The singer Silvio Rodriguez, one of the most important figures of Cuban intellectuals, received on Wednesday the recognition of a non-governmental research center that supports political pluralism on the island.
Rodriguez accepted the group “Possible Cuba” to wish him and his studio, an award for his “patriotism” and the value of his “Never Ending Tour”, a series of street concerts that included musician’s poorest neighborhoods and prisons the island during the past five years.
In addition to a bouquet of white flowers and a framed picture of Monsignor Carlos Manuel de Cespedes – a priest and intellectual who refused to leave Cuba after the revolution despite belonging to one of the most aristocratic families of the island and through the religious-discrimination, the group stated its position on the reality of the Caribbean nation.
“We intend to accompany the current process of change of the imaginary and social dynamics … we want to contribute to the joint effort of searching and finding the best ways to unleash responsibly, creatively the potential,” he said in a message read Possible Cuba coordinator, Roberto Veiga, in a small ceremony.
“We give space to the diversity of ideas, including political pluralism,” Veiga said in his letter.
The prize is unusual on the island, where all studies and academic centers are linked in some way to the government and the Communist Party.
Possible Cuba, located on the island itself and not abroad, was founded last year after Lenier González Veiga and abandon the Lay Space magazine of the Catholic Church, where they had taken refuge for academic years who favored but also against government policies.
Rodriguez, an ardent supporter of the Cuban revolution whose dreams spent much of his poetic and musical, was pleased with the recognition.
“For me it is natural for this to happen (to receive this award), for me it is natural that society evolves,” he told reporters.
.. “I hope Capitalism do not come to Cuba,” said the author of ‘Hope’ and ‘Cita con Angeles’, although he acknowledged that one of the things that socialism failed to resolve until now was “the economic model”.

El trovador Silvio Rodríguez, una de las figuras más importantes de la intelectualidad cubana, recibió el miércoles un reconocimiento de un centro de estudios no gubernamental que apoya el pluralismo político en la isla.
Rodríguez aceptó del grupo “Cuba Posible”, para él y su estudio Ojalá, un premio por su “patriotismo” y el valor de su “Gira Interminable”, una serie de conciertos callejeros del músico que incluyó los barrios más pobres y las cárceles de la isla durante los últimos cinco años.
Además de un ramo de flores blancas y un cuadro con la imagen de monseñor Carlos Manuel de Céspedes — un sacerdote e intelectual que se negó a irse de Cuba tras la revolución a pesar de pertenecer a una de las familias más aristocráticas de la isla y en medio de la discriminación religiosa-, el grupo hizo expresa su posición ante la realidad de la nación caribeña.
“Pretendemos acompañar el actual proceso de cambios de los imaginarios y las dinámicas sociales… deseamos contribuir al esfuerzo mancomunado de buscar y encontrar las mejores formas para desatar de manera responsable, de manera creativa las potencialidades”, se expresó en un mensaje leído del coordinador de Cuba Posible, Roberto Veiga, en la pequeña ceremonia.
“Damos espacio a la diversidad de ideas, incluso a la pluralidad política”, agregó Veiga en su misiva.
El premio es inusual en la isla, donde todos los centros de estudios y académicos están vinculados de alguna forma al gobierno y el Partido Comunista.
Cuba Posible, con sede en la propia isla y no en el extranjero, se fundó el año pasado luego de que Veiga y Lenier González abandonaran la revista Espacio Laical, de la Iglesia Católica, donde se habían refugiado por años académicos que estaban a favor pero también en contra de las políticas de gobierno.
Rodríguez, un ferviente defensor de la revolución cubana a cuyos sueños destinó mucha de su obra poética y musical, se mostró satisfecho con el reconocimiento.
“Para mí es natural que esto suceda (recibir esta distinción), para mí es natural que la sociedad evolucione”, dijo a periodistas.
..”Espero que no venga el capitalismo para Cuba”, comentó el autor de Ojalá y Cita con Ángeles, aunque reconoció que una de las cosas que el socialismo no supo resolver hasta ahora fue “su esquema económico”.
