Cuba y Estados Unidos darán los primeros pasos para el restablecimiento de relaciones diplomáticas durante una reunión en La Habana el próximo 22 de enero,luego de pasar revista el día anterior a los asuntos migratorios entre ambos países, según fuentes oficiales.
En la avanzada, una delegación de influyentes congresistas estadounidense, encabezada por el senador Patrick Leahy, viajaron este sábado a La Habana.
El Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores, de Cuba (MINREX) adelantó el calendario de trabajo de las negociaciones en un comunicado difundido la noche del viernes, en el cual se informó que la delegación cubana estará encabezada por Josefina Vidal, directora general de Estados Unidos del organismo.
“En esta reunión se abordarán los principios y pasos para el restablecimiento de relaciones diplomáticas y la apertura de embajadas en ambos países”, señaló la nota oficial.
AREAS DE COOPERACIÓN MUTUA.
Con posterioridad, ese mismo día, habrá otro intercambio para abordar asuntos bilaterales, incluyendo áreas de cooperación en temas de interés mutuo.
La delegación estadounidense estará encabezada por la secretaria adjunta del Departamento de Estado para Asuntos Hemisféricos, Roberta Jacobson.
Jacobson liderará la misión gubernamental estadounidense de más alto rango que haya vistado la isla desde el rompimiento de relaciones dipomáticas en 1961. Pero no será su primer viaje a Cuba.
La funcionaria integró la delegación estadounidense a las charlas migratorias en el 2011, ocasión en la que visitó al contratista Alan Gross en la cárcel. Pero para esa fecha no ostentaba la posición de subsecretaria de Estado. No obstante, Jacobson sostuvo un encuentro con Vidal en Washington el pasado mayo en medio de las negociaciones secretas entre ambos países.
“El asunto central de esta reunión es establecer formalmente las relaciones diplomáticas, lo que implica tanto a la reapertura de embajadas como otros aspectos de logística, personal, visas y otras cuestiones afines. Lo más importante de todo es asegurar que este proceso funcione”, dijo a CaféFuerte una fuente del Departamento de Estado vinculada a la delegación estadounidense.
VIAJE DEL GOBERNADOR DE NY CUOMO A LA HABANA.
El gobernador del estado de Nueva York, el demócrata Andrew Cuomo, tiene previsto viajar en los próximos meses a Cuba al frente de una misión comercial, informó este sábado el diario The Wall Street Journal.
El periódico, que cita a una fuente vinculada a esos planes, asegura que Cuomo hará el anuncio el miércoles durante su discurso de situación sobre el estado.
De confirmarse, el gobernador de Nueva York se convertiría previsiblemente en uno de los primeros políticos estadounidenses del más alto nivel en viajar a la Isla desde que el Gobierno estadounidense anunció un acercamiento con La Habana.
