Since the ring Racetrack Marianao Johnson dominated the early rounds of meeting agreed to 45. That seems to bother the punters , especially the promoter Curley , who approached the corner of the champion in the tenth round to remind the agreement. Curley left , but in round 25 , Lucille received the agreed amount and made a sign to Johnson with the eye. This ordered the captured and also through gestures , to leave the room . As stated in his memoirs that his wife did not want to see him beaten and on the floor.

Johnson waited one more round on 26 , and left a nasty blow to penetrate Willard. He fell to the floor and had the bad luck of the afternoon sun habanera incidiera directly into his eyes. This led him to cover his face with his gloves . No boxer knocked out, and Johnson was supposed to be , could have performed that gesture . The photographers captured the moment and for many this was the clearest sign of the trap.

Johnson continued fighting, but age catches up with him. He fought professionally until 1938 at age 60 when he lost 7 of his last 9 games , losing his last fight to Walter Price by a TKO in the seventh assault . He also gave what was known as the fight “cellar” , where fighting , unadvertised , private audiences were spared , usually in basements or unrecognized places. There are existing photographs of one of these fights.
