WASHINGTON- El presidente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, ha intensificado su presión militar y diplomática sobre Venezuela, en lo que analistas británicos describen como una estrategia que va más allá de la salida de Nicolás Maduro: el verdadero blanco sería el régimen cubano que sostiene al dictador venezolano.
Según un análisis del periodista David Blair, del diario británico The Telegraph, la administración Trump estaría concentrando poderío militar en el Caribe con el propósito de “forzar un cambio de régimen en La Habana”, similar a las antiguas operaciones de la Guerra Fría.
EEUU, MADURO Y LA HABANA
“La meta final podría no ser Caracas, sino La Habana”, afirmó Blair, al comparar la actual ofensiva con la histórica Operación Mangosta, liderada en los años 60 por Estados Unidos para intentar derrocar a Fidel Castro.
La Casa Blanca considera que el gobierno de Maduro se mantiene en pie gracias al respaldo de Cuba, especialmente por los asesores militares y de inteligencia enviados por La Habana a Caracas.
Fuentes cercanas al Departamento de Estado, encabezado por Marco Rubio, aseguraron al medio británico que el enfoque actual busca “romper el eje Caracas-Habana”, debilitando las finanzas y la influencia política de Raúl Castro y del aparato militar cubano, GAESA, que controla gran parte de la economía de la isla.
Mientras tanto, las tensiones aumentan en la región. Medios internacionales reportan maniobras navales estadounidenses cerca de las costas venezolanas, en lo que podría ser la mayor demostración de fuerza en el Caribe en más de una década.
Aunque el discurso oficial de Washington se centra en la defensa de la democracia venezolana, observadores internacionales coinciden en que el objetivo final sería acelerar el colapso del régimen cubano, considerado por Trump como “la raíz de la inestabilidad en América Latina”.
“Si Maduro cae, el siguiente será Díaz-Canel”, dijo recientemente un alto funcionario estadounidense bajo anonimato.
El gobierno cubano, por su parte, ha guardado silencio, mientras el pueblo sigue sufriendo apagones, escasez y represión bajo un sistema que depende, cada vez más, del petróleo venezolano y de la represión interna para mantenerse en el poder.

WASHINGTON—US President Donald Trump has intensified his military and diplomatic pressure on Venezuela, in what British analysts describe as a strategy that goes beyond the removal of Nicolás Maduro: the real target is the Cuban regime that supports the Venezuelan dictator.
According to an analysis by journalist David Blair of the British newspaper The Telegraph, the Trump administration is concentrating military power in the Caribbean with the purpose of “forcing regime change in Havana,” similar to past Cold War operations.
US, MADURO, AND HAVANA
“The ultimate goal may not be Caracas, but Havana,” Blair stated, comparing the current offensive to the historic Operation Mongoose, led by the United States in the 1960s to try to overthrow Fidel Castro.
The White House believes that the Maduro government remains in power thanks to the support of Cuba, especially the military and intelligence advisors sent by Havana to Caracas.
Sources close to the State Department, headed by Marco Rubio, told the British media that the current approach seeks to “break the Caracas-Havana axis,” weakening the finances and political influence of Raúl Castro and the Cuban military apparatus, GAESA, which controls a large part of the island’s economy.
Meanwhile, tensions are rising in the region. International media are reporting US naval maneuvers near the Venezuelan coast, in what could be the largest show of force in the Caribbean in more than a decade.
Although Washington’s official discourse focuses on defending Venezuelan democracy, international observers agree that the ultimate goal would be to accelerate the collapse of the Cuban regime, considered by Trump to be “the root of instability in Latin America.”
“If Maduro falls, Díaz-Canel will be next,” a senior US official recently said on condition of anonymity.
The Cuban government, for its part, has remained silent, while the people continue to suffer blackouts, shortages, and repression under a system that increasingly depends on Venezuelan oil and internal repression to maintain its grip on power.
