Con fuente en personas conocedoras del asunto, el periódico asegura que durante el Gobierno de Donald Trump la inteligencia estadounidense rastreó a trabajadores de los gigantes chinos de telecomunicaciones Huawei Technologies y ZTE entrando y saliendo de instalaciones “sospechosas de albergar operaciones de espionaje chino en Cuba”.
Esto apuntalaba las sospechas de la Administración de entonces, continúa el WSJ, de que esas firmas podrían estar ayudando en la expansión de la capacidad de China para espiar a Estados Unidos desde la Isla. La nota refiere que no han podido saber si el actual Gobierno de Joe Biden “ha seguido esa línea de investigación”, pues la Casa Blanca no comentó sobre el asunto. “Si bien se sabe que ni Huawei ni ZTE fabrican las herramientas que los Gobiernos usarían para espiar, ambos se especializan en la tecnología necesaria para facilitar tal operación”, dijeron al diario estadounidense las mismas fuentes anónimas.
RESPUESTAS DE LAS EMPRESAS CHINAS
Huawei respondió al WSJ negando “tales acusaciones infundadas” y asegurando que estaba “comprometida con el pleno cumplimiento de las leyes y regulaciones aplicables donde operamos”, mientras que ZTE no les respondió.
Este martes, el secretario de Estado, Antony Blinken, dijo que Estados Unidos está “profundamente preocupado” por el hecho de que China pueda acordar con Cuba una instalación de entrenamiento militar en la Isla, tal y como publicó ayer el WSJ. “Es algo que vamos a monitorear muy, muy de cerca y hemos sido muy claros al respecto. Según el reportaje del martes del WSJ, las negociaciones entre China y la Isla, que implicaría tener a tropas del país asiático en operaciones de seguridad e inteligencia a 100 kilómetros de Florida, están “avanzadas pero sin concretar”.
