With a brilliant performance in the just concluded World Cup volleyball, Cuba’s Osmany Juantorena, naturalized Italian, was a key player for his team achieved a place in the Olympics in Rio.

Con una actuación brillante en la recién concluida Copa Mundial de Voleibol, el cubano Osmany Juantorena, nacionalizado italiano, fue pieza clave para que su equipo lograra un cupo en las Olimpiadas de Río.
Juantorena brilló en el partido final, donde Italia logró derrotar a Polonia 3 set por 1, con marcadores de 26-24, 22-25, 25-22 y 25-19. El cubano fue el pilar ofensivo de su equipo y máximo anotador con 25 puntos.
La victoria le permitió a Italia quedarse con uno de los boletos en disputa en esta Copa Mundial, al terminar segunda, por detrás del campeón Estados Unidos. En el evento, Juantorena fue elegido mejor outsider y formó parte de la selección ideal.
Este torneo fue el debut por lo grande de Osmany Juantorena con el uniforme italiano, luego de haberse nacionalizado desde 2010 y un largo tiempo de espera por el permiso de la FIVB para jugar con su nuevo país. Por su parte, con la selección nacional cubana obtuvo su mejor resultado en la Liga Mundial de 2005, cuando obtuvo un bronce, además de una plata panamericana en 2003.
El santiaguero también ha obtenido excelentes resultados jugando con el club italiano Trentino y con el turco Halkbank. Con el Trentino ganó dos veces la Liga, tres Copas y una vez la Supercopa de Italia, mientras con el Halkbank obtuvo una Liga, dos Copas y dos Supercopas.
En cuanto a los torneos internacionales de clubes, ha ganado dos veces la Champions League y cuatro veces la Copa Mundial de Clubes, donde ha sido elegido MVP en tres ocasiones.
