WASHINGTON- El presidente estadounidense, Donald Trump, firmó este jueves una orden ejecutiva que establece que Estados Unidos podrá imponer aranceles a los bienes procedentes de países que vendan o proporcionen petróleo a Cuba.
“Considero que la situación con respecto a Cuba constituye una amenaza inusual y extraordinaria para la seguridad nacional y la política exterior de EE UU, y por la presente declaro una emergencia nacional con respecto a esa amenaza”, argumentó el mandatario en la orden ejecutiva.
Según la medida, para hacer frente a esta situación es “necesario” establecer un sistema arancelario, bajo el cual se podrá imponer un gravamen adicional a las importaciones de productos de países extranjeros que, “directa o indirectamente”, vendan o suministren crudo a Cuba.

WASHINGTON – U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Thursday stating that the United States may impose tariffs on goods from countries that sell or provide oil to Cuba.
“I find that the situation with respect to Cuba constitutes an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States, and I hereby declare a national emergency with respect to that threat,” the president argued in the executive order.
According to the measure, to address this situation it is “necessary” to establish a tariff system, under which an additional tariff may be imposed on imports of products from foreign countries that “directly or indirectly” sell or supply crude oil to Cuba.

Trump has previously maintained that the Cuban government’s days are numbered since the U.S. attack on Venezuela on November 3, which resulted in the capture of Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, who now face drug trafficking charges in New York.
Washington believes that the end of Venezuelan crude oil shipments to the island will trigger a regime change in Cuba, a country affected by a serious economic and social crisis.
