Tras la suspensión de los vuelos de la aerolínea oficial Cubana de Aviación hacia Ciudad de México y Cancún, la empresa mexicana Interjet multiplicó sus frecuencias hacia la Isla. La firma incrementó desde este lunes sus vuelos a siete, con salidas diarias desde Mérida, capital del estado de Yucatán, hacia La Habana, informó el sitio Travel Trade Caribbean.

Esa ruta había sido inaugurada en 2016, con el propósito de contribuir a impulsar la conectividad de México con Cuba, especialmente con La Habana, hacia donde Interjet realiza operaciones también desde la Ciudad de México, Cancún y Monterrey.

Los vuelos hacia destinos como Ciudad de México y Cancún son muy utilizados por los cubanos que realizan turismo de compras. También esos viajes han permitido a cientos de emigrantes acceder a la frontera norte del país para intentar ser aceptados en los EEUU.

Interjet toma ventaja de la suspensión de la mayoría de los vuelos de Cubana de Aviación al exterior. La pasada semana, la aerolínea anunció la cancelación de sus salidas con destino a Santo Domingo, México, Cancún, Caracas, Puerto Príncipe, Fort de France y Point de Pitre, debido a que las empresas que les arrendaban aeronaves para cubrir tales recorridos dieron por concluidos sus contratos.

Cubana calculó que, con ello, en lo que queda de año dejará de transportar 40.000 pasajeros y de ingresar diez millones de pesos en moneda libremente convertible. Arsenio Arocha Elias-Moisés, director adjunto de la aerolínea, se quejó de que estas cifras representan “un impacto económico para la empresa”, en crisis desde hace décadas. Atribuyó esta última situación a las nuevas medidas económicas anunciadas por el Gobierno de EEUU el pasado 18 de octubre y que deniegan el otorgamiento de licencias para el arrendamiento de aeronaves a aerolíneas estatales cubanas.

Por su parte, Interjet atiende a más de 13 millones de pasajeros cada año en rutas en México, Estados Unidos, Canadá, Centro y Sudamérica, con un total de 52 destinos en nueve países.

Desde el inicio de sus operaciones en 2005 y hasta 2018, transportó cerca de 91 millones de viajeros. Para este año se propone mantener un crecimiento de doble dígito.

MEXICAN COMPANY ‘INTERJET’ INCREASES TO SEVEN ITS FLIGHTS YUCATAN-HAVANA.
