NIQUERO, CUBA: WHERE THE WESTERNMOST POINT OF CUBA’S ORIENTAL PROVINCES IS LOCATED.

Niquero is a municipality and town in the Granma Province of Cuba. It is located in the coastal region of the province, bordering the Gulf of Guacanayabo. Cape Cruz (Cabo Cruz), the westernmost point of the province is located in this municipality.

Located on the coast of the province of Granma, Niquero is a city relevant because of its history and nature, as well as due to the archeological findings in the area.

The roads have improved in the last decades and nowadays the area is well communicated, mostly if we bear in mind that in the past its access was only via the sea. The trails were so badly preserved that the inhabitants only moved by horse.

There, you’ll find numerous spots of interest related both to the present and ancient history of the place, Desembarco del Granma National Monument, Alegría de Pío, and the Obelisk erected to honor the Mambí (Cuban fighters) collapsed on October 15th, 1897.

RUSSIAN AIRLINES WILL TRAVEL TO CUBA WEEKLY STARTING IN JUNE DESPITE THE PANDEMIC.

Russian airline Aeroflot will operate in Varadero three times a week starting in June. Regular flights on the Moscow-Varadero-Moscow route will be carried out on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays with Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with more than 500 seats.

THE RUSSIAN AIRLINE Aeroflot will launch its flights to the main Cuban resort Varadero on June 2, with three weekly frequencies on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

According to information published on Telegram by the Cuban Airport and Aeronautical Services Company (ECASA), the main Russian airline will operate in June on Wednesdays and Saturdays with flights SU154 arriving in Varadero at 3:30 pm and SU155 leaving Varadero at 7:10 pm.

On Sundays, the SU154 will arrive in Varadero at 1:00 pm and the SU155 will leave the Cuban airport at 4:40 pm.

ECASA explained that all the programming is subject to possible modifications due to adjustments made by the airlines.

For its part, the official Prensa Latina news agency explained that this itinerary will link the Sheremetyevo airports, in Moscow, and Juan Gualberto Gómez, in Matanzas.

Yamil Millares, head of ground operations at Matanzas airport, told the media that regular flights on the Moscow-Varadero-Moscow route will be carried out with Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with more than 500 seats.

“In addition to increasing the arrival of tourists from the Eurasian giant to the Varaderense pole, the transit of postal mail will also increase,” said the manager.

OTHER RUSSIAN AIRLINES TRAVEL TO CUBA DESPITE THE PANDEMIC

The Juan Gualberto Gómez, close to the country’s main tourist hub, has received three other Russian airlines since April: Azur Air; NordWind, and Royal Flight.

Given the demand and the increase in Cuban travel to that country, the Cuban government announced last Tuesday that as of June 5, additional measures will come into force for Cuban travelers residing on the island who arrive in the country through airports in the tourist poles.

AEREOLINEAS RUSAS VIAJARAN A CUBA DESDE JUNIO SEMANALMENTE A PESAR DE LA PANDEMIA.

Aerolínea rusa Aeroflot operará en Varadero tres veces por semana a partir de junio. Los vuelos regulares en la ruta Moscú-Varadero-Moscú se realizarán miércoles, sábados y domingos con aviones Boeing 777-300ER de más de 500 plazas.

LA LINEA aérea de Rusia Aeroflot estrenará el próximo 2 de junio sus vuelos al principal balneario cubano Varadero, con tres frecuencias semanales los miércoles, sábados y domingos.

De acuerdo con una información publicada en Telegram por la Empresa Cubana de Aeropuertos y Servicios Aeronáutico (ECASA), la principal aerolínea rusa operará en el mes de junio los miércoles y sábados con los vuelos SU154 llegando a Varadero a las 3:30pm y el SU155 saliendo de Varadero a las 7:10pm.

Los domingos el SU154 llegará a Varadero 1:00pm y el SU155 saldrá del aeropuerto cubano a las 4:40pm.

ECASA explicó que toda la programación está sujeta a posibles modificaciones debido a ajustes que realicen las aerolíneas.

Por su parte la oficialista agencia de noticias Prensa Latina abundó que este itinerario enlazará los aeropuertos Sheremetyevo, en Moscú, y Juan Gualberto Gómez, en Matanzas.

Yamil Millares, jefe de operaciones en tierra del aeropuerto de Matanzas, dijo a ese medio que los vuelos regulares en la ruta Moscú-Varadero-Moscú se realizarán con aviones Boeing 777-300ER de más de 500 plazas.

“Además de incrementarse el arribo de turistas del gigante euroasiático al polo varaderense, también aumentará el tránsito del correo postal”, comentó el directivo.

OTRAS AEREOLINEAS RUSAS VIAJAN A CUBA A PESAR DE LA PANDEMIA.

El Juan Gualberto Gómez, cercano al principal polo turístico del país, recibe a otras tres aerolíneas rusas desde abril: Azur Air; NordWind y Royal Flight.

Dada la demanda y el incremento de los viajes de cubanos a ese país el gobierno cubano anunció el pasado martes que a partir del 5 de junio entrarán en vigor medidas adicionales para viajeros cubanos residentes en la isla que arriben al país por aeropuertos de los polos turísticos.

Entre ellas, que los viajeros que arriben al país por los aeropuertos turísticos como el de Matanzas deberán someterse a un aislamiento de una semana en la provincia de arribo, independiente de que no residan en ese territorio.

Además deberán asumir el costo en Moneda Libremente Convertible (MLC) de esa estadía en un hotel del complejo turístico en cuestión.

El representante del Ministerio de Salud de Cuba Francisco Durán García justificó las medidas adicionales por el incremento de casos importados de coronavirus en la isla en las últimas semanas, principalmente por parte de viajeros cubanos residentes en la isla que arriban al país por aeropuertos vinculados con los polos turísticos.

El 4 de mayo, Francisco Durán García ya había pedido a los cubanos que viajan a Rusia extremar las precauciones porque de los 27 casos importados de coronavirus dados a conocer ese día, 26 correspondían a cubanos que viajaron a ese país euroasiático.

Formerly the Cuban rumba was a dance of the most humble class, mainly of blacks and mulattoes who lived in the Havana lots. These communities are located in the heart of Havana and are nothing more than dismantled mansions that establish a collective, bustling lifestyle of picturesque neighborhood styles.

The rumba and drum beats are part of daily life in these places that, in turn, keep the most deeply-rooted identity of the Cuban. And although the birthplace of the rumba is the solar, its contagious rhythm and dance transcended the poor stages of the marginal neighborhoods and conquered the tracks of important nightclubs and theaters throughout the country.

As time progressed, it developed, acquiring greater musical representatives and finally reaching society. This style managed to climb into Cuban culture until it became an intangible cultural heritage of humanity, declared this way by UNESCO in 2016.

Antiguamente la rumba cubana era un baile de la clase más humilde, principalmente de negros y mulatos que vivían en los solares habaneros. Conforme fue avanzando el tiempo, fue desarrollándose, adquiriendo mayores representantes musicales y logrando calar finalmente en la sociedad. Este estilo logró treparse en la cultura cubana hasta convertirse en patrimonio cultural inmaterial de la humanidad, declarado así por la Unesco en 2016.

A través de los cantos, satirizaban a un gobernante banal y sus letras se convertían en una especie de crónica de la vida cotidiana, del amor, de las creencias religiosas…

¿Y cómo no hablar del lenguaje? Popular, sencillo, con algunos términos yorubas o abakuá e impregnados de doble sentido en muchas ocasiones.
