PRES. OBAMA PIDE A CASTRO, A TRAVES DE MUJICA, LIBERE A GROSS.
El presidente de Estados Unidos, Barack Obama, ha solicitado a su homólogo cubano, Raúl Castro, que libere a Alan Gross, el contratista estadounidense condenado a 15 años de cárcel en Cuba por introducir equipos de comunicación satelital, a través del presidente uruguayo, José Mujica.
El Gobierno estadounidense ha revelado este viernes que, durante la reunión que Obama y Mujica mantuvieron el pasado mes de mayo en la Casa Blanca, el estadounidense le pidió al uruguayo que pidiera a Castro la liberación de Gross.
“El presidente pidió a Mujica utilizar cualquier oportunidad que pudiera para transmitir este mismo mensaje a Castro”, ha dicho el portavoz del Consejo de Seguridad Nacional de Estados Unidos, Patrick Ventrell.
“Con respecto a Cuba, el presidente ha instado a Mujica a utilizar su considerable credibilidad como líder regional para fomentar las reformas políticas y económicas, señalando que esas medidas serían bien recibidas por Estados Unidos y otros miembros de la comunidad internacional”, ha añadido.
Por otro lado, el semanario uruguayo ‘Búsqueda’ reveló ayer que Mujica se ofreció a Castro para mediar con Estados Unidos con el fin de acabar con el embargo comercial que impuso a Cuba hace más de medio siglo, en la visita que realizó a la isla caribeña el año pasado.
El pasado 12 de mayo, durante el encuentro en Washington, Mujica planteó el tema y, al parecer, Obama le confesó su deseo de llegar a un acuerdo con Cuba. “Me quedan dos años. Este es el momento”, le habría dicho.
El ex guerrillero tupumaro habría aprovechado la cumbre del G77 más China que se celebró entre el 14 y el 15 de junio en la ciudad boliviana de Santa Cruz para trasladar a Castro el mensaje de Obama durante la cena de los jefes de Estado y de Gobierno.
Castro se mostró interesado en la oferta de su par estadounidense, por lo que Mujica salió bastante optimista de Santa Cruz, de acuerdo con fuentes oficiales consultadas por ‘Búsqueda’.

U.S. President Barack Obama has asked his Cuban counterpart Raul Castro to free Alan Gross, the U.S. contractor sentenced to 15 years in prison in Cuba to introduce satellite communications equipment, through President Uruguay, José Mujica.
The U.S. government revealed Friday that, during the meeting that Obama and Mujica held last May in the White House, the U.S. asked the Uruguayan Castro to request the release of Gross.
“The president asked Mujica use any opportunity I could to convey the same message to Castro,” said the spokesman of the Council of National Security of the United States, Patrick Ventrell.
“With regard to Cuba, the president urged Mujica to use its considerable credibility as a regional leader to encourage political and economic reforms, noting that such measures would be welcomed by the United States and other members of the international community,” he added.
Furthermore, the Uruguayan weekly ‘Search’ revealed yesterday that Mujica Castro offered to mediate with U.S. in order to end the trade embargo imposed on Cuba for over half a century, the visit to the island Caribbean last year.
On 12 May, during a meeting in Washington, Mujica raised the issue and apparently, Obama confessed his desire to reach an agreement with Cuba. “I have two years. This is the time”, I would have said.
Former guerrilla tupumaro have taken the G77 plus China summit held between 14 and 15 June in the Bolivian city of Santa Cruz to move Castro Obama’s message during dinner of Heads of State and Government.
Castro was interested in offering its U.S. counterpart, so it went pretty optimistic Mujica Santa Cruz, according to official sources consulted by ‘search’.
