MADRID – La aerolínea estatal venezolana Conviasa anunció el martes que reprogramará sus vuelos hacia y desde Cuba entre el 10 y el 19 de febrero, tras la crisis de escasez de combustible en los aeropuertos de la isla. La decisión también afecta las rutas a Nicaragua, debido a los cambios en la política de visados anunciados por el gobierno de Daniel Ortega, vigentes desde el domingo.
Con la modificación, solo habrá un vuelo de ida y vuelta diario entre las capitales de Venezuela y Cuba y un solo vuelo, incluyendo el de regreso, entre Caracas y Managua el próximo jueves 19 de febrero.
La decisión se produce dos días después de que las autoridades cubanas informaran a las aerolíneas que no había más combustible disponible para vuelos internacionales en nueve aeropuertos de la isla. La comunicación se emitió a través del servicio NOTAM (Aviso a los Aviadores) e impulsó a las aerolíneas con vuelos diarios a Cuba —principalmente estadounidenses, españolas, mexicanas y panameñas— a tomar medidas de emergencia.
El aviso tiene una vigencia inicial de un mes, lo que significa que estará vigente hasta el 11 de marzo, aunque podría renovarse si las condiciones actuales se mantienen.
A esto se suma la medida del Gobierno de Nicaragua, copresidido por Daniel Ortega y su esposa, Rosario Murillo, de cambiar la clasificación migratoria de visas para los ciudadanos cubanos, que pasan de la categoría A, exentos de visa, a la C, con visa de consulta gratuita.
Aunque el nuevo documento es gratuito, la decisión supone un reto para viajar al país que, durante los últimos cuatro años, ha sido una vía de escape para cientos de miles de cubanos en su camino a Estados Unidos, y que inicialmente reducirá la necesidad de asientos en vuelos que anteriormente estaban abarrotados.
A esto se suma el anuncio de la empresa estatal Cubana de Aviación, que cancela uno de los dos vuelos semanales que mantenía entre Cuba y España a través de la aeronave arrendada a la compañía española Plus Ultra.
Según mensajes enviados a algunos clientes y obtenidos por Diario de Cuba, los vuelos de los viernes desde Madrid y los de los domingos desde La Habana y Santiago están suspendidos hasta el 8 de marzo. Se espera que la aerolínea mantenga sus salidas de los martes con vuelos de regreso los jueves.
La mayoría de los viajeros afectados son de Santiago de Cuba, que representan el 70% de los usuarios que toman esa ruta, con destino a la capital oriental.

MADRID- Venezuelan state airline Conviasa announced Tuesday that it will reschedule its flights to and from Cuba between February 10 and 19, following the fuel shortage crisis at the island’s airports. The decision also affects routes to Nicaragua, due to visa policy changes announced by the government of Daniel Ortega and in effect since Sunday.
With the modification, there will be only one round trip between the Venezuelan and Cuban capitals per day and a single flight, including the return, between Caracas and Managua next Thursday, February 19.
The decision comes two days after Cuban authorities informed airlines that there was no more fuel available for international flights at nine airports on the island. The communication was issued through the NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) service and prompted airlines with daily flights to Cuba—mainly American, Spanish, Mexican, and Panamanian—to begin taking emergency measures.
The notice has an initial validity of one month, meaning it will be in effect until March 11, although it could be renewed if current conditions remain the same.
Added to this is the measure by the Government of Nicaragua, co-presided by Daniel Ortega and his wife, Rosario Murillo, to make a change in the visa immigration classification for citizens of Cuba, who go from category A, exempt from visa, to C, visa consulted at no cost.
Although the new document is free, the decision poses a challenge to travel to the country that, for the past four years, has been an escape route for hundreds of thousands of Cubans on their way to the US, and will initially lead to a decrease in the need for seats on flights that were previously packed.
To this we must add the announcement made by the state-owned Cubana de Aviación, which cancels one of the two weekly flights it maintained between Cuba and Spain through the aircraft leased from the Spanish company Plus Ultra.
According to messages sent to some customers and obtained by Diario de Cuba, Friday flights from Madrid and Sunday flights from Havana and Santiago are suspended until March 8. The airline is expected to maintain its Tuesday departures with return flights on Thursdays.
Most of the affected travelers are from Santiago de Cuba, who make up 70% of the users who take that route, ending in the eastern capital.
