COLONIA ESPAÑOLA LEONESA EN CUBA RECIBE AYUDA.
La Diputación de León, en España ha contribuido con 37.000 euros en el rescate de las tradiciones de esa región entre los cubanos a través de la Colonia Leonesa en Cuba, integrada por más de 850 socios.
Algunos cubanos leoneses, que suman más de 2000, se benefician de los programas ‘Añoranza’ y ‘Raíces’ que financia la diputación y consisten en pagar el viaje y la estancia en España a miembros de la comunidad leonesa en el exterior.
Añoranza está dirigido a emigrantes leoneses e hijos/as de emigrantes leoneses residentes en Cuba con escasos recursos económicos, con edad igual o superior a 65 años, que no hayan viajado a España en los últimos quince años y tengan familiares en León con los que puedan residir por un periodo aproximado de siete días.
Por su parte, ‘Raíces’ es una iniciativa destinada a los nietos y bisnietos de los leoneses que emigraron a Hispanoamérica que tengan entre los 18 y los 30 años y que nunca han visitado la tierra de sus antecesores. Entre los requisitos para participar en este programa se encuentra el que los jóvenes no hayan viajado con anterioridad a España.
Con motivo del Centenario de la Colonia Leonesa en Cuba su presidente Raúl Parrado viajó a España donde fue recibido el miércoles por el presidente de la Diputación provincial, Marcos Martínez.
El cubano le entregó a Martínez la Medalla de Oro de la entidad, y un libro de condolencias recogidas tras el fallecimiento de Isabel Carrasco, donde se plasma el pésame de más de medio millar de leoneses residentes en Cuba.
El presidente de la Diputación entregó a los cubanos un cuadro conmemorativo de su centenario y del último número publicado en la ‘Colección Breviarios de la Calle del Pez’, editado en julio con motivo del centenario de la Colonia Leonesa en Cuba y que está dedicado a narrar la vida del jesuita leonés Mariano Gutiérrez-Lanza.
Mariano Gutiérrez-Lanza nació en 1865 en Pardavé de Torío y que fue trasladado a Cuba en 1891. Allí, en el Colegio de Belén de La Habana desarrolló una intensa labor como profesor y como meteorólogo en el Observatorio Astronómico, del que llegó a ser el director.
Gutiérrez-Lanza fue miembro de la Academia de Ciencias Médicas, Físicas y Naturales de Cuba y entre sus aciertos está la predicción de huracanes que asolaron la isla de Cuba en la primera mitad del siglo XX.

The Provincial Council of León, Spain has contributed 37,000 euros to rescue the traditions of this region among Cubans through Colonia de Leon in Cuba, consisting of more than 850 partners.

To mark the centenary of the Colonia Leon in Cuba President Raul Parrado traveled to Spain where he was received Wednesday by the chairman of the provincial council, Marcos Martinez.
