TORONTO/CARACAS- El secretario de Estado de Estados Unidos, Marco Rubio, afirmó este miércoles que las fuerzas militares de su país tienen todo el derecho a operar en “su hemisferio” y que Europa no es quien para determinar la legalidad de las operaciones contra las lanchas en el Caribe supuestamente cargadas con drogas.
Rubio también afirmó que durante la reunión de ministros de Exteriores del G7, que concluyó este miércoles en la localidad canadiense de Niagara-on-the-Lake, no se trató la legalidad de los ataques de su país contra embarcaciones en el Caribe y en los que han muerto decenas de personas.
En declaraciones a los medios de comunicación, Rubio aseguró que en ningún momento durante la reunión de ministros de Exteriores del G7 se trató el tema de los ataques contra las embarcaciones en el Caribe y que ningún país le planteó las acciones de Washington.
“Nadie lo discutió conmigo. Nadie en la reunión lo discutió, no conmigo. A lo mejor lo han discutido entre ellos pero no se trató en ninguna de las reuniones que tuvimos, ni ayer por la noche ni hoy”, afirmó tajante a la pregunta de si se trataron las operaciones militares en el Caribe.

Posteriormente, cuando un periodista dijo que la jefa de la diplomacia europea, Kaja Kallas, había tratado la legalidad de las operaciones, Rubio negó que Europa pueda interferir en la política estadounidense.
“No creo que la Unión Europea pueda determinar lo que es la ley internacional. Desde luego no pueden determinar como Estados Unidos defiende su seguridad nacional. Estados Unidos está siendo atacado por organizaciones criminales terroristas en nuestro hemisferio y el presidente (Donald Trump) está respondiendo en defensa de nuestro país”, añadió.
“Me parece interesante que todos estos países quieren que les proporcionemos, por ejemplo, misiles Tomahawk con capacidad nuclear para defender Europa, pero cuando EE UU posiciona portaaviones en nuestro hemisferio, donde vivimos, entonces eso es un problema”, dijo
A la reunión, además de los representantes del G7 asistieron la jefa de la diplomacia europea, Kaja Kallas, y los ministros de Exteriores de Ucrania, Brasil, México, Australia, la India, el Reino de Arabia Saudí, Corea del Sur y Sudáfrica, y Rubio mantuvo reuniones bilaterales con varios de sus homólogos.
Durante su rueda de prensa final, la anfitriona de la reunión, la ministra de Exteriores de Canadá, Anita Anand, afirmó que no se habían tratado los ataques estadounidenses a las lanchas.

TORONTO/CARACAS – US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated Wednesday that his country’s military forces have every right to operate in “their hemisphere” and that Europe is not the one to determine the legality of operations against boats in the Caribbean allegedly carrying drugs.
Rubio also stated that the legality of his country’s attacks on vessels in the Caribbean, which have resulted in dozens of deaths, was not discussed during the G7 foreign ministers’ meeting, which concluded Wednesday in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Canada.
In statements to the media, Rubio asserted that the issue of attacks on vessels in the Caribbean was not addressed at any point during the G7 foreign ministers’ meeting and that no country raised Washington’s actions with him.
“No one discussed it with me. No one at the meeting discussed it, not with me. Perhaps they discussed it among themselves, but it wasn’t addressed in any of the meetings we had, neither last night nor today,” he stated firmly when asked if the military operations in the Caribbean were discussed.

Later, when a journalist mentioned that the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, had discussed the legality of the operations, Rubio denied that Europe could interfere in US policy.
“I don’t believe the European Union can determine what international law is. They certainly can’t determine how the United States defends its national security. The United States is being attacked by terrorist criminal organizations in our hemisphere, and the president (Donald Trump) is responding in defense of our country,” he added.
“I find it interesting that all these countries want us to provide them, for example, with nuclear-capable Tomahawk missiles to defend Europe, but when the US positions aircraft carriers in our hemisphere, where we live, then that’s a problem,” he said.
In addition to the G7 representatives, the meeting was attended by the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, and the foreign ministers of Ukraine, Brazil, Mexico, Australia, India, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, and South Africa. Rubio held bilateral meetings with several of his counterparts.
During her closing press conference, the meeting’s host, Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand, stated that the US attacks on the boats had not been discussed.
