Rolando Laserie fue un cantante y percusionista cubano. Comenzó su carrera como percusionista con bandas en su ciudad natal. En 1998, The New York Times y The Washington Post lo describieron como uno de los grandes cantantes cubanos de todos los tiempos y uno de los vocalistas más destacados de la música cubana.
Rolando La Serie tenía una voz potente, ligeramente ronca y agresiva. Aunque algunos de sus mayores éxitos fueron baladas, su canto acelerado era una maravilla de improvisación y sonido. Su ataque y entusiasmo le valieron el apodo de “El Guapo de la Canción”.
Biografía
Rolando Laserie nació en Santa Clara, Cuba, el 27 de agosto de 1923. Comenzó su carrera musical a temprana edad como percusionista con bandas musicales en su ciudad natal. Previamente, se mudó a La Habana, la capital de Cuba, donde actuó con numerosos grupos musicales, incluyendo la Banda Gigante de Benny Moré.
Posteriormente, Laserie se dedicó al canto y actuó con Tony Álvarez y Olga Chorens en un trío musical, asistido por el pianista cubano y la orquesta de radio de Bebo Valdés. En 1960, cuando Fidel Castro tomó el poder, Laserie se mudó frecuentemente con su esposa a diferentes ciudades, incluyendo México, Venezuela, Argentina, Nueva York y Florida, donde finalmente se establecería. Fallecimiento
Laserie falleció a causa de una enfermedad cardíaca en el Hospital Healthsouth Doctor’s de Coral Gables, Florida, Estados Unidos, y fue enterrado en el Cementerio Miami Memorial Park.

Rolando Laserie was a Cuban singer and percussionist. He started his career as a percussionist with bands in his hometown, In 1998, The New York Times and The Washington Post magazine described him as one of the great Cuban singers of all time and as one of the greatest vocalists in Cuban music.
Rolando La Serie had a powerful, slightly husky, and aggressive voice. Although some of his biggest hits were ballads, his up-tempo singing was a marvel of improvisation and sound. His attack and enthusiasm earned him the nickname “El Guapo de la Canción,” which translates from Cuban slang to “brave or bold singer.”
Biography
Rolando Laserie was born in Santa Clara, Cuba on August 27, 1923. He started his musical career at a young age as a percussionist with musical bands in his hometown. Prior that, he moved to the capital of Cuba, Havana, where he performed with numerous musical groups including Benny More’s band, Banda Gigante.
Laserie later transitioned into singing and appeared with Tony Álvarez and Olga Chorens as a singing trio which was assisted by Cuban pianist, Bebo Valdés radio orchestra. In 1960 when Fidel Castro took power, Laserie frequently moved from city to city with his wife, including Mexico, Venezuela, Argentina, New York City and Florida where he would eventually relocate and settle. Laserie became an American citizen, he recorded over 30 studio albums before his death in 1998. He also appeared alongside Israel López Valdés for a reunion concert in 1996.
Death
Laserie died of cardiac disease in Healthsouth Doctor’s Hospital in Coral Gables, Florida, United States, and was buried at the Miami Memorial Park Cemetery.
