El video del arresto del estelar pelotero cubano Yasiel Puig por conducir a exceso de velocidad en una carretera de la Florida, inundó este martes las redes sociales y los principales espacios periodísticos del sur de la Florida.
Las imágenes entregadas por la Patrulla de Carreteras de Florida (FHP) muestran los pormenores de la detención de Puig en la autopista Alligator Alley, a la altura del condado de Collier, el pasado 28 de diciembre.
El Mercedez Benz blanco que conducia Puig registró 110 y por momentos 112 millas por horas en una carretera cuyo límite de velocidad es 70 mph.

“Señor, por favor, se lo pido de favor, por lo que más usted quiera”, le ruega insistentemente Puig al patrullero que detiene el vehículo, donde viajaban otros tres familiares del pelotero.
Pero el agente del orden no escuchó su reclamo y optó por esposarlo y llevarlo bajo arresto a una depedencia policial del condado. No anduvo con paños tibios y le habló incluso en términos muy duros: “Usted ha puesto en riesgo la vida de personas sin ninguna razón… Ni siquiera tiene la compasión de proteger la vida de su mamá”.
El policía le pregunta entonces: “¿Es que no le importa?”
“Sí me importa, lo siento, pero se le pido por favor… por lo que más usted quiera”, repite Puig, quien es introducido en la patrulla tras ser esposado.
Palabras del primo, llanto de la madre
En el video, se escucha también a un primo de Puig tratando de evitar la detención argumentado que “él juega para los Dodgers de Los Angeles”.
El primo sale luego del Mercedes Benz en medio del proceso de arresto y provoca la ira del patrullero, que le ordena regresar a su asiento. Por la ley, cuando un auto es detenido, tanto el chofer como los pasajeros deben permanecer dentro del mismo hasta que la autoridad le ordene abandonarlo.
El propio Puig le alerta: “Primo, vuelve al auto”.
Al final las imágenes muestran a la madre de Puig llorando inconsolablemente por la detención de su hijo.
Puig, de 23 años, fue liberado horas después del arresto tras pagar una fianza de $500 dólares. La organicación de los Dodgers emitió un comunicado lamentando el comportamiento del jugador.
“Este es un tema muy serio y vamos a seguir trabajando para educarlo en la necesidad de esforzarse para desarrollar aún más su crecimiento fuera del terreno y como miembro de esta comunidad”, dijo el comunicado de la dirección de los Dodgers.
