Hoy se cumplen un aniversario mas de su muerte un 21 de Febrero de 1996. Isolina fue conocida internacionalmene como autora, entre otros, del famoso bolero “Dos Gardenias”.
Isolina Carrillo fue una compositora, cantante y pianista cubana nacida en la ciudad de la Habana, Cuba Integrando desde muy joven al conjunto vocal Siboney. A los once años hizo su debut musical reemplazando a un pianista que se ausentó enfermo en la orquesta de su padre. Provenía de una familia muy musical; sus hermanos y su padre eran músicos. Estudió en el Conservatorio Municipal de La Habana.

La Compositora y pianista, esta distinguida creadora había nacido en La Habana el 9 de diciembre de 1907. A los 10 años de edad debutó como pianista suplente de la Orquesta de Calixto Allende. Después fundó el septeto Las Trovadoras del Cayo, donde dirigió y tocó la trompeta; integró como pianista un trío con Vicente González Rubiera “Guyún” (guitarra), y Marcelino Guerra “Rapindey” (cantante); el Quinteto Siboney, con Joseíto Núñez, Alfredito León, Facundo Rivero y Marcelino Guerra “Rapindey”; el Conjunto Tropicuba y el Trío Sepia.
CARRERA ARTISTICA
Isolina Carrillo comenzó de manera profesional en el mundo de la música en la emisora RHC Cadena Azul. La artista se adelantó a su tiempo cuando organizó la orquesta femenina Las Trovadoras del Cayo, con la que hizo giras por países como México, Venezuela, Perú, Chile y Ecuador.
En la década de 1940 alcanzó su mayor reconocimiento como compositora de boleros, guarachas y sones.
Como compositora se dio a conocer en 1946 con la obra Miedo, de ti. En aquella época compuso la música de casi todos los anuncios radiofónicos de Cuba. Alcanzó la fama internacional poco después, cuando compuso Dos gardenias, popularizada en España por Antonio Machín. Participó, además, en el rodaje de tres películas.

En la música de Isolina Carrillo sobresalieron la utilización de formas tradicionales, y la canción y el bolero con textos en torno a la relación afectiva de la pareja, aunque su catálogo se nutre también de boleros, guarachas, sones danzones, rumbas, mambos y chachachás. Otras obras suyas destacadas son Acuarela tropical, Sombras que besan, Viviré para amarte, Castillo de ensueños y Mis maldades.
Sin embargo, la melodía que la inmortalizó fue Dos Gardenias, uno de los clásicos latinos de todos los tiempos. Interpretó obras de Ernesto Lecuona y, en ocasiones, lo hacía en inglés. Se mantuvo aún activa en el arte musical en sus últimos años de vida.
Sus canciones incluyeron “Fiesta de besos”, “Canción sin amor”, “Increíble” y por supuesto la más famosa de todas sus obras, “Dos gardenias”. Esta última composición ha sido versionada por muchos cantantes como Daniel Santos, Antonio Machín, Pedro Vargas, María Rita, Isabel Pantoja y El Cigala, entre otros.
