Rolando Laserie fue un cantante y percusionista cubano y uno de los vocalistas más destacados de la música cubana.

Rolando La Serie tenía una voz poderosa, un poco ronca y agresiva. Aunque algunos de sus más grandes éxitos fueron baladas, su up-tempo canto era una maravilla de la improvisación y el sonido. Su ataque y su entusiasmo le valió el apodo de” El Guapo de la Canción”, que se traduce en el argot cubano como cantante valiente o audaz.
La Serie, nació en Santa Clara, Cuba, aprendió a tocar la batería a los 9 años. Al principio de su carrera como músico alternó haciendo zapatos.
CARRERA ARTISTICA
La Serie toco esporádicamente como percusionista en la Banda Municipal de Santa Clara. Allí, con 20 años de edad, tocó con la Orquesta Arcano y sus Maravillas en sustitución de Miguelito Cuní.
En 1946 viajó a La Habana, y sirve como percusionista en la orquesta de los Hermanos Palau y con el tiempo de trabajo con diferentes grupos. Algún tiempo después, se convirtió en timbalero y de coro en la Banda Gigante de Benny Moré comenzó como percusionista -. Fue uno de los miembros originales del grupo de Beny Moré – cuyo canto era visto como un poco de vergüenza. Pero en 1956 tuvo la oportunidad de grabar una balada de Mario Fernández Porta llama” Mentiras Tuyas”, que transformó con su sonido distintivo duro. El compositor de la canción se opuso a la interpretación del Sr. de La Serie, pero el disco vendió 30.000 copias en los primeros días después de su lanzamiento.
Ernesto Duarte con hermanos Álvarez Guedes, los dueños luego de la etiqueta de “GEM” hizo una producción de boleros que la proyección no se esperaba tan buena como lo era. El álbum fue arreglado por Duarte, con el sonido característico de la banda de jazz en Cuba.
“Yours Lies”, grabado en 1957 y escrito por Mario Fernández Porta, fue decisivo en su forma de cantar, con allanamientos y diálogos coloquiales. A lo largo de su carrera grabó más de treinta álbumes.
Con el advenimiento de la revolución, emigró a Miami, donde continuó su carrera, con una buena parte de su audiencia.
Murió en Coral Gables, Florida (75 años) el 22 de noviembre de 1998 por complicaciones cardíacas.

Rolando La Serie was a Cuban singer and percussionist, and one of the most outstanding vocalists in Cuban music.
He began his career as a percussionist with bands in his hometown. In 1998, The New York Times and The Washington Post described him as one of the greatest Cuban singers of all time.
Rolando La Serie had a powerful, slightly husky, and aggressive voice. Although some of his biggest hits were ballads, his up-tempo singing was a marvel of improvisation and sound. His attack and enthusiasm earned him the nickname “El Guapo de la Canción” (The Handsome One of Song), which in Cuban slang translates to brave or bold singer.
La Serie was born in Santa Clara, Cuba, and learned to play the drums at age 9. At the beginning of his musical career, he also made shoes.
ARTISTIC CAREER
De La Serie played sporadically as a percussionist in the Santa Clara Municipal Band. There, at the age of 20, he played with the Arcano y sus Maravillas Orchestra, replacing Miguelito Cuní.
In 1946, he traveled to Havana and served as a percussionist in the Palau Brothers Orchestra, later working with various other groups. Some time later, he became a timbalero and chorus member in Benny Moré’s Banda Gigante. He began as a percussionist—he was one of the original members of Benny Moré’s group—whose singing was considered somewhat embarrassing. But in 1956, he had the opportunity to record a ballad by Mario Fernández Porta called “Mentiras Tuyas,” which he transformed with his distinctive, hard-edged sound. The song’s composer objected to De La Serie’s interpretation, but the record sold 30,000 copies in the first few days after its release.
Ernesto Duarte, along with the Álvarez Guedes brothers, who later owned the “GEM” label, produced a collection of boleros that exceeded expectations. The album was arranged by Duarte, featuring the characteristic sound of Cuban jazz bands.
“Yours Lies,” recorded in 1957 and written by Mario Fernández Porta, was pivotal in shaping his singing style, with its informal, conversational delivery. Throughout his career, he recorded more than thirty albums.
With the advent of the revolution, he emigrated to Miami, where he continued his career, maintaining a large part of his audience.
He died in Coral Gables, Florida (age 75) on November 22, 1998, from heart complications.
