The renowned Cuban actor and director Andy Garcia is the voice that tells the new documentary in English “Cuba: From Columbus to Castro,” which addresses the history of the Caribbean island informative tone, reported the University of Miami (UM).

Suchlicki said the film, 26 minutes long, is not aimed at experts in the field, but especially the younger Cuban interested in the cultural wealth of their country of origin.
For its realization has been used photographic and archival footage and between historical characters who appear in the documentary Figure Carlos Manuel Céspedes (Bayamo, 1819-1874), who owned a sugar plantation and took up arms against the rule Spanish.
Dr. Carlos Finlay, a pioneering scientist in the investigation of yellow fever, and the hero and Cuban writer José Martí also appears.
The documentary begins with the discovery of the island by Christopher Columbus and incorporates early chronicles the life of the natives and the early years of the republic, with focus on Cuban outstanding figures.
The tape also includes the advent of the revolution of Fidel Castro and the subsequent entry of Cuba into the path of communism and concludes with an assessment of the current state of the island, the statement said.

El reconocido actor y director cubano Andy García es la voz que narra el nuevo documental en inglés “Cuba: From Columbus to Castro”, que aborda la historia de la isla caribeña en tono divulgativo, informó hoy la Universidad de Miami (UM).
Producido por el Instituto de Estudios Cubanos y Cubanoamericanos (ICCAS) de la UM, el vídeo con fines educativos se distribuye en las escuelas de la ciudad y supone un “gran regalo para cualquiera que busque una introducción a la historia de Cuba”, explicó en un comunicado Jaime Suchlicki, director del ICCAS.
Suchlicki precisó que la cinta, de 26 minutos de duración, no está dirigida a expertos en la materia, sino sobre todo a los jóvenes cubanoamericanos interesados en el acerbo cultural de su país de origen.
Para su realización se ha utilizado material fotográfico y metraje de archivo y entre los personajes históricos que aparecen en el documental figura Carlos Manuel Céspedes (Bayamo, 1819-1874), quien fue dueño de una plantación de caña y se levantó en armas contra el dominio español.
Aparece además el médico Carlos Finlay, un científico pionero en la investigación de la fiebre amarilla, y el héroe y escritor cubano José Martí.
El documental comienza con el descubrimiento de la isla por Cristóbal Colón e incorpora crónicas tempranas de la vida de los nativos y los primeros años de la república, con especial atención a figuras señeras cubanas.
En la cinta se recoge también el advenimiento de la revolución de Fidel Castro y la subsiguiente entrada de Cuba en la senda del comunismo y concluye con una valoración del estado actual de la isla, señaló el comunicado.
