La actriz española Penélope Cruz está en Cuba para continuar con el rodaje de la película Wasp Network (Red Avispa), del director francés Olivier Assayas, que tendrá su estreno este año.

De acuerdo con la agencia oficial Prensa Latina, Cruz llegó la víspera a la ciudad de La Habana acompañada por su esposo y compañero de escenas, Javier Bardem, aunque no ofrece detalles sobre su tiempo de permanencia.

Su llegada coincide con la de los actores estadounidense Susan Sarandon, Owen Wilson y Shailene Woodle, quienes por estos días recorrieron el centro histórico y lugares insignes de la capital de la Isla, como el bulevar de San Rafael y la Fábrica de Arte Cubano.

Antes de esta visita, Penélope estuvo en La Habana durante el mes de febrero junto al mexicano Gael García Bernal y la cubana Ana de Armas, según confirmó en esa ocasión el equipo encargado de tramitar su viaje y hospedaje.

El nuevo trabajo de la ganadora de un Óscar a Mejor actriz de reparto en 2008 por Vicky Cristina Barcelona, refiere una versión de la historia de los cinco espías cubanos encarcelados en Estados Unidos.

A inicios de mes, el actor cubano René de la Cruz compartió fotos del rodaje en su perfil de Facebook, donde comentó que “han sido días tremendos, pero cada día mejor”.

La película comenzó a filmarse en Varadero, y también se rodará en diversas locaciones de La Habana y otras regiones de la Isla.

Inspirado en el libro Los últimos soldados de la guerra fría, del brasileño Fernando Morais, el filme cuenta con un elenco de actores internacionales destacado. Entre ellos, además de Cruz y Bardem, el mexicano Gael García Bernal, el venezolano Édgar Ramírez, el brasileño Wagner Moura, el argentino Leonardo Sbaraglia y la cubana Ana de Armas.

En la cinta también intervienen los actores cubanos René de la Cruz, Iris Pérez y Omar Alí, junto a un extenso equipo de producción de la Isla.

Olivier Assayas (París, 1955) tiene una extensa obra cinematográfica, con más de 20 títulos, y ha sido integrante del jurado del prestigioso Festival de Cannes.

Entre sus trabajos más reconocidos se cuentan Las horas del verano, premiada por la crítica en Estados Unidos; Something in the air, laureada por su guion en el Festival Internacional de Venecia; Personal Shopper, premio al mejor director en Cannes; y la miniserie Carlos.
