El ex viceministro primero del Interior Pascual Martínez Gil, quien ostentó grados de general de división, murió de un infarto en el Hospital CIMEQ de La Habana.
La noticia del deceso de Martínez Gil, alias Pascualito, de 72 años, ocurrió la pasada semana y fue confirmada por vía de fuentes familiares y amigos en Cuba. Había sufrido de otro ataque cardíaco con anterioridad y su salud se había debilitado.

Martínez Gil fue condenado a 12 años de cárcel en la llamada Causa No. 2 de 1989, en la que fue encausado su jefe superior y amigo cercano, el General José Abrantes, quien recibió una sentencia de 20 años y murió en la Prisión de Guanajay en enero de 1991.
Cumplió también su condena en Guanajay junto a otros altos oficiales del Ministerio del Interior (MININT) enjuiciados en el mismo proceso, que constituyó una farsa judicial para presentar a chivos expiatorios que borraran la responsabilidad de Fidel y Raúl Castro en turbios negocios de corrupción y narcotráfico. La Causa No. 2 siguió a la Causa No.1, que concluyó con el fusilamiento del General Arnaldo Ochoa, el coronel Antonio de la Guardia y otros dos militares.
Fue jefe de Tropas Especiales del MININT y cumplió misiones internacionalistas en Africa. Combatió en Angola, donde incluso resultó herido. Durante el juicio, quedó fijado en muchos su declaración de arrepentimiento: “”La mayor condena es no poder volver a estrechar la mano del Comandante en Jefe”.

Por entonces circularon versiones sobre su colaboración con las autoridades en el proceso judicial, distanciándose de Abrantes, lo que le valió para una sentencia menos severa. Pero la realidad es que nada le valió su “compromiso revolucionario”, pues Fidel Castro terminó sacrificándolo como una pieza más para sacudirse las evidencias que apuntaban a la máxima cúpula gubernamental del país.
Después de salir de prisión, Pascual se dedicó a actividades civiles muy alejadas del trabajo que habia desempeñado toda su vida. Primero tuvo el negocio de una paladar que al decir de algunos clientes, entre ellos conocidos mutuos, era una de las mejores en La Habana.
Tiempo después me lo encontré en la ESPCOM (Empresa de Seguridad y Protección del Ministerio de la Construcción), situada en las calles Tulipán y Ayuntamiento, en el municipio Plaza de la Revolución. Me dijo que se encontraba trabajando en una empresa extranjera radicada en Cuba.
A pesar de sus servicios inestimables a Fidel Castro y a la revolución que ayudó a triunfar, Martínez Gil terminó sus días como una víctima de un proceso que, como Saturno, ha terminado devorando a casi todos sus hijos.
*Juan Reynaldo Sánchez, autor de este articulo fue escolta personal de Fidel Castro entre 1968 y 1994, con grados de teniente coronel. Fue destituido y cumplió prisión en Cuba. DIES IN HAVANA EX GENERAL SENTENCED TO PRISON IN 1989
Former first deputy Interior Minister Pascual Martínez Gil, who held degrees of major general, died of a heart attack in Havana at the CIMEQ Hospital .
The news of the death of Gil Martinez , alias Pascualito , 72, occurred last week and was confirmed by way of family and friends in Cuba sources . He had suffered another heart attack and before his health had weakened .

Martínez Gil was sentenced to 12 years in prison on the call Cause No. 2 of 1989 , in which he was accused his superior officer and close friend, General Jose Abrantes , who received a sentence of 20 years and died in prison Guanajay in January 1991 .
He also served his sentence in Guanajay along with other senior officials of the Ministry of Interior (MININT ) prosecuted in the same process , which was a judicial farce to present scapegoats to erase the responsibility of Fidel and Raul Castro in shady business of corruption and drug trafficking . Case No. 2 followed the No.1 Cause, which ended with the execution of General Arnaldo Ochoa, Col. Antonio de la Guardia and two other soldiers .

By then circulated rumors about his cooperation with the authorities in the judicial process , moving away from Abrantes , which will cost him to a less severe sentence . But the reality is that nothing earned him his ” revolutionary commitment ” since Fidel Castro ended up sacrificing as to shake one more piece of evidence pointing to the highest government leadership of the country.
After leaving prison, Pascual was devoted to civil activities far removed from the work that had played all his life. First he had the business in a palate that according to some customers, including mutual acquaintances , was one of the best in Havana.
Later I met him at the ESPCOM (Enterprise Security and Protection of Ministry of Construction ), located in the Tulip and Hall streets, in the Plaza de la Revolution. He said he was working in a foreign company based in Cuba .
Despite their invaluable services to Fidel Castro and the revolution that helped them succeed , Gil Martinez ended his days as a victim of a process that , like Saturn , devouring almost all his children.
