The US company Boost Mobile, which is owned by Sprint, announced Thursday the launch of a new packet telephony users residing in Miami which includes 15 minutes of free calls to Cuba every month and unlimited text messaging calls. The service will have a monthly price of between 50 and 60 dollars.
The two types of package, which also includes unlimited calls and messages on US soil texts differ in the size of the data rate offered (5 or High Speed 10GB per month).
This offer is in addition to the currently available packages of 12 and 35 minutes per month of calls to the island for a price respectively 10 and $ 20 and will be in effect only for a limited period of time at the point of sale of the company in the Miami area.
Boost Mobile Sprint belongs to the company and specializes in prepaid telecommunications services.
“Following the recent opening toward Cuba, wanted to join promotion with a way to compensate for Cuban-Americans,” said Dow Draper, president of Sprint Prepaid.
The firm has also announced that it will donate $ 10,000 to the nonprofit organization Roots of Hope, dedicated to the empowerment of Cuban youth. The funds will go to programs like Tech4Cuba, offering mobile phones, tablets and flash drives to residents on the island.
A source close to the company, who requested anonymity, said that they would “have a similar service for Cubans on the island.” A plan with relatives in Cuba and the United States to share the minutes, the balance and data from one account.
Although currently “the idea is to open more possibilities to family and friends in the US to connect and communicate with people on the island,” he said.
The Boost Mobile company would also be willing to sign agreements with Cubacel in the future to narrow those options.

TELEFONICA DE EEUU LANZA PAQUETE CON LLAMADAS GRATUITAS A CUBA.
La compañía estadounidense Boost Mobile, que es propiedad de Sprint, ha anunciado este jueves el lanzamiento de un nuevo paquete de telefonía para usuarios residentes en Miami que incluye 15 minutos de llamadas gratuitas a Cuba cada mes y mensajes de texto ilimitados. El servicio tendrá un precio mensual de entre 50 y 60 dólares.
Los dos tipos de paquete, que incluyen también llamadas y mensajes de textos ilimitados en territorio estadounidense, difieren en el tamaño de la tarifa de datos que ofrecen (5 o 10GB de alta velocidad al mes).
Esta oferta se suma a los paquetes actualmente disponibles de 12 y 35 minutos mensuales de llamadas a la Isla por un precio, respectivamente, de 10 y 20 dólares y estará en vigor solo durante un limitado período de tiempo en los puntos de venta de la compañía en el área de Miami.
Boost Mobile pertenece a la compañía Sprint y se especializa en servicios de telecomunicaciones prepagos.
“Tras la reciente apertura hacia Cuba, queríamos unir la promoción con una manera de compensar a los cubanos-americanos”, asegura Dow Draper, presidente de Sprint Prepaid.
La firma ha anunciado, además, que donará 10.000 dólares a la organización sin ánimo de lucro Raíces de Esperanza, dedicada al empoderamiento de la juventud cubana. Los fondos se destinarán a programas como Tech4Cuba, que ofrece teléfonos móviles, tabletas y flash drives a los residentes en la Isla.
Una fuente cerca a la empresa, que prefirió el anonimato, aseguró que les gustaría “tener un servicio parecido para cubanos dentro de la isla”. Un plan donde familiares en Cuba y Estados Unidos puedan compartir los minutos, el saldo y los datos de una misma cuenta.
Aunque por el momento “la idea es abrirle más posibilidades a familiares y amistades en EE UU para conectar y comunicar con personas en la isla”, aseguró.
La compañía Boost Mobile estaría también dispuesta a firmar acuerdos con Cubacel en un futuro para concretar esas opciones.
