Rubio afirmó que Estados Unidos vive un momento sin precedentes en su lucha contra el crimen organizado.
WASHINGTON – El secretario de Estado de EE. UU., Marco Rubio, declaró el martes que la administración Trump ha adoptado una estrategia ofensiva contra los cárteles de la droga y enfatizó el despliegue militar en el Caribe y la región cercana a Venezuela como parte de esta estrategia.
Durante una reunión de gabinete en la Casa Blanca, transmitida en vivo, Rubio afirmó que Estados Unidos vive un momento sin precedentes en su lucha contra el crimen organizado.
“Por primera vez en la era moderna, estamos verdaderamente a la ofensiva contra los cárteles organizados que están inyectando veneno, veneno mortal, en nuestras ciudades, y este es un esfuerzo de equipo”, declaró Rubio, refiriéndose a la intensificación de las operaciones militares y de seguridad en la región.
Esta semana, tres destructores de misiles guiados de la Armada de Estados Unidos se acercaron a las costas de Venezuela, y el martes se intensificó el despliegue militar en el Caribe con el envío de un submarino nuclear de ataque rápido y un crucero de misiles guiados.
El despliegue de recursos en aguas cercanas a Venezuela se interpreta como una señal de presión directa sobre el régimen de Nicolás Maduro, a quien Washington acusa de tener vínculos con redes de narcotráfico y de servir de plataforma para operaciones ilegales en la región.
En la misma reunión, varios miembros del gabinete aprovecharon la oportunidad para elogiar el liderazgo de Donald Trump, a quien Rubio describió como “el presidente de los trabajadores estadounidenses” y “el principal pacificador”.
La reunión, que duró más de tres horas y en la que participaron Kristi Noem, secretaria de Seguridad Nacional; Steve Witkoff, enviado especial de la Casa Blanca para Oriente Medio; entre otros, fue criticada por la prensa como una muestra de lealtad política al líder.
El anuncio del Secretario de Estado coincide con el aumento de las tensiones entre Washington y Caracas, en un contexto en el que el gobierno estadounidense insiste en que no permitirá que los cárteles ni sus aliados extranjeros conviertan a Venezuela en un “santuario criminal” a las puertas del continente.
Por su parte, bajo presión de Washington, Caracas liberó a 13 presos políticos la última semana.

Tras las acusaciones de Washington, el presidente Gustavo Petro defendió a Nicolás Maduro y negó la existencia del llamado Cártel de los Soles, al que Estados Unidos ha designado como organización terrorista y cuyo líder, según Washington, es el propio presidente venezolano.

WASHINGTON- The U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, stated on Tuesday that the Trump administration has taken “an offensive” approach against drug cartels and emphasized the military deployment in the Caribbean and near Venezuela as part of this strategy.
During a cabinet meeting at the White House, broadcast live, Rubio stated that the United States is experiencing an unprecedented moment in its fight against organized crime.
“For the first time in the modern era, we are truly on the offensive against the organized cartels that are pumping poison—deadly poison—into our cities, and this is a team effort,” Rubio stated, referring to the intensification of military and security operations in the region.
This week, three guided missile destroyers from the United States Navy approached the shores of Venezuela, and on Tuesday, military deployment in the Caribbean intensified with the sending of a fast attack nuclear submarine and a guided missile cruiser.
The deployment of resources in waters near Venezuela is interpreted as a direct pressure signal on the regime of Nicolás Maduro, whom Washington accuses of ties to drug trafficking networks and of serving as a platform for illegal operations in the region.
In the same meeting, several cabinet members took the opportunity to praise Donald Trump’s leadership, which Rubio described as “the president of American workers” and “the chief peacemaker.”
The meeting, which lasted over three hours and included Kristi Noem, Secretary of Homeland Security; Steve Witkoff, Special Envoy of the White House for the Middle East; among others; was criticized by the press as a demonstration of political loyalty to the leader.
The announcement by the Secretary of State coincides with the increase in tensions between Washington and Caracas, in a context where the U.S. government insists it will not allow cartels or foreign allies to turn Venezuela into a “criminal sanctuary” at the doorstep of the continent.
