The Republican candidate for the U.S. Presidency, Donald Trump, said today that the United States should stop from Cuba to press for compensation for the damage arising from the trade embargo imposed by Washington on the island. In interview with the daily of Florida The Miami Herald, Trump said that any agreement with the Government of the island must specify that Cuba not can present within two years a demand by three thousand millions of dollars to United States by damage. El candidato republicano a la presidencia estadunidense, Donald Trump, dijo hoy que Estados Unidos debería impedir que Cuba presione por una compensación ante los daños derivados del embargo comercial impuesto por Washington a la isla. En entrevista con el diario de Florida The Miami Herald, Trump dijo que cualquier acuerdo con el gobierno de la isla debe especificar que Cuba no puede presentar dentro de dos años una demanda por tres mil millones de dólares a Estados Unidos por daños. Esa postura seguramente también afectaría los esfuerzos de Estados Unidos, encabezados por los cubano-estadunidenses, para que Cuba pague compensaciones por los negocios confiscados bajo la Revolución cubana.

Trump, quien visitó este jueves Miami Beach, dijo que planea regresar a Miami en las próximas semanas, a fin de reunirse con los cubano-estadunidenses para formular una política hacia La Habana. En su visita, se negó a hablar sobre la ley de pies secos/pies mojados, que permite a los migrantes cubanos que tocan suelo estadunidense permanecer en el país.

En ocasiones anteriores, el candidato republicano ha criticado la Ley de Ajuste Cubano, que facilita a los migrantes provenientes de la isla obtener la residencia y luego la ciudadanía.

Agregó que presionaría para que los estadounidenses acusados de terrorismo sean juzgados en tribunales militares en la base naval que Washington tiene en Guantánamo, en territorio cubano. Ello tendría que ser aprobado por el Congreso estadunidense, pues ahora es ilegal que un tribunal militar juzgue a un civil.

Sobre el cambio climático, que se prevé afecte a Miami Beach por el aumento en el nivel del mar, Trump reiteró sus dudas de que la situación sea obra del hombre, pese a estudios científicos que lo comprueban. Negó de igual forma que el impacto del cambio climático “sea devastador”, y consideró que por las políticas de mitigación del calentamiento global “sufren los negocios”.
