El Hotel Nacional de Cuba es un histórico hotel de estilo ecléctico español en La Habana, Cuba, inaugurado en 1930. Ubicado frente al mar en el barrio del Vedado, se alza sobre la colina de Taganana, ofreciendo impresionantes vistas al mar y a la ciudad.
El Hotel Nacional fue diseñado por el estudio de arquitectura neoyorquino McKim, Mead and White, financiado por el National City Bank de Nueva York, y construido en catorce meses por la firma de ingeniería estadounidense Purdy and Henderson. La estructura presenta una mezcla de estilos, incluyendo el sevillano, el romano, el morisco y el art déco. El pórtico de entrada, de estilo palladiano, presenta dos capiteles de columnas estilizados y esquinas de piedra coralina.
La distribución del Hotel Nacional se basa en dos cruces griegas, lo que otorga a la mayoría de las habitaciones vistas al océano. Las 6 plantas típicas cuentan con 74 habitaciones y una superficie construida de 5912,4 m² (63 641 pies cuadrados). La octava planta (última planta) cuenta con 66 habitaciones y una superficie de 4675,3 m² (50 325 pies cuadrados). La superficie del edificio mide aproximadamente 159 m x 81 m. La estructura del edificio es de acero, mientras que los elementos decorativos, como los detalles de la planta baja, las columnas, los revestimientos de los muros y gran parte del pavimento, son de piedra coralina.
HUESPEDES FAMOSOS
En 1956, el cantante Nat King Cole fue contratado para actuar en Cuba y quiso alojarse en el Hotel Nacional de Cuba, pero no se lo permitieron debido a la segregación racial en el hotel. Anteriormente, el hotel había rechazado a celebridades negras como Joe Louis, Marian Anderson, Jackie Robinson y Josephine Baker. Cole cumplió su contrato y el concierto en el Tropicana fue un gran éxito. Al año siguiente, regresó a Cuba para otro concierto, cantando muchas canciones en español. Actualmente, se le rinde homenaje con una estatua y una rocola en el Hotel Nacional.
Jean-Paul Sartre se alojó en el hotel justo después de la Revolución de 1960, con su esposa, la filósofa Simone de Beauvoir. La pareja entrevistó al Che Guevara, y Sartre escribió “Sartre visita Cuba”, que se publicó en La Habana en 1961, narrando sus experiencias. Desde entonces, el hotel bautizó la habitación en la que se alojó con su nombre.
En sus más de 80 años de existencia, el Hotel Nacional ha recibido a importantes huéspedes, entre ellos artistas, actores, deportistas y escritores como Winston Churchill, el duque y la duquesa de Windsor, Jimmy Carter, Frank Sinatra, Ava Gardner, Rita Hayworth, Mickey Mantle, Johnny Weissmuller, Buster Keaton, Jorge Negrete, Agustín Lara, Rocky Marciano, Tyrone Power, Rómulo Gallegos, Errol Flynn, John Wayne, Marlene Dietrich, Gary Cooper, Marlon Brando, Ernest Hemingway, Yuri Gagarin, el científico Alexander Fleming, el gobernador de Minnesota (Estados Unidos) Jesse Ventura, e innumerables jefes de Estado iberoamericanos y monarcas europeos.

El Hotel Nacional de Cuba repitió por 21 ocasión el premio Word Travel Awards, en la categoría de Memoria Nacional, conferida desde 1992 por la la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Educación, la Ciencia y la Cultura.
Constituye reconocimiento a la historia, elegancia, y documentos atesorados, en la, principal instalación del turismo de esta Isla caribeña, enclavada en La Habana, y a punto de arribar al aniversario 95 de su apertura oficial.
Símbolo de las hospederías cubanas, de cinco estrellas, operado por el grupo Gran Caribe, obtenga el título de Monumento Nacional, y entre su visitantes más ilustre figuran Johnny Weismuller, Ava Gadner, Errol Flyn y Frank Sinatra.
Cuentan con 457 habitaciones, la mayoría con vista al mar (16 suites y una presidencial) y en los años 40 del siglo 20 el toque de distinción lo aportó el Cabaret Parisién, el segundo mejor del país solo antecedido por Tropicana.
En cuestión el emblemático y cubanísimo Hotel Nacional dispone de un Salón de la Fama en el que se pueden apreciar imágenes de quienes estuvieron en sus pasillos, habitaciones, restaurantes o bares.

The Hotel Nacional de Cuba is a historic Spanish eclectic-style hotel in Havana, Cuba, opened in 1930. Located on the waterfront in the Vedado neighborhood, it stands atop Taganana Hill, offering stunning views of the sea and the city.
The Hotel Nacional was designed by the New York architectural firm of McKim, Mead and White, financed by the National City Bank of New York, and built in fourteen months by the American engineering firm of Purdy and Henderson. The structure features a blend of styles, including Sevillian, Roman, Moorish, and Art Deco. The Palladian-style entrance portico features two stylized column capitals and coral stone cornerstones.
The Hotel Nacional’s layout is based on two Greek crosses, giving most rooms ocean views. The typical six floors have 74 rooms and a floor area of 5,912.4 m² (63,641 sq ft). The eighth (top) floor has 66 rooms and a floor area of 4,675.3 m² (50,325 sq ft). The building’s floor area measures approximately 159 m x 81 m. The building’s structure is made of steel, while decorative elements, such as the ground floor details, columns, wall coverings, and much of the flooring, are made of coral stone.
Famous Guests
In 1956, singer Nat King Cole was booked to perform in Cuba and wanted to stay at the Hotel Nacional de Cuba, but was denied due to the hotel’s racial segregation. Previously, the hotel had turned away Black celebrities such as Joe Louis, Marian Anderson, Jackie Robinson, and Josephine Baker. Cole fulfilled his contract, and the concert at the Tropicana was a huge success. The following year, he returned to Cuba for another concert, singing many songs in Spanish. Currently, a statue and jukebox honor him at the Hotel Nacional.

The Hotel Nacional de Cuba won the World Travel Awards for the 21st time in the National Memory category, awarded since 1992 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
It recognizes the history, elegance, and treasured documents of this Caribbean island’s main tourism facility, located in Havana, and about to celebrate the 95th anniversary of its official opening.
A symbol of Cuban lodgings, the five-star hotel, operated by the Gran Caribe group, has earned the title of National Monument. Among its most illustrious visitors are Johnny Weismuller, Ava Gardner, Errol Flynn, and Frank Sinatra.
They have 457 rooms, most with ocean views (16 suites and one presidential suite), and in the 1940s, the touch of distinction was provided by the Cabaret Parisién, the second best in the country, only surpassed by Tropicana.
The emblematic and Cuban Hotel Nacional has a Hall of Fame where you can see images of those who have been in its hallways, rooms, restaurants, and bars.
