Daisy Fuentes es una modelo cubanoamericana nacida el 17 de noviembre de 1966, presentadora de televisión, actriz y expresentadora del tiempo. Fuentes se convirtió en la primera VJ latina de MTV (contratada simultáneamente con MTV y MTV Latinoamérica) y la primera portavoz latina de Revlon en firmar un contrato internacional.

Daisy Fuentes nació en La Habana, Cuba, de padre cubano y madre española. En 1969, cuando Fuentes tenía tres años, su familia huyó del país para escapar del régimen de Fidel Castro y se mudó a Madrid, España.

Cuatro años después, se mudó con su familia a Harrison, Nueva Jersey, EE. UU., donde asistió a la escuela secundaria Harrison High School, fue elegida reina del baile y la “más guapa”, graduándose en 1984. Aspirante a estilista, se matriculó en la escuela de cosmetología con el sueño de abrir su propio salón. Más tarde, se matriculó en Bergen Community College, donde se especializó en comunicaciones.

CARRERA ARTÍSTICA

Siendo aún estudiante universitaria, Fuentes fue contratada para presentar el pronóstico del tiempo en WNJU-TV 47, la filial local de la cadena de televisión en español Telemundo. Poco después, Fuentes aceptó un puesto en WXTV-TV 41, la filial neoyorquina de Univisión, donde, además de ser presentadora del pronóstico del tiempo, reportaba el noticiero vespertino.

En 1988, además de sus funciones de meteorología, Fuentes presentó MTV Internacional, un programa musical en español de una hora que se transmitía en Latinoamérica y Estados Unidos por la cadena Telemundo, lo que la dio a conocer en el mercado de la televisión en español de Estados Unidos y Latinoamérica. Fuentes se unió a MTV en 1993, convirtiéndose en la primera VJ latina en Estados Unidos, a la vez que presentaba programas para MTV Latinoamérica. Durante su estancia en MTV, Fuentes también presentó el programa de moda y modelaje House of Style. Se convirtió en una de las presentadoras más populares de la cadena y pronto fue solicitada por empresas para ser su portavoz.

Daisy Fuentes is a Cuban-American Model born November 17, 1966, television host, actress and former weather presenter. Fuentes became MTV’s first Latina VJ (signed to MTV and MTV Latin America simultaneously) and Revlon’s first Latina spokesperson to be signed to a worldwide contract.

Daisy Fuentes was born in Havana, Cuba, to a Cuban father and Spanish mother. In 1969, when Fuentes was three years old, her family fled the country to escape Fidel Castro’s regime and moved to Madrid, Spain.

Four years later, she moved with her family to Harrison, New Jersey, US, where she attended Harrison High School, was voted homecoming queen and “best looking”, and graduated in 1984. An aspiring hairstylist, she enrolled in cosmetology school with dreams of opening her own salon. Later, she enrolled at Bergen Community College where she majored in communications.

ARTISTIC CAREER

While still a college student, Fuentes was hired to present the weather at WNJU-TV 47, the local affiliate of Spanish-language TV network, Telemundo. Shortly after, Fuentes took a position with New York’s Univision affiliate WXTV-TV 41 where in addition to being the weather anchor, she reported for the evening news.

In 1988, in addition to her weather duties, Fuentes hosted MTV Internacional, a one-hour Spanish language music show that aired in Latin America and the U.S. on Telemundo Network which made her well known in the Spanish-language TV market in the U.S. and Latin America. From 1994 to 1995 she hosted her own talk show, Daisy, on CNBC. She was the co-host of America’s Funniest Home Videos, along with John Fugelsang, from 1998 to 1999 making her the only female host of the show. Fuentes has appeared on many magazine covers and has starred in na television advertisements for Revlon, Pantene, American Express, M&M’s and others. She was the first Mind, Body, Spirit Superstar, which was created to generate awareness of top women’s health causes and work to promote change. In 2005, Fuentes appeared on the three page cover of People en Español’s “50 most beautiful” women. Fuentes has hosted numerous TV shows and specials.

In 2004 Fuentes successfully launched the first clothing line bearing her name.

She made her debut in the haircare category with an all-natural hair care line called Daisy Fuentes Style Pro in March 2009 to mass retailers. Her workout game for the Wii, Daisy Fuentes Pilates, was released in August 2009.

Each year Fuentes sells about $300 million worth of goods, including hair care, fragrances, clothing, sunglasses, and accessories at Kohl’s department stores.

Fuentes signed a prescription-eye wear licensing deal with Zyloware for a women’s Latina-driven collection of prescription glasses.

Currently, Fuentes is co-presenter of La Voz Kids on Telemundo, the Spanish-language TV version of the show The Voice with kids and judges Paulina Rubio, Prince Royce, and Roberto Tapia.
