Cubana de Aviación could choose to lease aircraft to US airlines that fly to Cuba such as American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Jetblue Airways, Southwest Airlines and United Airlines, among others. I would do it, even with or without repainting of the airplanes, according to the American Journal of Transportation.

They could also choose to contract aircraft that share codes and can operate domestic flights within the Island.

For this, the Cuban Government must request the approval of the United States Department of Transportation, the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the United States Department of Treasury and the Department of Commerce.

These measures would contribute to Cuban aviation security, adds the American Journal of Transportation. It would also favor the frequency of travel and connectivity within the Island. In this way there could be flights Miami-Havana-Santiago; Miami-Havana-Holguín; Fort Lauderdale-Havana-Camagüey and Tampa-La Habana- Cienfuegos.

After the plane crash on May 18, Cuba recalled that due to the US embargo, it can not buy aircraft that have parts manufactured in the USA. The Cubana plane that crashed in Havana had been rented to the Mexican company Damojh (Global Air), which is not subject to inspections by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

In the accident, 112 of the 113 people on board died.
