Uno de los rostros más conocidos de las telenovelas mexicanas, César Évora, casi se dedica a la Geofísica, carrera que eligió con 17 años en Cuba. “Me sonaba bien la palabra. No pude abandonar la carrera porque me cogía el Servicio Militar. En tercer año la dejé e hice las pruebas para estudiar actuación. Encontré mi verdadera vocación. El día que decidí que me dedicaría en cuerpo y alma a esto fue el mismo día en el que falleció mi abuelo. Fue uno de los momentos más felices y tristes de mi vida”, dice el actor cubano en entrevista con DIARIO DE CUBA.
Évora lleva 30 años en México y ha hecho más de 36 novelas, Pasión y prejuicio, Corazón salvaje, Luz clarita, La madrastra y Abrázame muy fuerte, solo por mencionar algunas. “Para mí es muy complicado tomar vacaciones”, afirma.
“Mi esposa siempre insiste en que descanse, y es verdad que no es lo mismo el Conde de Montecristo al Évora de 20 años después, pero siempre estoy de proyecto en proyecto. He grabado hasta dos novelas a la vez, con personajes totalmente diferentes, esto de la mano del teatro y el cine. Han sido años de mucho trabajo”, añade.

A pesar de que Évora ha acompañado constantemente al público con sus personajes, dice haber luchado por no encasillarse en ningún rol. “Rechacé proyectos porque no quería estancarme. Siempre he estado tratando de balancear mis personajes. No fue fácil, en un principio tuve mis broncas, pero al final me respetaron”.
El actor, quien ama arreglar cosas y la comida cubana, dice estar ahora inmerso en un papel especial en la novela “Mina de pasión”, que aún se encuentra en proceso de grabación y en la que participa la actriz cubana Livia Brito.
CÉSAR EVORA LLEGA A MÉXICO
De su llegada a México, el país en donde ha desarrollado la mayor parte de su carrera, Évora cuenta que lo invitaron a hacer unas pruebas para un personaje y cuando regresó a Cuba le informaron que no regresaría al país azteca.
“Resulta que la actriz mexicana Verónica Castro había hecho un programa en Cuba que había molestado a los cubanos de Miami. Me pareció absurdo todo eso y, molesto, fui a la embajada de México a solicitar visa. Pedí dinero prestado a todos mis amigos para comprarme un billete de avión y arranqué para allá”, cuenta.
Sin tener dinero para pagar la noche el hotel en México, César Évora convence a la recepcionista de darle una habitación que supuestamente pagaría Televisa. “Al día siguiente me reuní con la mayor autoridad dentro de la cadena, Emilio Azcárraga, un hombre muy imponente a quien le hablé con total honestidad”.
“Le dije que tenía detrás dos hijos que mantener y una que venía en camino. Ese día entré sin nada y salí con un contrato de cuatro años, un coche, un apartamento y la noche del hotel del día anterior pagada”, cuenta Évora entre risas.
El actor, quien confiesa no acordarse de todos los papeles que ha interpretado, dice tenerle especial cariño a su primer antagónico y a un rol de sacerdote que trajo mucha controversia.
“La gente me pedía en la calle que le diera la bendición o besarme la mano. El Episcopado de México le escribió a Televisa pidiendo fotos del sacerdote que salía en la televisión porque muchas personas iban a la Iglesia buscándome”, cuenta el actor.
Sobre los lazos que lo atan a Cuba, César mencionó a su madre. “Es mi gran cadena a esa Isla que me sigue tanto, quisiera estar más tiempo con ella. A veces la traigo aquí y le sube mucho la presión por la altura, se siente rara, ella necesita sus cosas, tiene un patio con flores en su casa en Lawton, es algo que ella adora, es su mundo y no se lo puedo quitar”.

“My wife always insists that I rest, and it is true that the Count of Monte Cristo is not the same as the Évora of 20 years later, but I am always from project to project. I have recorded up to two novels at the same time, with totally different characters, this hand in hand with theater and cinema. They have been years of a lot of work,” he adds.
Despite the fact that Évora has constantly accompanied the public with his characters, he says he has struggled not to be pigeonholed in any role. “I turned down projects because I didn’t want to stagnate. I’ve always been trying to balance my characters. It wasn’t easy, at first I had my fights, but in the end they respected me.”
The actor, who loves to fix things and Cuban food, says he is now immersed in a special role in the novel “Mina de pasión”, which is still in the recording process and in which the Cuban actress Livia Brito participates.
CÉSAR ÉVORA ARRIVES IN MEXICO
On his arrival in Mexico, the country where he has developed most of his career, Évora says that he was invited to do some tests for a character and when he returned to Cuba they informed him that he would not return to the country. Aztec.

“I told him that I had two children to support and one that was on the way. That day I went in with nothing and left with a four-year contract, a car, an apartment and the hotel night paid for the day before,” Évora says between laughs.
The actor, who confesses that he does not remember all the roles he has played, says he is especially fond of his first antagonist and a role as a priest that brought a lot of controversy.
“People asked me on the street to give them a blessing or to kiss my hand. The Episcopate of Mexico wrote to Televisa asking for photos of the priest who was on television because many people went to church looking for me,” says the actor.
Regarding the ties that bind him to Cuba, César mentioned his mother. “It is my great chain to that Island that follows me so much, I would like to spend more time with her. Sometimes I bring her here and her pressure rises a lot due to the height, she feels strange, she needs her things, she has a patio with flowers in Her house in Lawton, it’s something she loves, it’s her world and I can’t take it away from her.”
