet y a medios independientes en Cuba”, se lee en un comunicado publicado en su sitio web. Hasta ahora, Cuba no ha permitido que las empresas estadounidenses participen en el cableado del país para mejorar la navegación en la red
que en cualquier pais del mundo se considera una forma moderna de conocer toda informacion necesaria alrededor del globo.
El diario Granma publicó la respuesta del gobierno cubano a este anuncio, al asegurar que esta fuerza fue creada para “subvertir el orden interno en Cuba”.
“En el pasado, frases como ‘trabajar por la libertad de expresión’ y ‘expandir el acceso a internet en Cuba’ han sido utilizadas por Washington para enmascarar planes desestabilizadores con el uso de las nuevas tecnologías”, agrega el diario que cataloga a 2017 como el año del “boom de la expansión del acceso a la red en nuestro país”, al asegurar que 40% de los cubanos se conectaron a Internet en ese tiempo, 37% más que en 2010.
Cuba ha creado zonas con acceso a Wi-Fi y ha aumentado el acceso a Internet, pero la mayoría de los cubanos sigue sin poder conectarse a la red desde sus celulares y son pocos los que tienen banda ancha.
La tarifa de 1.50 dólares por hora para usar un punto de conexión Wi-Fi en la isla representa el 5% del salario promedio mensual del estado ubicado en 30 dólares.
