El gobierno les paga a los extranjeros entre 4.000 y 7.000 CUC por labores de plomería, electricidad y albañilería, según dijeron ellos mismos a medios informativos.

Obreros hindúes, españoles y africanos trabajan en la construcción de un hotel perteneciente a la corporación militar Gaviota S. A, en la Manzana de Gómez, en La Habana, reveló el periodista independiente Mario Hechavarría en el programa Cuba al Día, de Radio Martí, transmitido el pasado 28 de julio.

El gobierno les paga a los obreros extranjeros entre 4.000 y 7.000 CUC por labores de plomería, electricidad y albañilería, según dijeron ellos mismos al reportero.

Destaca Reuters que es la primera vez que una empresa deja de lado a los obreros estatales cubanos para emplear masivamente a extranjeros, y advierte que el hecho, que rompe el tabú en el país de gobierno comunista sobre la contratación de mano de obra extranjera, fue confirmado por un portavoz de la compañía.

“Son muchos los extranjeros que trabajan en la Manzana de Gómez, mientras que por la parte cubana la mayoría de los jóvenes que trabajan en obras de la corporación Gaviota son reclutas del servicio militar”, hecho que llama la atención de Hechavarría.

“En el hotel Saratoga, en la Habana Vieja, conversé en junio pasado con unos albañiles españoles que trabajaban en la construcción de las columnas, y cuando pregunté por qué no contrataron a los nacionales me dijeron que sale más rentable traerlos de otro país y pagarle en divisas que contratar los nuestros”, dijo.

A la información aportada por el reportero a Martí Noticias, se suma la publicada este jueves por la agencia Reuters sobre la contratación de 200 ciudadanos de la India para trabajar en un hotel que construye en Cuba el grupo francés Bouygues.

Bouygues ya tiene contratados a 200 trabajadores indios en Cuba y los planes son traer más en los próximos meses, comentaron a la agencia diplomáticos conocedores de la situación y un empleado de la compañía en La Habana que prefirió el anonimato.

Según Reuters las razones por las que Bouygues busca mano de obra fuera de Cuba es porque los trabajadores en la isla están optando por brindar sus servicios en el sector privado, donde pueden ganar mucho más que si lo hacen para el Estado.

“Es cierto que el grupo está trayendo trabajadores de la India formados en diferentes partes donde opera Bouygues (…) en todo el mundo”, dijo un portavoz de la compañía constructora desde su oficina en París.

En una investigación, el periodista independiente, Steve Maikel Pardo, quien trabajó años atrás como especialista en Construcción Civil en la Oficina del Historiador de La Habana pudo constatar que hay atraso en las obras de construcción porque a los obreros cubanos, que eran contratados a través de la empresa estatal, no les estaban pagando, y “al parecer la compañía francesa los trae para garantizar la culminación de la obra”.

Pardo dijo que durante los años que trabajó en la Oficina del Historiador de la Ciudad nunca ocurrieron situaciones de ese tipo.

“Se está gestando una forma de apartheid de los trabajadores”, enfatizó el economista Jorge Sanguinetty, .

La sindicalista independiente cubana María Elena Mir dijo “que al quedarse el gobierno con una buen porciento del salario “se tienen que sentir muy decepcionados”.

Obreros extranjeros, “felices” en Cuba

La Agencia Reuters contactó con los obreros que están trabajando en la Manzana de Gómez para indagar sobre la estancia en la isla, y las características del trabajo que realizan.

Varias decenas de obreros especializados, que exhibian trajes de color naranja, dijeron que estaban felices de haber permanecido en Cuba durante al menos un año.

Los trabajadores de la India consultados dijeron que recibían salarios de acuerdo a sus habilidades, pero no revelaron cuánto.

“Hasta el momento, la mayor queja ha sido que quieren algo de comida india y un cocinero está en camino”, dijo la fuente de Bouygues.
