EMERGENCIA: FALTA DE LLUVIAS reduce agua embalsada un 57 por ciento.

La falta de lluvias en los últimos tres meses en varias regiones de Cuba ha provocado que los embalses se encuentren al 57 por ciento de su capacidad total, según un informe del Instituto Nacional de Recursos Hidráulicos (INRH) divulgado hoy por la televisión estatal.

Actualmente los embalses del país almacenan 5.253 millones de metros cúbicos de agua, lo que representa 522 millones de metros cúbicos menos en comparación con los volúmenes acumulados en igual etapa del año 2013, indicó el reporte.

La situación más crítica se registra en las provincias orientales de Las Tunas, Granma y Santiago de Cuba, señaló el director de uso racional del agua del INRH, Abel Fernández.

“El país ha ido tomando un grupo de medidas encaminadas fundamentalmente a restringir los horarios del suministro del agua en los lugares más afectados limitando y haciendo controles a los grandes consumidores”, resaltó el especialista.

El reportaje citó que el más reciente informe sobre la disponibilidad de agua en la isla indicó que los embalses de las provincias de La Habana, Matanzas, Ciego de Ávila, Camagüey y el municipio Isla de la Juventud están llenos al 50 por ciento de su capacidad.

Además señaló que ante la posibilidad de que se extienda el período de sequía, fenómeno que los especialistas asocian al cambio climático, el manejo y uso racional del agua disponible es “la primera acción” para asegurar ese vital servicio.
