Un alto diplomático cubano rechazó el miércoles la amenaza de Donald Trump de dar marcha atrás en el deshielo en las relaciones con Cuba a menos que el gobierno de la isla cumpla con las exigencias del candidato presidencial republicano.
Trump dijo en Miami este mes que, de ganar la presidencia, cancelaría las órdenes ejecutivas del presidente Barack Obama que reducen las restricciones del embargo comercial estadounidense sobre la isla a menos que el gobierno de La Habana cumpla varias exigencias, entre ellas la “libertad religiosa y política para el pueblo cubano y la liberación de los presos políticos”.

El diplomático cubano elogió la nominación que hizo Obama de Jeffry DeLaurentis, actual encargado de negocios en la embajada estadounidense en La Habana, como nuevo embajador de Washington en Cuba, el primero en más de 50 años.
“Es una decisión consecuente con los compromisos que ambos países asumimos, y además el interés de que Estados Unidos y su misión diplomática estén representados al máximo nivel posible”, afirmó. “Por tanto, nosotros le damos la bienvenida a esa nominación”.
Machín dijo que el gobierno cubano cree que el mandatario estadounidense permitirá más exportaciones estadounidenses a la isla y más ventas de bienes cubanos a Estados Unidos, y que autorizará inversiones estadounidenses en el país caribeño más allá de una excepción para compañías de telecomunicaciones forjada al principio del proceso.
Dijo también que Cuba sigue frustrada por la falta de disposición de los bancos para tratar con la isla, en especial en transacciones de dólares que estuvieron prohibidas durante largo tiempo por el embargo estadounidense, y restricciones relacionadas.
