LOBBY ANTI-EMBARGO pide en Miami una ‘relación normal’ entre Washington y La Habana
Diversas organizaciones reunidas este sábado en Miami para analizar “los cambios importantes” ocurridos en los últimos años entre EEUU y Cuba abogaron por la supresión del embargo económico, con el fin de potenciar el comercio bilateral y restablecer una “relación normal” entre ambos países.
Arturo López-Levy, directivo de la entidad procastrista Cuban Americans for Engagement (CAFE), organizadores del encuentro, aseguró a EFE que “una mayoría de cubanos residentes en Estados Unidos se opone a la política de embargo y aboga por políticas de diálogo e intercambio con Cuba”.
En palabras de López-Levy, con el embargo el gobierno de Estados Unidos está llevando a cabo “una política ilegal” que contraviene el derecho internacional y ha sido condenada por la Asamblea General de Naciones Unidas.
El activista añadió que la medida es “inmoral” y “contraproducente para la promoción de derechos humanos en Cuba, al hacer más difícil los procesos de cambio económico y reforma política” que se podrían producir en el país.
Resaltó que el embargo perjudica a la sociedad cubana, dado que propicia “sanciones en torno a los alimentos, medicinas y dificultades para el estudio”.
Junto a otras entidades cubanoamericanas, entre ellas la Fundación para la normalización de las relaciones entre EEUU y Cuba (Fornorm) y Generación Cambio Cubano, la organización CAFE celebró una conferencia para abordar las relaciones entre ambas naciones en la segunda administración de Obama.
Durante la jornada, López-Levy instó al ejecutivo de Estados Unidos a retirar a Cuba de la lista de países terroristas, a la vez que cuestionó que la Isla sea vista como “una amenaza a la seguridad” en vista de la reforma económica que viene aplicando el Gobierno cubano.
“Si queremos que mejoren los derechos humanos en Cuba tenemos que hacer un análisis realista. Y un análisis realista dice que Cuba no es país terrorista, es un país en cambio. Y hay que tener una política apropiada para ese proceso”, resaltó.
Para Cuban Americans for Engagement, la supresión del embargo “desactivaría muchas de las preocupaciones y escepticismos que hay en torno a una relación normal con Estados Unidos”.
Hugo Cancio, un cubano que emigró a Estados Unidos hace 33 años, considera que “los cubanos tenemos que organizarnos para buscar los caminos que nos lleven a la reconciliación nacional” y fomentar así el diálogo entre “el país natal y el país adoptivo”.
Cancio, que dirige la fundación cubanoamericana Generación Cambio Cubano y edita la revista OnCuba, remarcó que las políticas estadounidenses “afectan” mayormente “al cubano de a pie” y no al gobierno de Raúl Castro, por lo que “hay que fomentar un cambio de mentalidad” para suprimir una “política de más de 50 años que ha sido incoherente”.
Para los representantes de estas organizaciones, si se aboliera el embargo los cambios “no serían inminentes y formaría parte de un proceso” que demandaría el compromiso de toda la sociedad cubana, incluido el exilio.

LOBBY ANTI- EMBARGO LOBBY calls in Miami ‘normal relationship ‘ with Habana Governmet.
Various organizations gathered Saturday in Miami to discuss ” significant changes ” have occurred in recent years between the U.S. and Cuba called for the abolition of the economic embargo , in order to boost bilateral trade and restore a “normal relationship” between the two countries.
Arturo Lopez -Levy , director of the pro-Castro Cuban organization Americans for Engagement ( CAFE) , organizers, told EFE that “a majority of Cubans living in the United States opposes the embargo policy and calls for policy dialogue and exchange with Cuba . ”
In the words of Lopez -Levy , the embargo the U.S. government is conducting ” an illegal policy ” violation of international law and has been condemned by the United Nations General Assembly .
The activist added that the measure is ” immoral” and ” counterproductive to the promotion of human rights in Cuba , to make the processes of economic and political reform more difficult ” that might occur in the country.
He stressed that the embargo hurts the Cuban society , as conducive ” sanctions around food, medicine and difficulties in the study .”
Together with other Cuban-American organizations, including the Foundation for the normalization of relations between the U.S. and Cuba ( FORNORM ) and Generation Cuban Change , CAFE organization held a conference to address the relations between the two nations in the second Obama administration.
During the day , Lopez -Levy executive urged the United States to remove Cuba from the list of terrorist countries , while questioned Island is seen as a ” security threat ” in view of the economic reform is applying the Cuban government.
“If we want to improve human rights in Cuba we have to do a realistic analysis . Realistic analysis and said that Cuba is a terrorist country, is a country in change. And you have to have an appropriate policy for that process,” he stressed.
For Cuban Americans for Engagement, embargo lift ” defuse many of the concerns and skepticism that there is around a normal relationship with the United States.”
Hugo Cancio, a Cuban who immigrated to the United States 33 years ago , believes that ” Cubans have to organize to seek the ways that lead to national reconciliation ” and so promote dialogue between ” native and adopted country .”
Cancio , who heads the foundation Cuban Cubano Generation Change and edits the magazine OnCuba remarked that U.S. policies “affect ” mostly ” the average Cuban ” and not the government of Raul Castro , so that “we must encourage a change of mentality ” to remove a” policy of over 50 years has been inconsistent . ”
