El régimen cubano negó visas a congresistas de EEUU que planeaban inspeccionar los aeropuertos de la isla como medidas de seguridad, confirmó Michael McCaul, presidente de la Comisión de Seguridad Interna de la Cámara de Representantes.
La delegación de parlamentarios norteamericanos había anunciado su intención de viajar a la isla para realizar una supervisión sobre la seguridad de bases aéreas de nueve ciudades cubanas pero este fin de semana se les negó las visas.
“En un momento en que la Administración Obama está desplegando la alfombra roja a La Habana, el gobierno cubano se niega a ser abierto y transparente con los representantes del pueblo”, señaló Michael McCaul a través de un comunicado.
El parlamentario explicó que la inspección de las bases aéreas designadas como “último punto de salida” hacia Estados Unidos “es de importancia para la seguridad nacional” del país, consigna El Nuevo Herald.
“Seguimos sin saber si Cuba tiene los escáneres corporales adecuados y los sistemas de detección de explosivos, si se dispone de la tecnología para la detección de pasaportes fraudulentos o cómo son investigados los trabajadores de la aviación, y si se les permitirá a los agentes aéreos federales volar en misiones a Cuba en vuelos comerciales”, apuntó John Katko, presidente de la subcomisión de Seguridad del Transporte, quien también integraba la comisión estadounidense.
“No es suficiente confiar en la palabra del régimen de Castro de que estos aeropuertos son seguros”, agregó el congresista.
Larry Mizell, funcionario de la Administración de la Seguridad del Transporte (TSA, por sus siglas en inglés), aseguró en una audiencia realizada el mes pasado que los siete aeropuertos cubanos que habían sido inspeccionados en mayo “cumplían con los estándares internacionales de la Organización de Aviación Civil Internacional”.

Cuba refused visits to U.S. congressmen who were to inspect airports.
The Cuban regime refused visas to U.S. congressmen who planned to inspect the island as security measures airports, confirmed Michael McCaul, Chairman of the Committee on internal security of the House of representatives.
The delegation of parliamentarians Americans had announced his intention to travel to the island to carry out supervision on the safety of air bases of nine Cuban cities but this weekend were denied visas.
“At a time when the Obama administration is deploying the red carpet to Havana, the Cuban Government refuses to be open and transparent with the representatives of the people,” said Michael McCaul in a press release.
Parliamentarian said that the inspection of the air bases designated as “last point of exit” towards the United States “is of importance to the national security” of the country, left-luggage office El Nuevo Herald.
“We still don’t know if Cuba has the appropriate body scanners and explosives detection systems, if there is technology for the detection of fraudulent passports or how aviation workers are investigated, and if will allow the Federal airline agents fly on missions to Cuba on commercial flights,” said John Katko, Chairman of the Subcommittee on transportation safety who also was a member of the American Commission.
“It is not enough to rely on the word of Castro’s regime that these airports are safe,” added the Congressman.
Larry Mizell, official of the administration of the transport security (TSA), said at a hearing held last month that seven Cuban airports that had been inspected in may “met the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization”.
