ESTADOS UNIDOS CONCEDE PERMISO PARA TELEFONÍA CELULAR EN CUBA.
La Comisión Federal de Comunicaciones de Estados Unidos otorgó los permisos legales a Telco Cuba para proporcionar servicios de telecomunicaciones a cualquier lugar del mundo incluida Cuba.
La compañía pretende dotar de telefonía celular móvil, voz sobre IP (VoIP) así como servicios de tarjetas de llamadas procedentes de Estados Unidos a los 11 millones de residentes de la isla, según ha dado a conocer en un comunicado.
El presidente de la empresa, William J. Sánchez, dijo al respecto que “este hito ofrece a Telco Cuba la posibilidad de iniciar de inmediato sus servicios a la espera de resultados tras las negociaciones con un operador virtual móvil líder de la red (OMV) en los Estados Unidos”.
Semanas antes, Sánchez había dicho que están “a la vanguardia de trascender una nueva frontera en las telecomunicaciones. El mercado cubano tiene una población de 11 millones, 1 de cada 6 tiene un dispositivo de comunicación”.
También indicó entonces que “Cuba es el mayor mercado sin explotar en nuestro hemisferio. Además, hay millones de cubanoamericanos que viven en Estados Unidos que buscan un menor coste y soluciones de conectividad más fácil con los más de 11 millones en la isla”.
Durante este proceso, Telco Cuba también había llegado a un acuerdo con la compañía española Disashop para instalar diversos puntos de venta donde se podrá adquirir tarjetas telefónicas, tarjetas SIM y recargar el teléfono celular en Estados Unidos, Europa, sur y Centroamérica y Cuba.
