Intenso, emotivo y muy cerrado, justo como se prevé la primera etapa de la 52 Serie Nacional de Béisbol, resultó el juego inaugural del clásico cubano de las bolas y los strikes, por una parte gran exhibición de pitcheo y por otra, muestra de ciertos detalles (deficiencias) habituales en nuestros campeonatos.
Luego de una ceremonia inicial tan colorida como sencilla en el estadio José Ramón Cepero (abarrotado de esquina a esquina), Industriales y Ciego de Ávila, monarca y subcampeón de la anterior justa, se enfrascaron en un soberano duelo a ceros, el tercer extrainnings en los últimos 12 partidos inaugurales, ganado finalmente 1-0 por los locales.
Inmensos estuvieron Vladimir García y Odrisamer Despaigne desde la lomita como abridores, el primero sin permitir jit hasta la novena entrada —Frank Camilo Morejón le rompió el posible cero jit cero carrera— frente a una alineación poderosa, con cuatro zurdos de cuidado y muchas variantes para crear carreras.

Se repitió la historia. Los avileños dejaron nuevamente con las ganas en el epílogo a los Leones, que siguen con su maleficio en los duelos inaugurales, pues suman ocho fracasos en diez pleitos, todo lo contrario de los Tigres en sus dos apariciones abriendo el torneo.
Con estos matices comenzó a vivirse intensamente el mayor espectáculo deportivo de la nación, preámbulo de lo que será la etapa inicial de 52 Serie Nacional, una carrera de velocidad que distará de las maratónicas temporadas de 90 o 96 encuentros.
