El bailarín cubano Carlos Acosta y el ginecólogo que ayudó a traer al mundo al hijo del príncipe Guillermo y la princesa Catalina fueron honorados por la reina Isabel, en su tradicional lista de Año Nuevo publicada este martes, reporta la AFP.
El ginecólogo Marcus Setchell, de 70 años, retrasó su jubilación para atender el nacimiento en julio del príncipe Jorge, tercero en la línea de sucesión al trono de Inglaterra.
El médico tendrá tratamiento de “sir”, tras haber sido hecho Caballero Comendador (Knight Commander), la segunda mayor distinción real.
Por su parte Carlos Acosta, fue distinguido como Comendador de la Excelentísima Orden del Imperio Británico (CBE).
El cubano dijo que fue “una gran sorpresa”, y que se siente “un privilegiado” por haber recibido este honor.
El bailarín actúa con regularidad desde hace años con el Royal Ballet en Londres, y ha incursionado en la coreografía, la literatura y el cine.
Igualmente fueron honoradas la cantante de ópera Katherine Jenkins, el director de orquesta británico Simon Rattle, al frente de la Filarmónica de Berlín, y la veterana actriz Angela Lansbury, de 88 años, conocida por su papel de detective amateur en la serie de televisión Se ha escrito un crimen.
En total fueron honoradas 1.195 personas, y por primera vez desde la creación de la Orden del Imperio Británico, en 1917, hay más mujeres (51%) que hombres.
